What's new

The where did it go wrong versus Australia thread?

Nothing went wrong. Pakistan is an average team and most of the players are average.

They just had a couple of great games and the expectations went through the roof.

Pakistan has only 3 top players - Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen, although the latter needs to improve his death bowling to be ranked among the world’s best fast bowlers.

Everyone else is mediocre.

Okay we get it that Pakistan is an average and mediocre team, you've been repeating the same thing over the course of last 3-4 years. It would be great if you could add some insights on the points where Pakistan lost yesterday's match, they competed well enough but lost some crucial moments.

No deep analysis required. We didn’t get lucky with the toss like we did against India, New Zealand and Afghanistan.

Pakistan got hammered defending against South Africa in the warm-up as well. The luck finally ran out in the semifinal.

Catches win matches. Hasan Ali’s drop was the turning point 20 off 10 would have become 20 of 9 with Cummins the new man on strike. Dropped it plus gave 2 runs and wade didn’t look back. Even a dot 1 and 4 from the next 3 balls would still mean 15 off 6 with Rauf bowling the last over to stoinis and Cummins with pak having the upper hand. T20 is about small margins. Cummins is also capable but it’s hard for a new man to come in and hit from ball 1. This loss also hurt like others semi finals pak has lost in the last decade cause it felt like the world cup trophy was also lost. Could’ve easily had another World Cup in any of these games :/

2011 semi final vs India
2010 semi final vs aus
2021 semi final vs aus
2012 semi final vs SL

Didn’t win toss. Pakistan would have been smashed by India, New Zealand and perhaps even Afghanistan had they batted first.

Salty negative posts return, still bitter your beloved india lost by 10 wickets and were sent home with their tails between their legs. Facts are pakistan won all 3 of those games so quit crying.

You can blame the batting etc all you want, but when your senior pace bowler gets smashed for 15 runs in the 17th over and then proceeds to drop a crucial catch off your best bowler in the very next over, you will have the stuffing knocked out of you as a team.

Hasan Ali threw us out of the WC tonight, no matter how many other reasons anyone tries to point out. He takes that catch, and it’s a different story.

It was simply under utilisation of spin bowlers. I been saying that under these onditions and against these oppositions spin is more effective tool, as Shadab proven. Even Imad was good bar one over where Warner had fun with him. Pakistan should have gone with Nawaz, who should have also been tried in the group games.
Nevertheless despite this miscalculation by Babar great effort by Pakistan and even in this game Pakistan competed hard. Those who are saying OK luck ran out by not winning toss, are saying Australia won today due to luck as they won toss. This is rubbish, Australia won due togoid batting.
.

Babar Azam also missed a trick by not bowling the spinners more. The kind of tournament Hassan has had he didn't need to give him a full quota of 4 overs. Imad and Hafeez both had overs left and couldn't have bowled any worse than Hassan.

The drop catch was critical but by the last two overs Australia were favorites even if the catch had been taken. It would have been extremely hard to defend 24 of two overs on that pitch.

Both Rizwan and Babar played very well and no complaints. But they are similar batsmen who start slow and make it up at the end.

But you are not always going to be able to make it up as babar got out just when he should have taken off.

Pakistan need a pinch hitter to open and Rizwan to come at number 3

Pak have mental block with aus, like Ind have against New-Zealand.The 18th over by Hassan Ali made the difference.stoinis records against spin is poor.50 off 24 balls I thought Pak was to win....

Shahid Afridi on TV:

"First of all, I would like to congratulate both New Zealand and Australia for reaching the Final of the ICC T20 World Cup. I have always said that fielding has a 70-75% contribution in any win. Even Australia shelled two catches during Pakistan's innings so there was an issue with fielding there too. And it happened to Pakistan also when in such a tight situation, the catch was dropped and then those 3 sixes were hit as well - the scenario of the game changed completely due to that"

"I always say that when Pakistan will strengthen their fielding, that is the day Pakistan will win the match"

"I believe we missed a huge opportunity and such chances of success come rarely in our lives - we had 9/10 players who had not played in an ICC T20 World Cup before and in a sense this was the Final for us as I always believed that we would have won against New Zealand"

"I feel that this image of Hassan Ali dropping the catch will be replayed forever"

The commentators mentioned the lack of dew during the match. Despite the better bowling conditions compared to earlier matches, Pakistani bowlers did not bowl well at the death. Australian batsmen were always going to go hard, but the bowlers were sticking to their plan instead of adjusting it. Example: Shaheen Afridi's length and line.
This is where a good tactical captain such as Dhoni or Mahela would have made the difference.

Agreed with this.

There was a laissez fair approach in last four overs by Babar. Hopefully he learns from this experience.

What went wrong was Australia met Pakistan in the year 2021.

Australia defeated Pakistan in the world cup final in the year 1999.

Australia then defeated Pakistan in the WT20 semifinal in the year 2010.

Australia once again defeated Pakistan in the WT20 semifinal in the year 2021.

There is an exact 11 year gap between all these events. Prophecy indicates Pakistan will once again get knocked out by Australia in a world cup in the year 2032. Hopefully Malik can prevent that from happening.

You missed out the World Cup quarter final in 2015

Hasan was off color, if we had Wahab instead of Wasim Jnr.........thanks Mohammed Wasim for costing us the world cup

Yes, let us hope he learns and grows to be a good captain. If he does that, he is a long term captain for Pakistan in all formats.

Ladies and gentlemen; deep analysis - the toss of a coin.

How this guy claims to be a doctor or whatever is beyond me. I guess he got lucky too.

Shaheen should have bowled 3 up front.
