Australia is a great place to have a World Cup. Supposedly weaker teams are taking on and nearly knocking out teams much stronger than them.

And the quality of the cricket played has been exceptional because even these smaller nations are very well prepared.

Kudos to all involved

Fantastic matches in sporting conditions, with a few upsets and hard competitive cricket… have really been enjoying the tournament :)

It is always a tremendous WC until your team does badly. Else you are lying.

from a pure cricket fan perspective, i agree.

as pakistan fan, obviously disappointing to lose two games on last ball, if even one of them had gone Pakistans way things would be much better.

but overall, i do agree, seen some really good cricket, competitive games, upsets, brutal innings (stonins, russow, others), enough in pitches/ground for bowling and batting.

Also, even the qualifying stage was quite good and competitive, who would have thought West Indies will not make it or Namibia beating Sri Lanka, etc.

In the past the matches against non-test playing nations used to be super one sided, but not any more, and especially not in T20 format.

Rain element is a bit of a damper, but sometimes its good also to spice things up in terms of how to manage D/L or some interesting points table scenarios due to tied games.

Yeh, better than the last one where toss decided the match.

I like Australian pitches. They keep the game in balance and give even chance to both sides.

as a general thing, among all countries, i like watching even neutral games in Australia the most.
Good decent sized grounds
Good commentary - back in the day loved Bill Lawry and also Tony Greig and Richie for classics.
Good coverage.
High-quality cricket.
Timing is only issue with T20/ODI but for Tests timing was also good for US.

Maybe because the commentary work was very good for the close games.

I don't think Harsha Bhogle was given enough credit for the stellar commentary in the last 5 overs of ind-pak game.

Batting first/Fielding first no real advantage. But empty stadiums are mhe for some of the matches. ALso shaky camera. It is not very steady at times. commentary is poor from some. Things i liked about is pacy pitches which restrict hacks from getting away

Not really when there are a number of rain outs and empty stands. That upset win of Ireland was purely on luck. 2009 T20 world cup had the best competitive games with houseful cheering (usual England) made for an awesome viewing even for neutral games. 2007 was 2nd most competitive one since it was a new format and had several crunch games, including the epic final.

This Zimbabwe win over Pakistan isn't too big of a surprise as Zimbabwe could at times play good cricket, just like how Ireland escaped a win against the best T20 team England.

How many matches rained off and how many more to come ?

Maybe tomorrow aswell.

What was the issue with 2016 ,2012,2014 ones?

it wasnt luck. Ireland had ENgland by the neck. They had 4 wickets i think before the 10th over, and ENgland were in a terrible situation.

Ireland played good cricket

There have been a number of upsets during the qualifiers and now in the group stages.

The only downsides have been the rain and the lack of fans in the stadium in most matches.

Australia has good stadiums, coverage is top notch but the only issue is the timings. T20 World Cups should only be hosted by countries like India, England, UAE, and South Africa. :inti

Much better than last one where toss decided matches, and pie chuckers and trundlers thrived in slow UAE wickets

How are timings an issue when Sydney is 5.5 hours ahead and England are 4.5 hours behind India?

It's pretty much the same thing.

One thing I have noticed is that bigger ground with true pitches produce better cricket all around. With smaller grounds, defending any score below 200 against decent opponents is virtually impossible which makes the game monotonous. This WC has been so refreshing in that regard. The tournament again proves that batting hacks have no place at the highest level of cricket.

This is an average WC thus far.

The format is the biggest problem IMO, 2 matches in and we're already in NRR territory, plus add in the rain factor! I feel this WC will be hit and miss.

Bring back the round robin format!

The English crowds weren't any better than what Australia has had so far. It just looks better on those hobbit grounds.

It would have been tremendous if not for terrible weather.

It has been a good tournament so far with some upsets which in generally is a good thing however the stadium hasn't been half Full in every match barring the Pakistan vs India game.

Is this not a form of round robin?

Do you mean smaller groups?

In terms of atmosphere, a crowd of 15,000 in a small English ground is always going to be much more engaging than a crowd of similar number in a massive Australian stadium. The stadia in Australia are amazing but for most matches so far have looked and sounded very empty.

But 2019 world cup TV coverage was 10X better than this.

Next WC is in WI + US, guess we will see good crowd as there are many desis in US and can for sure travel to Caribbean for few games. Plus WI always gets good crowds for ENG/ IRE/ AUS matches, probably folks who are vacationing.

Except for timings (early morning start) for sub continent, should be an interesting one.

There will be 20 teams in the competition this time, 5 groups of 4 teams each. 8 will progress to Super 8 and then semis and finals.

Looks interesting ... :)

For me South Africa is always a great place for T20 world cup. Great batting surfaces. Different conditions. Nice enough crowd for all the matches.

This has been a fantastic tournament. Cannot write off any team. 5 upsets so far and I am sure we will a few more.

Another Ireland-Afghan washout. Absolutely terrible so far. So many washouts and people are calling this most exciting world cup (lol) when only two games which has been a surprise are struggling Pakistan losing against Zimbabwe and Ireland getting a lucky rainout win.

As rain is further forecasted in coming days, it could further be a dullfest. Odd exciting games doesn't make a world cup worthwhile tournament, every team needs to earn a point and these rainouts are crushing the excitment. And South African and English grounds are equally exciting places for cricket. People are trying quite hard here to make it sound exciting just because its in 'Australia'.

Turning into a nightmare Pak out was looking forward to game of the tournament (Aus V Eng) called of without a single delivery being bowled !!

I prefer the round robin format too, where everyone plays each other.
I understand that the tournament would be longer but this would be my preference.

Also, the weather and empty stadiums has ruined it for me.

Wash out after wash out.

Tremendous world cup for India perhaps.

Overall, turning out to be a damp squib.

Another 2 games rained off.

I think it's time we scrap the tournament lads and try against next year.

All results null and void.

What do you think?

Is this a troll post, in the aftermath of the Pakistan Zimbabwe game?

Group 1 has been decimated due to rain, how is this a tremendous WC so far?

Not really with so many games washed out due to rain. And stronger teams getting knocked out will only result into reducing interest in rest of the tournament.

From Cricket perspective, one of the best T20 world cups for sure. Rain for sure is playing a spoilsport though.

Marquee match washed out. It is almost like teams that will advance to the next round may need a bit of luck.

Scheudling probably has something to do with World cup Football in which starts on November 20th. Otherwise this world cup could have happened in November/December

Australian pitches are making trundlers look like Marshals and Brett Lees of yesteryears.

Even Pandya, Ngarava are beating the batsmen for pace. Ball is zipping through with good bounce and batsmen could not even touch them.

To be fair, a bowling team like Pakistan got neutralized as the conditions are enabling even ordinary bowlers bowl like Shaheen and Rauf. A huge disadvantage for Pakistan.

If you are a Pakistani, which you claim to be. Why do you enjoy Pakistan loosing?

This is how we all know you are an Indian

He's just a troll. They are only calling it best tourney based on India (umpire) win and Zimbabwe win against Pakistan, like Pakistan has never lost to associate nations before :inzi

It's been a disaster of a world cup so far. Mr Bean of Pakistan is more genuine than these pretenders and trolls :)

Kindly look at this thread again. Every non Pakistani poster has said they have enjoyed this World Cup despite the rain.

Those upset with the World Cup tend to be Pakistani supporters . Quite understandable given the results. But please don't refer to others as pretenders when everyone else has liked the competition.

Yes, particularly because matches with associates or weaker teams have not been one-sided affairs with the underdogs coming on top on quite a few occasions.

it has been a good WC. no toss bias but looks like rain can damage the chances of a few sides, which is a shame.
also expecting the pitches to be a bit more batting friendly (175) as the tournament goes forward, if and when the sun decides to shine.

Both are actually quick. Pandya crossed 140k a few times. Also height plays a huge role here. They extract more bounce even at low speed. Watch out for Marco jansen. Ball will be just kissing the pitch and flying around

Rubbish if England Australia are getting cancelled.

And England got robbed of a victory the other day

What a tournament. Even with rain it’s been a fantastic watch.

First time in my life I’ve sat through an entire Zim Vs BD game- and it was worth the watch

Kudos to zimbos , they have improved a lot in recent years.

Now bdesh also can get to semis if they beat ind/ Pak which is possible 🙂

Best T20 World Cup of all time. Every other game has had some high quality cricket :inti

My prediction:
More upsets incoming, semi final going into super over
And final gets washed away, and we have Joint winners
Anti climax to ultimate world cup ✌️

So many close games.

No toss advantage..

Sporting conditions with 160 as the average score..

This has certainly been a better world Cup than most previous ones.

T20s are good for entertainment and short matches gives us quick results. But otherwise don't really care much about the result. I watch it during the time when my brain sleeps. :inti

England vs Australia, a big match got washed out.
New Zealand vs Australia, one sided affair.
New Zealand vs Sri Lanka, one sided affair.
Australia vs Sri Lanka, one sided affair.

Only India and Pakistan match stood up to promise. Rest all close affairs were mostly between the teams who aren't going to win the tournament, they are just there for spoiling chances of other teams. :inti

It’s not only about close games. It’s also the fact that no one team has run away with the wins, and also the rate of upsets have been higher which makes it more interesting to follow the tournament. Also there’s an equal chance of win be it bat first or bowl first. It feels balanced after a long time

WI getting knocked out.
Zim beating Pak
Ireland beating England
NZ obliterating Australia

It's coming to the stage which always happens in super 6 format tournaments, dead rubber games.

More than half the stage is over and still 10 teams are in the hunt for semis, how is it dead rubbers?

Close games are pretty common in T20s but upsets don't really raise the standard of cricket, it just leads us to a one sided final 4 battle like how Kenya reached to semis in 2003.

WI got knocked out - that's down to their poor cricket imo.
Zim beating Pak - it is a fluke win honestly, Pak would beat them 8 out of 10 times. Remember Zim were on verge of a crushing defeat vs SA so I don't really think they have raised their bar that much.
Ireland beating England - Goes down to technical limitation of D/L. That was England's game easily.
NZ won vs Australia but one sided affair, poor cricket from Aus bowlers.

In my opinion, a tournament can be called as best if there are a lot of competitive games between quality sides( like the top 8) because then anyone of them are capable to win the tournament.

Games like England vs Australia getting washed out just doesn't make for a great tournament in my opinion. The only real positive would be India vs Pakistan game because it did fulfilled all the promise.

Basically the simple way to prove my point here would be that when I saw this thread for the first time, I was a bit shocked as to how come this tournament is best T20 tournament ever with lot of games getting washed out and also top/mid level teams sort of not doing that well.

Now both groups are very open till last match with at least 8 teams still in contention.
One of the best world t20s in this regard.

This has been a wonderful World Cup for me:

1. India and England to make the semifinals
2. Pakistan crashing out in the group stage
3. Pakistan losing to India
4. Kohli producing stellar performances
5. Babar, Rizwan and Rauf getting exposed

Now if only India and England can meet the final, it would be a dream tournament for me. It won’t matter who wins I would be happy either way.

I have been waiting for an India vs England final since 2016. The two best white ball sides since 2015 World Cup. They have failed to cross paths in finals so far but hopefully it will happen this time.

People really have a terrible memory to recall prior world cups if they think this heavily rained influenced world cup is remotely close to several in the past which equally had many exciting games and open contenders till the end. Whenever I see this thread appearing i think of face-palm emoji

Overall this world up continues to be disappointment with rain, DL reduction and non-visible crowd in various games.

Pak-SA game was over few hours ago. You should have been feeling better by now but doesn't look like it

Worse T20 world cup. 2014 was the best I loved the final and the crowed majority locals cheered Lanka on so did I.

Today’s win doesn’t make up for the humiliation of losing to Zimbabwe.
