Both have now proven to not be good enough in the long run and how Misbah ul Haq with his biased tuk tuk defensive minded glasses unfairly backed these two players over other players who if they had been given a greater rope may have turned out to be far versatile players than these two mental midgets.

The experience these two players have accumulated is worth nothing

We all know nothing will happen. The only guy in trouble is Sarfraz.

That's Pak cricket. One change but the same old story. They're lucky that there are tests left till next season.

Azhar was a good investment but a support act at best. Shafiq has been a waste.

The argument that there is no one else on the bench is invalid. Shan Masood has been a revelation. The way he's smoking those short balls is nothing short of incredible. This guy should be part of the ODI team as well. Time to bench Shafiq after the SA series.

Nah Shafiq is the one who was a waste.

Azhar is fine and he should be opening not 1 or 2 down.

Long overdue. How Azhar survived this long in international cricket is a mystery to me, Shafiq doesn't have the mental strength to be successful.

Need to move on from both ASAP

I think Azhar has done pretty well.

He averages around 44 in test cricket which is respectable.

But I think he's failed far too often lately.

Our best test batsmen were dropped at various stages of their careers. Inzi, Moyo, YK come to mind in more recent history.

Our management seems to think both Azhar and Asad are indispensable. I have no idea why. All of the aforementioned players were far better and impactful but had been dropped at one stage or another.

So far neither Azhar nor Asad has had a significant influence on this series or even the last.

As Sarfaraz said test cricket needs experience and these two are the only experienced players in the team. He banks on them and considers them the backbone of the team.

They are not going anywhere.

Azhar should be given another tour (sort of a last chance kind of deal)..Also, should be opening ONLY.

Asad on the other hand..he's already played about 10 tours too many. When are they going to realize how useless this guy is? Only thing he's good for is CAKE TIME..maybe the team management keep him around because of that?

Nope, i’d give Azhar 1 more tour after this, but, Shafiq must be dropped.

Every player in the squad should feel the pressure of being replaced, it’s the only way to get the best out of them.

Asad Shafiq just doesn't have it in him to succeed at the international level. The guy is too meek and submissive. That is why you'll mostly see him score runs in front of empty stadiums (UAE) and in the domestic circuit. Put a little pressure on him and he'll buckle.

It is not entirely his fault though, personalities are inherent and there's not much he can do about it. To be a top athlete, you have to have a thick skin and tough nerves, both of which Asad lacks. Sport is not the right profession for him.
