"This was for the media & for people who are always talking about me behind my back" : Imam-ul-Haq

How many of you watched it? :)))

He thanked all the media and his critics from his heart for always criticizing him saying he found a place in the team because of his Uncle, and said that's what keeps him motivated to do well further.

Who else watched it?

Well done, young man! And particularly, well dished out :))

Quotes :

"It was a very special 100 as coming to SA we had a belief that we have come here to win"

"We have been working very hard since we have come here for almost 2.5 months"

"That message - well my selection and stuff everybody knows that I am a nephew of the Chief Selector"

"So I really wanted to thank the Pakistan media, Pakistani people who really criticized me always - that's why I am standing here as the success of the last 2.5 years because of that"

"This [makes the chirping sign with his hand] was for the media and to the people who are always talking about me behind my back"

"So I really want to thank all the supporting staff especially Grant Flower and Mickey Arthur the way they have supported me since the time I have been in the team"

"They always say we knew you had the ability to perform for your country so just dont worry about anything and just go and perform and I really want to thank all those people"

Haha! Solid stuff! Totally get where he's coming from. Gets undue hate, a lot of which is generated right here on PP.

Unnecessary. Played well . . is playing well . . keep your head down and continue playing well! Let your bat do the talking

Imam takes his batting seriously. But he is no shrinking violet.

You need characters like these in the team for confidence.

Well done!

Brilliant,,,, slow start but managed to get the big one. Loved the way he responded. Clear difference between him and Babar is he knows how to convert 50-60 to big one... Babar needs to learn that art somehow.

We have a really solid prospect in our batting lineup.

One for the future.

At least he works hard, converts his starts to good scores, and has got his basics right.

I'd have a player like him over Fakhar Zaman any day. Fakhar can be much more dangerous than him on his day, but Imam would give my team far more consistent returns.

Him and Babar are the 2 Pak batsmen to look out for in the future. I'll say that Babar is more talented, but Imam has better temperament.

Both Fakhar & Imam are needed for Pak

It's the hacks like Sahibzda Farhaan,Hussain Talat who get overhyped by some fans just because they haven't been given enough chances for the national team

Imagine coming out to play whilst in your head you’re remembering all the hate you recieve from the media and also the enormous amounts of pressure to perform.

Well played Imam, hard work just begins now.

Shan/Imam/Babar thats the top 3 I would try next game. Fakhar needs to go back and work his game out... he is becoming too predictable now.

Imams selection is interesting. He’s never shown an ability to excel at Test or T20 Cricket. He has shown an aptitude for one day cricket but i think he has a lot more to prove. His scoring rate isn’t bad but he shows little to no ability to increase the scoring rate. He offers no six hitting ability.

The problem is we need a player like Fakhar in the team so i dnt think they will drop him.

To be fair, in Pakistani society it is necessary to be very critical because nepotism is rife in the game, and throughout the country as a whole. Only way to prove you aren't in the side because of rishtidari or rishwat is to prove it on the field.

PP haters did a great job by motivating him to prove his worth! :salute

He's been much better than Fakhar since his debut (Zimbabwe series doesn't count). Scored in the Asia cup and in this series while Fakhar has failed with a consistency even Afridi as an opener couldn't match

Oh Forget that, take alook at this

:))) :))) :)))

Perhaps he watched Tyson’s “Alexander” interview for inspiration.

Silly boy, he is digging hole for himself. He thinks this was an innings to response his critics, which tells he is not that smart as I thought - he had Amla's innings few days back for a reference. And, after playing one such innings, if he think he should take a dig at people who raises a valid cause of nepotism, he is calling trouble - even the best batsmen are successful once in every 3.5 innings, Imam is just calling trouble here. Should have at least waited for PAK to win the game and open his mouth at the MoM speech, game is just half done.

he doesn't get undue hate.

Thing is, when he was selected in the team, he wasn't in the pecking order.

On Merit, Fawad deserved a better chance then him.
Ok, we select him odi thats fine.

But then his test selection????

It is a fact that his selection was done on nepotism. If he didnt have Inzamam as an uncle would had he been selected?

Fawad Alam was always ahead in the pecking order no matter what

Rofl how many catches were dropped? How many short bowls he faced? Olivier is not on the scorecard seems he is not playing today which helped the nephew. Did they shielded the 3rd man and kept mid off in the circle. I have'nt watch the match but I'm sure this miracle is due to South African own doing.

The amount of matches he has got, the way he was given debut against 12th ranked Zimbabwe like team, if Khurram Manzoor, Sohaib Maqsood and Usman had the same luck they would've had better averages than mot seniors in the team.

I'll have to watch now and see, but I still feel he was/is not first class standard.

Plenty of boys giving big men interviews. You’ve got a long way to go bud!

Khurram Manzoor did debut against zimbabwe actually, and Sohaib Maqsood played more than one series against them too, why didnt they score even a single 100?

"It was a very special hundred. Coming to South Africa, we believed we could win,"says Imam. "It's been a long tour. My selection and all that stuff.. I am a nephew of the chief selector. To all the people who criticised me over the year, the media and the people, I want to thank them. This has been possible because of them. The support staff has backed me throughout to go out and just perform. I want to thank God and my parents, who always pray for me. without them, it's difficult for me to stand here. it's a good wicket to bat on. They have a good batting line-up and this will be a good game."

Cringe worthy comments. Someone would think that he scored a triple hundred based on what he said.

Be ready to face backlash if you fall now, so better work 2x times harder now.

Don't think anybody will call this a selfish innings like Amla's. Opening batsman scoring a hundred in SA is one for the books. It's the right time to put all the nepotism talk in the garbage. He answered it with his bat and his words. Gutsy kid

For most fans, you are only as good as your last innings, isnt it??

So this might come back to bite his butt

I would wait for SA to bat to know how good your innings was. Big mouth doesnt always help. Have some humility Imam.

I always knew Imam was the one. He will outscore all Pakistani batsmen and by the time he retires his runs will be close to Sachins

How many catches were dropped by the opposition in their debut matches? Comparison should be overall these bit and pieces information to justify a club level player has already damaged our cricket team.

All he needs to do is to pile on the runs. He is young and if he starts to take every critisizm personally and make all these gestures he will have a tough path in the longer run. If he has a bad patch the media will be all over him.

Just let the bat do the talking.

Credit to him for scoring the runs today. Not everytime he will score hundred after striking at nearly 60. He is another azhar, shehzad in the making and the mindset of improving the strike rate at the end of innings will not always work. He will screw the team's momentum the same way the other two did in the past. We have only babar who matches the criteria of a proper modern day batsmen.

amateurish for Imam - should let his batting do the talking. A 100 is great, but this isn't the 1980's where each century was such a great deal

Even if he performs well, that doesn't pardon nepotism. People tend to forget that.

Tag of nepotism won't go away with 1 innings.
He needs minimum 2 lives every time to cross 50.

I would wait for SA to bat to know how good your innings was. Big mouth doesnt always help. Have some humility Imam.

Watch DeQock's innings in stark contrast. A clear gulf in quality

I'm no fan of Imam but a 101(116) will always be a more useful innings than a pretty 33(36).

If he got out early today his SR would have been under 65. He will not score hundred everytime. Thats where the problem is. The inning would look ugly then and hurt the team cause.

He gets a lot of undeserved hate on PP, good on the young man to respond in style. Now critics should let go, let the kid enjoy his cricket without nepotism charges at least till the WC campaign.

He offers no six hitting ability.

lol he hasn’t hit many but the ones he has hit they have stayed hit ..in other words he’s a strong lad who easily clears the ropes when needed & he’ll only get better

.

now you're just clutching at straws mate, pathetic.

Don't think this is the case anymore, Fakhar has been brutally and rightfully exposed as a hack, he will never be the same again, mark my words.

Imam should have been out 53 (73) but was dropped

Lool let’s count when Dhoni should have been out twice in the 3rd odi vs Aus, or the amount of times Kohli got dropped during that tour. It doesn’t matter what should have happened, it’s how they made their innings count afterwards.

No but as good as last month or pressure matches, that's how PP judges a batsman ,although everyone's got.their own bias and many dislike him so..you would see.massively filtered stats to put him down or up accordingly.

Good.

Bad day at the office for Syed1 as PAK are doing well, especially Imam.

No other opener apart from Sharjeel has done as well as Imam after . Saeed Anwar.

Only Sharjeel was better.

Imam should have been out 53 (73) but was dropped

Even Babar was out dropped at 9... Hafeez out 3 times for his 52... SA had a bad fielding day so what is that to do with Imams hundred...

You ran out of options and coming with excuses after excuses, :wahab2

Scoring at an 87 strike rate after consuming over a hundred balls is criminal in this era.

Don't forget the fact that he was initially selected on nepotism. He will go the shehzad route, mark my words.

I'm one of Imams biggest fan as probably the whole forum here knows but this is extremely poor from him. He just set himself up for failure. Now every single failure will be criticized even more. Why would you bring that upon yourself? There was no need to do that. He's been letting his bat do the talking for so long, why put all of that into words?

So far he's scored an 86 and a 101 in this series out of 3 games.

People still after his head.

Of course the guy is going to respond emotionally...and it's good to see how much he cares.

He is gutsy and hardworking but too limited as a batsman. He is a good backup option to have in the squad but we should keep looking for someone better to replace him.

Is there a deKock waiting in the dugout for Pakistan....

This is the typical response we get..Do we have a kohli waiting, do we have a de qock waiting. No, we will have guys who can do the job waiting as long as the employers know that the current employee is not up to scratch according to the requirement of the job.

Fawad would have reminded those days of kaptaan MISBAH thankfully not selected...

This was a poor and completely self-serving innings from Imam. He played conservatively and has seemingly cost Pakistan the match as a result of it.

While it was hilarious to watch to call out his critics after a rare 100 from him, it was immature for him to speak in a way he did against his critics.

He is still in his infancy in Pakistan's national team.

A much more mature minded cricketer would have just let his 100 speak for itself instead of running his mouth incoherently.

He has, in fact, majority of Pakistani players have a long way to go in understanding how to adequately handle media.

Imam shoud just focus on scoring lots of runs for Pakistan.

If he worries about other things, then people will know they are getting under his skin and will criticise him even more.

Our bowling attack is over rated and sucks. Indian bowlers would have made a match of it by now.
