What's new

"This was for the media & for people who are always talking about me behind my back" : Imam-ul-Haq

This level of arrogance after such performances... dread to think what he would act like if he performed like a Kohli or De Villiers.

Watch DeQock's innings in stark contrast. A clear gulf in quality

DeQock was very unfortunate with that run out. Unless some miracle happens I dont see us winning. This pitch is very docile. Imam interview was very surprising. I dont remember any newcommer giving any interview like this.

Not sure, if we lose how will he handle the pressure, especailly if he takes criticism personally.

The problem is we need a player like Fakhar in the team so i dnt think they will drop him.

Not a big fan of Fakhar Zaman - guy is a complete hack ala Shahid Afridi & has been found out. I really dont think he has the technique to last a long time.

Imam-ul-haq on the other hand gets a lot of unnecessary hate on this forum, just because he is Inzi’s nephew. Whatever i have seen of him so far makes me think he has a good future in ODI along with Azam, though he still needs to develop tremendously in Test cricket.

why can we not let anyone be happy?

For my part they can distribute mithai after crossing 30 as long as they get those tons or keep up with the scoring rate.

Usually these days our bats get a fifty and then give their wicket away. We saw it many times in the test series. It's all about hunger and setting standards.

He did his job - scored a hundred - he is not responsible for other people.

I'm one of Imams biggest fan as probably the whole forum here knows but this is extremely poor from him. He just set himself up for failure. Now every single failure will be criticized even more. Why would you bring that upon yourself? There was no need to do that. He's been letting his bat do the talking for so long, why put all of that into words?

Guy has spirit, he has passion, hence his response. He certainly is not timid. I think the Pakistani teams needs players who have his mentality of being able to fight when necessary.

Don't think anybody will call this a selfish innings like Amla's. Opening batsman scoring a hundred in SA is one for the books. It's the right time to put all the nepotism talk in the garbage. He answered it with his bat and his words. Gutsy kid

Probably you got your answer. These days, on 330 per tracks, if you bat first as opener, scoring 70 ball 50 is a curse for the team, and then if you take 50 more balls to score next 50, you are basically losing the game. We have bashed Azhar Ali left, right & centre for his batting in PP - this innings was poorer than Azhar's poor innings. Tell me, why Ahmed should be out of the squad for this guy - he fields better, he has more experience and at 27-28, should be at his prime. I hope Imam is reading this post and remember it before silencing the crowd next time - he is lucky to play for PAK because of his uncle, don't deserve to be in A squad to be honest for List A games.

You should also look at it from another perspective. They are coming from a 203 score with a Hasan ALi 50 in it. The score would still have been 330 if not for Malik. You are incorrectly comparing Imam to what a Rohit Sharma does. The less we speak about Shahzad the better. 60/80 in a Pak setup is terrific. He is still young and can improve his SR. I cannot fault his caution in this game considering the 2nd game. A hundred at 87 SR in SA for a young opener should be commended.

I should be put in a mad house, the day I compare Zero shot nephew Imam with Rohit Sharma. Even in 2008, Sharmaji was a better player than Kohli and what he does once set is probably only we have seen from AdV in recent times. Absolutely no comparison - probably best comparison with nephew is with our Imrul, who also has bashed for 300+ runs in 3 innings against a better ZIM attack recently.

Looks a bit silly now he spoke too soon. Not sure there was any need to publicly run his mouth in the first place.

Why do you think he no shots ? Some of his shots seem good to. Does need to add more range though.

Classless guy. Let your bat do the talking, no need for such outbursts.

Shehzad is much better than Imam.

Lol at Ahmed Shehzad.

Imam averages close to 70.
Shehzad averages 35

Strike rate of Imam - easily 85-87

Strike rate of Shehzad - 65 - 70

Haters will always hate.

Nothing wrong in showing emotions. Imam is a young kid. Hopefully he will score a 100 at a better strike rate next time. He has improved massively on this tour.

Cut the guy some slack.

He is the only one who is performing and converting his starts into big scores.

And yes he may have some technical deficiencies and he may score at a lower strike rate but in the end centuries and big scores wins you matches and not a selfish 40/50 runs.

His reaction was a bit unnecessary. And considering his innings ended in a losing cause should bring some humility in him.
To begin with it was not a superlative effort. He did his job , nothing more.
Considering our history with openers, Imam is a very good prospect but he needs to work a lot on his game to improve his strike rate and fielding.
101 off 116 , when the side always had wickets in hand during the entire innings is not that impressive.

After failing in 9 innings in South Africa Test Matches, alot of gall to be celebrating like that in an ODI match...

I like the guy, maybe has a point to proof, also maybe want him away from the Test Squad for a while...

I almost forgot that we lost the game after seeing imam tweet.

By tomorrow we’ll be seeing pictures of our players feeding Imam a cake for his century, personal achievements weigh more than the teams achievements it seems.

I don't think he needed to tweet that after a lost game. Shows poorly on a team spirit.

as if the others were scoring centuries for fun

Having watched the highlights he was dropped at 53 :))

That puts to rest all this gaga by deluded fans.

i wouldn't mix test/odi performances.

when was the last time an opener scored a 100 against a decent side? 2017?

Even Shehzad has a century against an in-form SA side with Steyn in his prime.

I'm not jumping to conclusions either, what I've seen of him he looks a good limited overs bat. Will need to improve his SR.

It was a poor knock.

People are looking at the overall 300+ score as an indication that it laid a platform for success.

If anything, it was the fluent contributions of Babar, Hafeez, and Imad (the latter after Imam was dismissed) which pushed Pakistan into a position from which Imam could focus strictly on obtaining his century.

He hit four boundaries from 50 to 100 and played two overs worth of dot balls when he should have accelerated further on.

A lack of mediocore options in reserve does not mean that we cannot recognize a mediocre option in action.

Bhai let him play play more games. May be with these sort of performances he'll gain more confidence and open up a bit more.
dont forget he's very new to this level

going by the history of our team if imam didn't bat through there way no way you would have been in the position to score 300 anyway.

even imran nazir has a century against walsh and ambrose.

one off knocks don't tell the whole story, consistency does.... imam has scored 2 half centuries and a century

The problem with such statements is that they come and bite you later.

Behaved as if was in team since 5 years and performing and suddenly got criticised for failures
He is lucky to get so many chances he was persisted despite so many failures would this treatment be given to other ? No.

:)) Imam man time to be humble, next few months will either make or break him....literally just because of this comment.
