Modi complains to Boris over occupied Kashmir protests outside India's London HC

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to his British counterpart, Boris Johnson, about demonstrations over New Delhi's decision to strip occupied Kashmir of its special status, outside the Indian high commission in London, the UK foreign ministry said.

Thousands of people, many waving Pakistani and Kashmiri flags, protested outside the high commission last week, on India's Independence Day, against Modi's withdrawal of occupied Kashmir's special status. Modi's supporters and members of his ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged that demonstrators had attacked Indian women and children with bottles and eggs and that British authorities had failed to thwart them.

Police in London had said that four people were arrested for affray, obstruction of police and possession of an offensive weapon.

Modi, in a telephone call with Johnson on Tuesday, said vested interests were pursuing their agenda through violent means.

"In this context, he referred to the violence and vandalism perpetrated by a large mob against the High Commission of India in London on the last Independence Day of India," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

"Prime Minister Johnson regretted the incident and assured that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure safety and security of the High Commission, its personnel and visitors," the ministry said.

Modi also told Johnson that terrorism was a problem for both India and Europe and that measures had to be taken to fight it, according to the British foreign ministry's statement.

“He [Modi] stressed the importance of effective steps to ward off the threats posed by radicalisation, violence and intolerance, particularly in the context of the expanding footprint of terrorist organisations such as ISIS,” the ministry said, referring to the militant Islamic State group.

Modi's revocation of occupied Kashmir's special status in the Indian constitution means people there will lose exclusive rights to property, government jobs and college placements and open them up to Indians.

The change has sparked fury in Pakistan and Islamabad has sought the support of the United States, Britain and other powers to pressure India over the occupied territory.

Good, keep waiting for eternity.

Good, keep waiting for eternity.

If you look at your own history then it is probably a good thing that Ghandi didn't have the same mindset, he was a jobber that kept making sure his voice was heard when it came to wanting that big main-event push and he got it in the end

I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides.

No human race is superior; no religious faith is inferior. All collective judgements are wrong. Only racists make them.

There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.

I’m no fan of Gandhi, never was. But it’s true that he is one of the most admired people ever. With good comes the bad, there are also critics of him who vilify him for certain things.

Regardless, I couldn’t care less about the man.

That's fair enough then as your point stands, however he is seen as an empowering person by many for his message and approach in the face of severe horrors

U a rss supporter?

Its funny how Pakistani media decides which Indian organisation is secular and which is not.

This is desperate by Pakistan.
We dont really care who is secular and who isn't in Inida, as a Kashmiri we want our right to self determination as per UN resolutions.

Also, you can bet that 99% of them are PTI supporters. It is a virus.

Mamoon you are an idiot, you have no respect for human value. I always suspected you are an Indian now you have confirmed. Do you even know what is India doing in Kashmir? Poor people are under curfew for the last 23 days. You have no heart and you have no respect for a human life. If you can't say anything good then keep your gob shut.

The chances of him being an Indian living in Peshawar are greater than the chances of you being a Kashmiri living in Kashmir.

You saying you couldn't care less about a man who helped your forefathers gain independence from British rule (more like freedom from slavery).

No matter how leftist or right winger you are surely you got to acknowledge a free life is better than slavery.

Rubbish. The real real hero of our independence movement was Subhash Chandra Bose. Gandhi was not the reason why the British decided to leave India.

That's very dismissive. You have bluntly set aside Gandhi like he had no contribution whatsoever, no matter how big or small his inputs were he should be acknowledged for freedom that India enjoys today. Freedom is better than slavery on any given day in any given situation, you should acknowledge that too.

Modi must be the most hated person on earth today?

Thousands of protesters have taken out a rally in London to express solidarity with the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir, as a crippling lockdown imposed by the Indian government in the occupied region since revoking its special status entered its 30th day on Tuesday.

More than 5,000 protesters assembled at Parliament Square in the British capital and marched to the Indian High Commission to protest Kashmiris' oppression at the hands of Indian security forces.

A number of local and Kashmiri organisations had called on activists and supporters from all over England to come to London and join the protest against the revocation of Article 370 of the Indian constitution, which granted special autonomy to occupied Kashmir.

Protesters carrying placards and waving Kashmir flags chanted slogans of "Terrorist terrorist, Modi is a terrorist!" and "Hum cheen kay lain gay — azaadi!" (We will take by force — freedom!). Some protesters also reportedly hurled eggs and tomatoes at the high commission's building.

A heavy contingent of police was deployed at the scene to prevent any violence.

The Indian government had imposed a strict security lockdown and communications blackout in occupied Kashmir just before it repealed Article 370 of the constitution on August 5. Extra troops were posted in the region, which is already heavily militarised, and Kashmiri leaders and activists were arrested.

The lockdown and communications blackout is still in place a month later, despite the Indian government's claim of having eased some restrictions.

There is truth in both these posts.

Bose led to the British losing the Indian Army. If they had the Indian Army they would have hung on to India for as long as they could, especially if Churchill was the PM. The armed struggle by people like Surya Sen, Bhagat Singh, BBD and others also made it impossible for them to hold on to India by force.

Gandhi's great contribution was bringing Indians together. Clive's and later British success in India depended upon "divide and rule" given that Britain was much smaller than India.

I would say that both contributions were critical in securing the independence of India, though the contribution by Bose and others who engaged in armed struggle has been downplayed in Indian history textbooks for a long time.

Not sure why Indians are upset about this when they support Indian army in occupied Kashmir.

British Indians dont have people power in the UK, nobody is scared of them here.

Nobody is scared of Brit Pakistanis too. They cant do much. They tried hooliganism in the past and British police took care of them.

Since they attacked a high commission, it will be dealt with at the appropriate level.

Indians are which is why they are crying on twitter and online forums. They are not in Kashmir so thats why you dont see them confronting Brit Paks.

Nothing will happen lol

Crying? Crying is what the Pakistani PM does on twitter each day.

The Mayor of London tweeted what i posted. He is not Indian.

Confront? Lol. This is not WWE ring. Nor the medieval world. There are authorities to deal with hooliganism.

What will or will not happen, will be seen.

Yes check the twitter thread on the link, British Indians thanking a Brit Pakistani mayor and crying about protests.

Is it a WWE ring in India where people are butchered for walking cows, Muslims are forced to say Hindu Gods, beaten for waving a Pak flag etc? Indians are brave only within their own country or in Kashmir with guns against an unarmed population. I can assure you British Indians will never dream of confronting any Pakistani no matter what he/she says because here in the UK, they will get a good hiding.

Nothing will happen apart from some small charge for someone who broke the window lol.

He is the mayor. Holding a constitutional elected post. He may be from whichever community, he has to do his duty.

I can assure you, you are a nobody who can do nothing to any brit indian and if you try to, you will be taken care of by the authorities. You can threaten all you want on a forum.

Already the foreign secretary has issued his regret after the mayor.

Only some blind facist hindus here can’t see what is happening in Kashmir. To close schools, lock people inside, don’t give them access to Food and medicines in 21st century is unbelieveable. And after all this they still think nothing will happen in Kashmir lol.

He is also against the occupation of Kashmir by India.

You're slow , read my post again. Ill make it simple. If Indian Hindutva goons in the UK try to attack anyone as they do in India, they will be beaten up. This isn't a threat of violence but a confirmation of self defence. My point was Indians cant do to Pakistanis in the UK what they do to Muslims in India and Kashmir. You know why? Because these Hindutva Modi followers are cowards.

They can issue any statement but breaking a window is a nothing crime in the UK, the chap(s) wont be in the police station longer than a couple of hours.

He has no power or duty in Indian. But he has that in London and he has regretted what happened.

As i said, you are a nobody and you can do nothing. Your assertions here mean nothing so stop bigging yourself.

Attacking a foreign embassy is not a nothing crime.
