Sharjeel : Warner
Fakhar: Anwar
Babar : Kohli
Asad: Tendulkar
Sarfraz : Dhoni
Talat: Stokes (Will be compared in the future)
Faheem: Klusner
Imad: Yuvraj
Hassan: Waqar
Amir: Wasim
Shaheen: Starc

That's some ATG line up there.

People take Mickey's comparisons out of context

For example on Babar
"I'll go so far as to say, at the same age, I reckon he's as good as Virat Kohli, which I know that's high praise but he's right up there"

Keywords: "AT THE SAME AGE" and there is nothing untrue about that, Babar had a better start to his career as compared to Kohli. Now he is nowhere near as good now but that doesn't make Mickey's statement false

On Shaheen

"He Reminds me of a young Mitchel Starc"

Again whats wrong with that statement? At 17 Shaheen is 6^7, bowling at 140 ks and getting reverse swing?

On Asad

"Technically, Asad Shafiq is our best batsman,"

"When he gets forward he is sideways on. Look at him: short, balanced, punches well off the front foot, cuts exceptionally well.

"At times I could almost visualise Sachin Tendulkar. That is high praise, and I have told him that."

I agree this was the ridiculous comparison, but he isn't saying he is as good as Tendulkar, all he is saying is that visually he resembles him, which again isn't far-fetched.

On Sharjeel

"If Sharjeel comes off, plays really well and gets us the momentum up front much like David Warner gives to Australia, then he can set a tone for us. So that was the idea behind it.

Again nowhere is he saying that he is as good as Warner, just that he can do a similar job for Pakistan as to what Warner did for Australia? Again what is wrong with that statement? This was specifically in regards to Sharjeel playing in tests.

On Faheem

Keep in mind this is Faheem saying what Mickey said, not a direct quote from Mickey.

"Mickey Arthur said I can be like Pakistan's Lance Klusener. He used to open the bowling then he also opened the batting so he said that similarly, he sees the same thing in me, that I can bowl and bat well and I can become like him for Pakistan"

Essentially saying that Faheem can do a similar job for Pakistan as to what Klusener did to SA, he is just giving Faheem an example to follow what is wrong with that?

The problem is we are so used to ex Pakistan players making stupid statements like "Shezhad has more talent than Tendulkar"

Mickey has never done that, we just need a reason to bash him.

I agree with above post. Some of these comparisons have definitely been taken out of context.

Maestro Mickey is an expert at lifting the team's morale. If it is to be done by comparing our players with other great players, then so be it.

Classic case of oversimplifying comments that are nuanced and were restricted to specific context by who said them.

Ridiculous statements really. If the intention is to motivate the players, he can tell all these things directly to them. I don’t know why he makes such statements in public. A good coach should be helping the players to create an identity of their own.

Does he think because of these comparisons players would feel the pressure and start performing like the guys they’re being compared to? That’d be a very strange way of thinking because we’re talking about professional cricketers here; not school kids.

And his words are definitely not taken out of context. He’s indirectly comparing or equating the players. He can’t be direct with it. I mean, if he directly says Asad Shafiq is as good as SRT, people will throw stones at him :)). So he uses certain loops to get around it. It surely doesn’t hurt anyone but it’s not a very professional thing to do.

Dont want to spoil the fun but why some people rate asad shafiqs technical game?

Just watch his dismissal yesterday...

Thats not just a Pakistani thing. I have seen Indians doing it quite often too.
Just in recent times; Pandya the new Kapil, Gill the new Kohli, Rahul the new Tendulkar, Rahane the new Dravid etc.

And in before some Indian say they deserve the hype and will eventually be there, what happened to Irfan Pathan? He was touted as the next Wasim. Hyped much more than these guys after his start. Where is he now? Ab ye na khna he was a bowler :p I remember on orkut communities Unmukt Chand was called the next Kohli after u-19 WC.

Anyways point is simple, its not a Pakistani thing.

Btw comparison with big names is too much but nothing wrong in getting excited about a young talent. Agr sports mai excitement nai to kuch nahi yar.

He is just trying to encourage and motivate the players..some of his comments are taken out of context.
