This game would be a great chance for Imam to cement his comeback for the national team. He is already on the cards to make a comeback and with a performance in this game, he can make sure that he gets a call 100%

ahmed safi's stats look pretty mediocre, what has he done to warrant a place in shahenns squad
awais anwar should have been there instead

where is Azaan awais and others who have done well in domestic. This Shaheens is worse shaheen side i have seen for years

I would ratehr take Hurraira

He should be given a go but he did not do anything in recent games so Imam has more chances.
I know but he has been doing some great work in FC cricket and should be rewarded for his consistency. One or two bad series should not discount the work has been doing for a number of years now.

He was poor on pacey wickets in south Africa. He is not gonna do anything on Pakistani tracks.

ali zaryab is the one to watch out for

how is he not already in the main team? Are they really going to make him wait until he's 30, like they do with everyone else, before he gets a proper debut? It's ridiculous. At this age, he should be cemented in the squad, not sitting around waiting for a break.

Why imam is not in the main squad? atleast he is way better than Lord Abdullah Shafique
Imam will probably replace Abdullah soon. Abdullah got out on a duck 3x and the management didn't trust him to open in test vs sa.

Pretty sure imam will replace him in tests atleast

Never seen him play FC but I did see him in club cricket and was pretty average. Maybe it was the wickets but he didn't look like a solid FC player

interested to see how Saad goes. Saw him a couple of years ago and he looked a real prospect. Since then he has gone totally Lord Lucan.

More & more Shaheen series should be arranged. It's a solid indication to see players testing their abilities for proof of whether they are international selection or not.

He's looked a poor batsmen whenever I have seen him bat starting from u19. I am actually surprised he's made it this far. Shows how poor our stocks are even then tbh there are far better players than him.

He was a nice guy, quite down to earth. But his struggles in club cricket will not matter if he can score some runs at this level. I wish him the best

Update on Pakistan Shaheens vs West Indies Test squad - Three-day warm-up match

1) Since this is an unclassified, non-first-class game so there will be no toss and the teams have mutually agreed that West Indies will bat first

2) The nomination sheet will include a list of 15 players and any of these players can bat, bowl and field but no more than 11 players may field at any time. However, the innings will be considered complete once 10 wickets have fallen.

3) In this match the 1st innings has been restricted to 90 overs, and this condition will not apply to the 2nd innings.

4) There was a ceremonial team sheet exchange at the start of play on the first day.

Please note that these playing conditions have been agreed upon by both the teams on match day minus one in presence of the playing control team to allow both the sides to have maximum practice.

This is the shambles of a PCB. How can there not be some updates of the score on their website?

Next season he won’t score many runs and people will not to pick him because he’s struggling then he would have to wait another year
Indeed. One season wonders need to be filtered out.

Performers of at least 2-3 seasons need to be preferred in red ball Cricket

Athanaze hits 99 as West Indies begin prep for two-match Test series

West Indies closed the opening day of the three-day warm-up match against Pakistan Shaheens with 273-7 in 74 overs on the back of Alick Athanaze’s 99 at the Islamabad Club Ground on Friday. The toss was uncontested as the teams mutually decided for the West Indies to bat first in this non-first-class match.

Left hander Athanaze, batting at No.5, faced 142 balls, which included 15 fours and one six. He was dismissed by Ahmed Safi Abdullah one shy of century.

Earlier in the day, opening batters Kraigg Brathwaite (34, 39, 5x4s, 1x6) and Mikyle Louis (34, 63b, 4x4s, 1x6) stitiched a 47-run opening partnership before the former fell to Ahmed Safi.

Louis, Keacy Carty (22, 46b, 3x4s) and Kavem Hodge (17, 22b, 2x4s) became Mohammad Rameez Jnr’s preys, as the right-arm leg-spinner returned figures of 3-40 in 13 overs.

Amir Jangoo (29 not out, 42b, 2x4s, 1x6) and Joshua Da Silva (11 not out, 28b) will resume batting for West Indies on day two with 16 overs remaining in the first innings as the first dig for both the teams has been restricted to 90 overs for maximum practice.

Apart from Rameez Jnr and Ahmed Safi, Hussain Talat was the other wicket-taker for Shaheens as he dismissed Tevin Imlach (13, 36b, 1x4).

Warm-up match (Day 1 of 3): Pakistan Shaheens vs West Indies at the Islamabad Club

Toss – Uncontested

West Indies 273-7, 74 overs (Alick Athanaze 99, Kraigg Brathwaite 34, Mikyle Louis 34, Amir Jangoo 29 not out, Keacy Carty 22; Mohammad Rameez Jnr 3-40, Ahmed Safi Abdullah 2-91)

Good to see the spinners pick up some wickets. Rameez Jnr looks quite decent & always thought Ahmed Safi Abdullah has looked better than his numbers suggest.

To be honest I am bit disappointed in Ali Raza , he is no where near Maphaka in terms of raw talent and he is even one year older than Maphaka in real age.

Still a decent prospect with high ceiling but need something on the pitch to pickup wickets and Definitely not a prodigious talent.

Not a good track to evaluate him. Let him play on better supporting track and see how he fairs.

Close of Play Day 2:

West Indies XI: 346 for 8 declared

Pakistan Shaheens: 212 for 9 (58 overs)

Muhammad Hurraira 74 (73)
Mohammad Suleman 45 (79)

Kevin Sinclair 3 for 50
Jayden Seales 2 for 16
Gudakesh Motie 2 for 21
Kemar Roach 1 for 32

Why has Imam been rewarded with a chance in the Test series when the guy got knocked over cheaply here?

Hurraira should open with Shan going into the first Test.

Huraira scores 73-ball 74 against West Indies on day two of warm-up match

Opening batter Mohammad Huraira hit a fluent half-century against West Indies as Shaheens closed the day two with 212-9 on the board at the Islamabad Club on Saturday. Huraira top-scored for Shaheens hitting 13 fours in his 73-ball 74.

After West Indies completed their first innings for 346-8 in 90 overs, Shaheens slipped to 41-2 losing Omair bin Yousuf and skipper Imam-ul-Haq. No.4 batter Mohammad Suleman joined forces with Huraira to stitch a 78-run second-wicket partnership.

Suleman was pinned leg-before by Gudakesh Motie for 45 off 79 balls with the help of seven fours, while Huraira fell to Kevin Sinclair, initiating a batting collapse that costed the Shaheens seven wickets for 92 runs. Rohail Nazir was the other batter who crossed 20-run mark as he returned for a 36-ball 21 striking three fours.

For West Indies, Sinclair picked up three wickets, while Motie and Jayden Seales dismissed two batters each. Kemar Roach and Jomel Warrican accounted for one wicket each as well.

Earlier in the day, West Indies resumed batting from their overnight score of 273-7 to score 346-8 as Amir Jangoo (63 not out, 92b, 8x4s, 1x6) went onto score an unbeaten half-century. Sinclair remained unbeaten for 28 off 36 balls as the duo put on a 56-run unscathed partnership before the innings came to close with completion of 90 overs.

The only West Indies wicket to fall on day two was Joshua Da Silva who was run out by Kashif Ali for 22 off 38 balls with the help of two boundaries.

I agree. If we can give test caps against WI at home, then when will we.
Test caps should be awarded to players who perform consistently and truly deserve them, not to someone like Hurraira, who has averaged 30 in the last 2 Seasons in a row with 0 100's

If Hurraira hasnt scored enough runs in domestic cricket then I am with you on this one.

Do you know if there are deserving openers in domestic cricket who must be given a chance?

In principle we should be trying some new faces against WI. A win or loss against WI doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. But if we unearth a new batter or bowler for the future, that would be massive.

Azan Awais, who’s just 21, has been doing well. He’s scored 844 runs at an average of 76, with 4 hundreds and 2 fifties. His standout scores include 119 in president trophy, 168, 121, 203* and 130 in QEA.

Ali Zaryab has had a decent run too. He’s made 269 runs in 3 innings so far, with a massive 206* not out, On top of that, he managed two fifties in 4 innings against Sri Lanka and scored a hundred against Bangladesh earlier this year. In the 2023/24 season, zaryab played 7 matches, scoring 644 runs at an average of 92, with 3 centuries and a fifty.

Shazaib Khan, who’s only 19, hasn’t played much first-class cricket yet. In this season’s President's Trophy, he made a fifty in 2 innings, but it’s his performances in the U19 Asia Cup that really stand out. He smashed a hundred against India and another against UAE, plus a solid 45 against Japan. This kid’s got real potential.

Maaz Sadaqaat scored 646 runs at an average of 64, including 1 century and 6 fifties. A steady performer

Now, about Huraira this season, he’s only scored 167 runs in 6 innings, averaging 29, with just 1 fifty. Even last season wasn’t that great he managed 496 runs in 15 innings at an average of 33, with only 2 fifties. His performances against Sri Lanka were disappointing, scoring 6 & 9 in one match and 9 & 4 in another. Sure, he has some runs in a practice match against the West Indies, but its just practice

There are some other players who’ve outperformed Huraira this season and last season, but they’re in their late 30s,

Overall, Azan, Ali, Shazaib, and Maaz are all having solid seasons, while Huraira is struggling to find form. Hopefully, he can turn things around soon i wish him the best, but like i said earlier test caps should only be awarded to deserving players

now you take your pick

Thanks for the info. It seems like we had plenty of options. It is unfortunate that none of these newbies will get a chance.
