Bangladesh tour of West Indies (2024) - Discussion Thread

Tanzim is a fiesty player for sure. If he can add batting down the order it will be massive boost for BD.

This disappointing part was even with poor start they could've gotten to 250+ score which would've given the bowlers something to bowl at.

BD somehow consistently does basics wrong. They had a good chance to reach 250 here. That would have given them a fighting chance.. but they bowled out with four overs to spare..

Another series win for the West Indies. Windies are improving under Sammy just like SL are under Jayasuriya

They have obliterated Bangladesh here and even beat England convincingly.

West Indies clinched a convincing seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in St. Kitts to secure the three-match ODI series. This win marked their first ODI series triumph against Bangladesh in a decade, ending the visitors' 11-match winning streak over the Caribbean side.

Jayden Seales was the standout performer with career-best figures of 4 for 22, helping bowl out Bangladesh for 227 in 45.5 overs. Brandon King's blistering 82 off 76 balls spearheaded West Indies' chase, as they comfortably reached the target in 36.5 overs. Captain Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford, who scored a century in the first ODI, remained unbeaten to finish the game.

Bangladesh’s struggles in ODIs continued, having won just one of their last six series. Meanwhile, West Indies’ fortunes in the format are on the rise, with consecutive series wins following their triumph against England last month.

Seales provided the foundation for West Indies’ dominance, claiming three early wickets. Gudakesh Motie supported with figures of 2 for 36, keeping Bangladesh in check during the middle overs. A late 92-run eighth-wicket stand between Mahmudullah (62) and Tanzim Hasan (42) helped the visitors post a respectable total. Mahmudullah, who scored his third consecutive ODI fifty, anchored the innings with two fours and four sixes. Tanzim’s counterattack, including six boundaries, was instrumental in lifting Bangladesh from 115-7 to 227.

West Indies’ chase started strong despite the early loss of Johnson Charles. King and Evin Lewis combined for a century stand, their second this year. King’s aggressive stroke play included eight fours and three sixes. Lewis, after a resilient 49, fell to a return catch by Rishad Hossain.

Although King was dismissed in the 29th over, his explosive innings had already set up the win. Rutherford and Hope sealed the game in style, with Rutherford smashing two massive sixes off Shoriful Islam in the 37th over to finish the chase.

West Indies' dominant performance highlighted their resurgence in ODI cricket, while Bangladesh was left searching for answers after another series defeat.

West Indies vs Bangladesh, 3rd ODI

West Indies have won the toss and have opted to field

West Indies
(Playing XI): Brandon King, Amir Jangoo, Keacy Carty, Shai Hope(w/c), Alick Athanaze, Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase, Romario Shepherd, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph, Jediah Blades

It is a flat pitch. So, it neutralizes BD's strength which is bowling.

Windies are favorites to win 3-0.

Debutant Blades is under the pump.

Gave away 29 runs in 3 overs.

BD - 36/2 (6 overs).

BD - 50/2 (10.1 overs).

Need 300+ here. Otherwise, it should be too easy for Windies.

Windies missing quite a few first choice players - Lewis, Seales, Forde, Greaves etc.
Still in with a decent chance to whitewash BD showing the paucity of talent in BD

BD - 258/5 (44.4 overs).

Can they cross 300? This is a very flat pitch. 300+ is a must.

Nothing to do with ranking. Even USA, Afghanistan, Netherlands, Ireland are more fun than BD.
agree with you there. Afg is very exciting team to watch. Netherlands, again is so full of energy and effort and always makes me support them even if they are playing agianst India. USA, the way they played in world cup was nothing but amazing and some of their players have very good future in world cricket. Compared to all of them, BD comes across as very bland and single dimension team. ODI is their best format and even in that they never look like a team you want to pay to watch.

OK. That's good. So, why you are on this thread and did anyone ask you to watch? LOL.

You are behaving like an overweight Bollywood auntie.
I am watching for Windies, what is the problem? Can I not post here if I don't find BD watchable? No need for that kind of language. I will report you to the mods. Be civil.

They got some very cheap wins vs Windies. Windies are 2 time ODI Champs and CT Champions.
WI never attempts to field their best team most of the times.. they seem to take everything for granted and mostly have become t20 mercenaries. Thankfully they are making a slow comeback.. lets see.. But even on their worst day WI is a better spectator team than BD can ever hope to be

I agree with you. Not sure why this sweepshot is taking cheap personal shots at me for just saying BD is boring to watch.

This warm-up match holds significant importance in preparation for the main Test series. It offers a valuable opportunity for fringe players to showcase their skills in a competitive setting, while also providing Test players with an opportunity to fine-tune their form.

Head Coach Andre Coley remarked on the upcoming series.

We expect the series against Bangladesh to be a competitive one between two emerging squads. The build up to the series, through the two-day warm-up match and training camp will provide us with the best possible preparation, as they will afford opportunities for both experienced and emerging players to fine-tune their skills ahead of the Test series

WI is going to win this very easily.

Windies have given away 7 wides. Need to improve on that.

Against BD, it is not a big deal. But, against top teams, these things matter.

38 year old Mahmudullah who is probably in his final 12 months of professional cricket is still their best bat. Shows how far BD has come.

I thank Allah for a functioning and efficient ignore button here. Quite a few salty posters.

BD - 279/5 (47 overs).

Good over for BD. 17 off it.

I reported your earlier post where you called me overweight Bollywood aunty - showing xenophobic and gender biased mentality in response to someone saying a cricket team was boring to watch. No need to invoke religion and God here.

they resort to insults, because they have no point. They resort to religion because they know people won't say anything if they invoke religion and God.

West Indies Squad Announced for T20I Series Against Bangladesh in St. Vincent

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the squad for the upcoming three-match T20 International (T20I) home series against Bangladesh, which will be held from December 15 to 19, 2024, at the Arnos Vale Stadium in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The series, which will be the final series for the year on home soil, will see the return of the experienced Johnson Charles, who has been sidelined for the past two series due to injury. Additionally, Keacy Carty has earned his first T20 International call-up following an impressive Caribbean Premier League season, strengthening the middle-order options for the West Indies. The team will be captained by Rovman Powell, with Brandon King as vice-captain.

Head Coach Daren Sammy welcomed the inclusion of Carty, who notched a maiden century against England in November, emphasizing the importance of depth in the batting lineup for a competitive series.

Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford will not be available for this series as they are fulfilling commitments in the Big Bash League. Akeal Hosein will also miss the final match of the series for similar reasons.

The squad was selected with a clear focus on continuity and preparation for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.

Sammy expressed the importance of closing the year on a high, particularly for fans in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Amir Jangoo was the leading runscorer in the recent West Indies domestic 50 over competition.

He also averaged 100 in their last 4 day championship so a Test callup may be beckoning too.

Sadly like the vast majority of current WI batsmen - the overall domestic averages are poor and don't bode well for international cricket. Just finding someone with a FC average above 30 has been a challenge for WI selectors.

Needles negativity, brother Markhor. You are seeing the Caribbean white ball revival in full swing under Sammy. This is cause for celebration

Even teams like Australia are struggling to find young elite Test class batters.

Forget about under-resourced and limited markets like the Caribbean .

Wicket finally. BD needed it.

Carty is out for 95.

Windies - 218/5 (33.2 overs).

104 are needed from 100 balls.

Their prospects look fine in T20 and can win the occasional ODI series 6at home.

However they haven't won an away ODI series vs a Test playing nation since 2019 (Afghanistan).

But I'm here for the Amir Jangoo Golden Era :lara

Their ODI lineup looks more solid than it has since forever.

Their best XI has Lewis, Carty(averaging 62 this year) , Hope, Rutherford (averaging 77 in career so far) .

And then they have the likes of Greaves(3 consecutive tons in List A this year) and Athanaze

Can't remember the last time a West Indies ODI lineup had similar potential.

BD get another wicket. Crucial blow.

Windies - 247/6 (38.2 overs).

75 are needed from 70 balls.

They all have beastly hitting ability. They have to mix the defense and aggression in right proportion to do well in all conditions.

I think Bangladesh missed a trick by not playing a 3rd pacer. They went with 3 spinners. Not sure why.

This is a flat pitch.
