Bangladesh tour of West Indies (2024) - Discussion Thread

both set batsmen going in quick succession opens the door for windies again. 250 odd will be enough on this surface though so BD still favourites

BD - 143/4 (28 overs).

Leading by 161 runs.

Will Windies be penalized for a slow over-rate? They are not playing any frontline spinner. Only 1 over has been bowled by a part-time spinner.

Same thing happened to WI in their 2nd Test vs SA in Guyana.

They bowled SA out cheaply in the 1st inns before collapsing in a heap with the bat.

The batsmen just cannot exploit whatever hard work the bowlers produced.

Bangladesh is back in game now!

Bangladesh's game to lose now. Windies batting couldn't support the bowlers, and then the bowlers didn't have a good 2nd innings as they sprayed it a lot.

I believe highest successful run chase in Jamaica is something like 212. So, Windies have to break a record if they are to win it.

Anyway, BD probably would want to set a target of 300 (250 minimum).

Bangladesh is in a strong position with scores of 164 and 193 for 5 (Shadman 46, Mehidy 42, Shamar 2-70) leading West Indies' 146 (Carty 40, Brathwaite 39, Rana 5-61) by 211 runs. Their counter-attacking batting and precise fast bowling marked their best day on this West Indies tour so far. At stumps on the third day of the Jamaica Test, Bangladesh led by 211 runs after bowling out the hosts for 146. This marked only the second time in their history that they took a first-innings lead after being bowled out for less than 200 runs.

They performed significantly better in their second innings - the game's third - ending the day at 193 for 5, despite hostile bowling from the West Indies fast bowlers. The fielders also added pressure with their verbal exchanges, but Bangladesh mostly kept their cool. Umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Asif Yaqoob had to step in multiple times to address the West Indies players' behavior.

Earlier, West Indies squandered a strong position, collapsing to 146 all out, losing their last nine wickets for just 61 runs. Fast bowler Nahid Rana spearheaded Bangladesh's attack with a maiden five-wicket haul, including aggressive bowling that left Kemar Roach battered. Rana's figures of 5 for 61 also included dismissing Roach, who was forced to come out to bowl later in the innings due to his injuries.

Rana's morning spell continued his impressive performance from the previous evening. His height and pace generated extra bounce on the Sabina Park pitch, removing Brathwaite with a sharp 142kph delivery. Rana's bowling created opportunities, including a superb catch by Litton Das to remove Hodge after a missed chance by Taskin Ahmed.

Taskin also contributed by bowling Alick Athanaze off the under edge, while Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with key wickets. Hasan Mahmud joined the party, trapping Joshua Da Silva lbw and getting Keacy Carty caught behind within three deliveries. Rana completed his five-for by dismissing Alzarri Joseph and Roach, ensuring a strong morning session for Bangladesh.

Shadman Islam showed solidity for Bangladesh, supported by an aggressive innings from Shahadat Hossain, who lifted Bangladesh's mood with quick runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz also contributed significantly, striking four consecutive fours and forming a crucial partnership with Shadman.

Despite losing Shadman and Mehidy after the tea break, Bangladesh's Litton Das and Jaker Ali added valuable runs. They countered the West Indies' bouncers to extend Bangladesh's lead past 200, leaving the hosts struggling to keep the visitors' batsmen quiet. This effort led to a memorable day for Bangladesh in Jamaica.

Excellent come back by BD. They have a great chance of securing a rare away win. This WI batting is very vulnerable to collapses

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) is excited to announce the 15-man squad selected for the eagerly awaited West Indies Men’s CG United One Day International (ODI) home series against Bangladesh.

Jangoo also earns selection following a prolific Super50 season, where he topped the scoring chart with 446 runs in seven innings at an average of 89.20.

Commenting on the squad, Head Coach Daren Sammy,

“We continue to build towards the main target of the ICC Men’s 50-over World Cup where we are looking to broaden the pool of players even with the short-term objectives of winning series, especially at home and building momentum on the recent win against England.”

“Greaves is capable of batting anywhere in the top six and brings that genuine all-round ability to the squad, which is welcomed at this stage, while Jangoo’s prowess in the CG United Super50 shows his flexibility to bring another dimension to our batting unit.”

Shai Hope will lead the team, with Brandon King as his deputy.

On a knife edge. WI need somebody to go big here like Kyle Mayers did in Chattogram in that runchase in 2021.

First time caught the match. It is depressing to see the empty stands. Sunday leagues would have more people. COmpared to the test matches in West indies in the 80s and before this is a sorry sight.I don't see any soul other than staffs from both sides.

It would be a record at this ground if Windies can win it.

212 is the highest ever successful run-chase in Jamaica. Windies need 287.

BD favourites now. This match going same way as the Test that WI dropped against SA in Guyana a few months ago.
