Bangladesh tour of West Indies (2024) - Discussion Thread

In the last 5 years or so only India and SA has won a series in West Indies (both twice). England/Pakistan/Srilanka/Bangladesh couldn't win. Australia/NZ didn't tour.

Apart from poor show by BD one has to complement the pace attack of West Indies. Hope they bring back.the glory days. Their batting has to step up. Athaneze is not exactly Brian Lara. But still.the best young talent they have. They need a legit superstar in the batting department.

15.5 overs, 10 maidens, 4 wickets for 5 runs.

Those are some incredible bowling figures from Jayden Seales.

BD should be banned for being the talentless side in world cricket.

Shahadat Hossain Dipu will not even make the 2nd XI of a domestic side.

Beyond garbage.

Losing 2-0 at home to this side is a cricketing crime ,in our not so esteemed cricketing history this performance has to be crowned as our lowest ever point

Brathwaite guides Windies' early response to Bangladesh in 2nd Test

West Indies' second-wicket pair of Kraigg Brathwaite and Keacy Carty safely negotiated a tricky final period to take their team to 70-1 in reply to Bangladesh's first-innings total of 164 at stumps on the second day of the second and final test at Sabina Park on Sunday.

In desperate need of runs after a lean spell throughout much of 2024, captain Brathwaite was at his most phlegmatic in grinding out an unbeaten 33 off 115 balls.

Relative newcomer Carty was equally watchful for his 19 not out off 60 balls, the pair coming together in a stand so far worth 45 runs after the raw pace of Nahid Rana accounted for Brathwaite's opening partner Mikyle Louis (12).

Rana's wholehearted effort was some consolation for the tourists after the West Indies fast bowlers exploited the many deficiencies to consistent pace and bounce of the Bangladesh batting line-up.

This was particularly exposed in the first test in Antigua when the West Indian pace battery pummelled their opponents during a comprehensive 201-run win.

Leading the assault in Jamaica was Jayden Seales, who returned the outstanding figures of four wickets for five runs off 15.5 overs.

Frustrated late on the rain-shortened first day when poor catching left him with just one wicket for his efforts, he continued to bowl with miserly hostility and eventually got the reward of the last three wickets of the innings.

Shamar Joseph had done the early damage on the second morning to finish with three for 49.

"For me, I just run in and bowl as fast as possible and try to make batsmen as uncomfortable as possible," said Joseph, before hailing Seales' excellent returns.

"That's the best spell I have seen him bowl since I have been part of the team and I enjoyed watching that. He always brings a level of intensity to his effort."

Unbeaten on 50 overnight with Bangladesh at 69-2, opener Shadman Islam top-scored with 64 before he was sixth out with captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz (36) the only other player showing any meaningful resistance.

In their last 15 test innings in the West Indies across four tours since 2014, Bangladesh posted an innings total below 200 for the 11th time.

Bangladesh have named a 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies

Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue to captain Bangladesh in the absence of regular skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who continues to recover from a groin injury. This will be the first time Mehidy will captain in the ODI format. He is also the stand-in leader in the ongoing Test series in West Indies.

The BCB’s medical team has also confirmed the unavailability of middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy, who is dealing with groin issues.

On the other hand, batter Zakir Hasan has been dropped following underwhelming performances against Afghanistan last month. Left-hander Afif Hossain Dhrubo has been recalled to the ODI squad after a year. Fast bowler Nahid Rana retains his spot after an impressive debut against Afghanistan.

Bangladesh will play three ODIs against the West Indies, starting on December 8. This marks the beginning of the white-ball leg, following the two Test matches, with the ODIs being followed by three T20Is.

ODI squad

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Captain), Litton Das (WK), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Soumya Sarkar, Parvez Hossain Emon, Md Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali Anik, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Nahid Rana

ODI Series schedule

1st ODI, Basseterre, 8 December
2nd ODI, Basseterre, 10 December
3rd ODI, Basseterre, 12 December

Bangladeshis cannot really do well in any format unless they play in Bangladesh, Afghans have more chance even in this format inspite of instability.

This type of sluggish pitch suits BD more than Windies.

Anyway, Windies are still favorites but BD are back in the game.

Maiden 5-fer for Nahid Rana. Well done.

Windies are all-out for 146.

BD have a lead of 18 runs.

Innings break.

Bangladeshi players seem so frustrated it’s only a six

Did you watch the whole series?

Windies players were sledging BD players hard (first Test particularly). I guess BD players decided to give it back.

As usual, you wrote a post without understanding context.

BD managed a lead of 18 runs.

They need to give a target of 250 minimum. That should be a good target on this sluggish surface.

Bangladeshi players if they don't win this test should just stop playing this format.. a pitch totally suited to them easily the worst team in South Asia.

I disagree if you are talking about test format. Bangladesh just whitewashed Pakistan and won last one off test against Afghanistan by a hugeee margin. How can you say like this?

Essentially it is an one innings shoot out. Unless BD completely blows out in the 2nd dig they are in pole position to win this Test. I have not seen even a single ball. So i am not sure how the pitch is.

Based on your consistency and losing to India within 3 days when India got whitewashed by Kiwis.

The Pakistan win is probably an anomaly..

Windies players are trying to distract BD batters with constant sledging. Not working so far.

BD - 42/1 (9.2 overs).

Leading by 60 runs.

No team is consistent in south asia. Your India has been whitewashed at home. India has been number 1 in asia. That is unquestionably fact. But who is the worst , you cant say it without a question. Its debatable. Afghanistan is still not a fearsome team. They are beatable and thrashable.

Afghanistan are currently not great in Test format. They lost by 500+ runs to BD not long ago. Afghans are really good in white ball cricket, however.

Anyway, not sure why @JaDed is derailing the thread. Thread is about BD vs West Indies.

Bangladesh has been dominating WI . Thats wonderful after being beaten by WI convincingly

Both Windies and BD have thesame issue with batting consistency. Last 2 years batting average of different teams

Both are at the bottom.
