A sensational knock from Tilak against SRH. 50 up for him and still going strong.

Tilak Varma completed his fifty as he scored 65 runs of 45 deliveries to set his team target a powerful finish with the bat.

He has been performing really well for MI in this addition of IPL and currently in the top 10 in terms of leading run-scorers this season.

He would be bowling some overs if not for impact player rule.

He needs to do a Riyan Parag and drag Hyderabad Ranji team into limelight. He has been good but not extraordinary in domestic cricket so far.

He is at that age when an Indian player kicks on to next level and contests for India spot in multiple formats.

This IPL, we have seen some players who were unheard of. Tilak Verma was always there but he never was as highlighted as he is now. The competition of being in the squad just got much harder as we have seen many players who are knocking on the door of selectors.

He already represented India. Started well. Then tapered off. He is also an under-19 World Cup finalist. Most of the young guys that get hyped are from under-19. The Players like Asuthosh, and Shashank have done well in the domestic T20 league. The Indian domestic T20 league is quite a good league. In addition to the national domestic T20 league, they have a state-level T20 league too. Regional level T20 league. They are all competitive. So in a way, most of these guys come through the ranks. Sometimes having too many options can be a problem. You don't know which one will flourish. You have to iterate through them by giving sufficient chances. This is where IPL is useful where you get to play a lot of matches. You get more exposure. But for IPL Bumrah would have never been found. John wright played a major role in unearthing Bumrah.

Do you think he is good enough to be in the squad?

Vilak Varma scored maiden T20I century 107*(56) in 3rd T20I against South Africa

He is the 11th player to hit a hundred against South Africa in T20Is

At just 22 years old, Tilak Varma now becomes the second youngest Indian to score a T20I hundred. Yashasvi Jaiswal takes the first spot in this feat after he scored a hundred against Nepal at the 2023 Asian Games.

Haha indians are hyping him as if he scored century against South Africa's top side. He was bashing South Africa's inexperienced bowling unit.

Scoring century is still a great achievement. Might not rate him 10/10 because of the attack South Africa had but still he played a solid knock.

Which Indian hyped him? Poor guy no one is talking about his knock , I said in the other thread as well.

Thats fine .most of Indian fans are not even discussing his century .

But when pakistan was won the series against Australia " D " , pakistan fans were hyping like they won the World cup .

After the century in last match, Tilak goes big again. 53*(22) so far against South Africa in the fourth and final match of the T20I series

Back-to-back centuries for Tilak Varma!

The young left-hander scores an impressive century in just 41 balls, including 6 fours and 9 sixes in 4th T20I against South Africa

Good find for India... He plays with a long handle which actually gives him extra leverage to play big shots... just like Razzaq used to play.

Tilak Varma in T20Is stroke wise

Ambati Rayudu hails Tilak Varma as a 'superstar cricketer' during an interview with a local sports media outlet:

"He [Tilak Varma] is a superstar cricketer and I have seen him grow in Hyderabad. He has played four extraordinary knocks. Since Suryakumar Yadav has become the captain, the confidence he has been given and the trust that has been shown in him, he is paying him back fully."

"I feel India have got a huge superstar and he can become an all-format player. It's not that he is only a T20 player. Considering the maturity he showed today (Saturday), he has the ability to be a match-winner for India for many years. So I feel he should be backed in every format."

He is a good player , Still has room for improvement.

Will have to bat well when given opportunity in longer formats.

They want super star culture gone. Here we have Ambati rayudu making him superstar literally. Enough of this superstar.

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali, while speaking on his YouTube channel:

"When I interviewed Mohammad Azharuddin, he took the name of Tilak Varma when he was nothing, playing only in IPL. He said, ‘There is Tilak Varma, watch him [play]’ and now it’s come true."

"Duniya ek numbari to Tilak Varma teen nambari (If the World No.1, then Tilak Varma is No. 3.) You’ll ask what did I say? It’s because he is performing back-to-back since he’s come at No. 3."

"You saw [in the match], that Gautam [Gambhir] used the left-right combination [well]. [Varma] Played well, what a match."

I think tilak still have a lot to improve.there were far too many thick outside edges flying over the keepers head against quality fast bowling. He had strike rotation issues in spin too.lets hope he gets better.

Young Indian batting talent Tilak Varma has joined Hampshire for four County Championship matches

The 22-year-old from Hyderabad will be available for Hampshire men’s next four fixtures in the Rothesay County Championship, starting with the Rose and Crown’s away clash with Essex.

Varma has featured 29 times for India, 25 of which have been in IT20s where he has scored 749 runs with two centuries – which came in successive innings against South Africa in November 2024 – and three fifties, which includes a 72* against England at the start of the year.
More known for his exploits in T20 cricket, and the IPL in particular, he made his short-format debut in 2019 before being signed by Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2022 edition of the IPL.

Since then, he has racked up just under 1500 runs for the franchise in 54 matches, with eight fifties at an average of 37.47 and a strike rate of 144.41, and as of June 2025, Varma has the second highest ever average for any men’s batter in IT20 cricket – 49.93 – and the highest of any ICC full member.

Giles White, Director of Cricket, said: “It’s fantastic to have Tilak available for the next four County Championship matches. He’s an exciting talent who has already made a big impact on the international stage and in the IPL, and we look forward to seeing what he can do for Hampshire this summer.”

In red ball cricket, the left-handed Varma has played 18 First-Class matches and represented India A in the Duleep Trophy and played two matches against England Lions in early 2024.

He has scored over 1200 runs with five centuries and four fifties at an average of 50.16.
Hampshire currently sit in seventh place in the Rothesay County Championship Division One having recorded their best finish in the competition since 2005 last summer when the club finished as runners-up.

The first opportunity Hampshire fans will have to watch Tilak Varma will be at Chelmsford against Essex from 22-25 June before a home debut against Worcestershire from 29 June-2 July.
