What's new

Tim Southee, Seth Rance and Colin Munro lead NZ to a seven-wicket win over Pakistan in first T20I

Let's hope for rain in the next 2 games to avoid further embarrassment. Either that or the pakistani top order shows up which has been the main difference between the 2 teams.

First of all Hasan has a poor attitude :danish. He’s one of the few players in this team that has any sort of fight in him.

He’s been lacking rhythm, and I feel the playing the BPL, CPL and T10 are starting to take the toll on his body. Anyhow, every bowler is allowed a bad series, especially someone like Hasan who has essentially carried our ODI team.

Pakistani players don't play any where the amount of cricket the players from the major 5 countries play, these are just excuses. The players and the coaches have to take responsibility for their poor performances themselves.

I don't like the celebrations. To me that stuff should be reserved for express pace bowlers and those who are all time great players as they can back it up.

He is the number 1 odi bowler . He does what he likes .He can more than back it up.

Sarfaraz garbage captaincy is exposed now. Now he better use Aamir 4th over where sun doesn’t shine.

These top 5 teams also continually rest their fast bowlers throughout the year. With Pakistan, Amir and Hasan are playing every game and on top of that are playing 3-4 leagues.

pathetic tour. pcb needs to organize a series vs. SL or WI in UAE asap so boys can get their confidence back...

I agree with this, They're really outclassed against the big 5 ODI teams.

Pakistan vs. the West Indies would be a competitive series now they've both had tough tours to New Zealand.

Wellington - Colin Munro ensured New Zealand continued a stellar home summer on Monday when they thrashed Pakistan by seven wickets with 25 balls to spare in the opening Twenty20 match in Wellington.

Munro was left unbeaten on 49 when a wide by Hasan Ali in the 16th over gave New Zealand victory as they chased down Pakistan's 105 in the clash of the world's top two ranked Twenty20 sides.

It extended New Zealand's winning streak to 13 across all three formats in the past two months including five one-dayers against Pakistan and a series of Tests, ODIs and Twenty20s against the West Indies.

For Tim Southee, the stand-in captain after a late decision to rest Kane Williamson who has a minor injury, everything went according to plan.

"Obviously winning the toss on that wicket and then coming out and taking early wickets was the plan and we were able to do that. We bowled exceptionally well," said Southee who also paid tribute to Munro's role with the bat.

"It was a great knock from Colin. He likes to get on with it and I think he played a mature innings and was able to hammer it home towards the end."

Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed again had to defend a woeful performance by his top order batsmen, which also plagued them in the ODI series, and believed they were well short of a competitive total.

"We're not batting well enough up the order. The new ball was swinging and bouncing, we didn't keep wickets in hand. They bowled very well with the new ball," he said.

"If we had a score of 140-150 it could have been a good match."

After a wobbly start in which Martin Guptill went for two and Glenn Phillips was bowled for three, Munro and Tom Bruce (26) set up the New Zealand victory with a 49-run stand for the third wicket.

After cautiously lifting the score to 34 for two after eight overs, they took 23 off the next 12 balls to reduce the target to under six an over and they coasted from there.

Following Bruce's dismissal, Ross Taylor partnered Munro through to the end with a rapid 22 off 13 deliveries.

Munro's 43-ball innings included three fours and two sixes and he was left a frustrating one-run short of being only the third player behind Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle to score four consecutive half centuries in Twenty20 cricket.

Pakistan were in immediate trouble after being sent into bat and were four for 22 in the sixth over as Southee led a dismantling of the Pakistan top order.

By the 15th over, Pakistan were seven for 53 and in danger of falling short of their current lowest score of 74 against Australia six years ago, when Babar Khan (41) and Hasan Ali (23) boosted the total with a 30-run partnership.

Southee finished with the best New Zealand figures of three for 13 while Seth Rance took three for 26.

This was not a T20 standard pitch at all. But looks like Kiwi jokers would rather prepare bouncy wickets to dismantle Pakistani mindset rather than get a good T20 cricket. This is their strategy from the start . Sometimes really wish a strong Pakistan board would've arm-twisted these oceania jokes to prepare batting wickets by themselves.

Hasan bowling is going down and Amir was as pathetic as ever. Rumman bowled better than both of them. They missed playing Yamin. Again the top half collapsed, nothing great from Babar Azam innings kept giving strike to tailender rather than take up responsibility. Pakistani team piled on the dots. The wicket was not suited for there game and they were frustrated by NZ losers swinging on a bowling wicket. Umar Amin dropped a crucial chance on the boundary from where Pakistan could'nt come back.

Its getting worse.

Cannot wait for the team to get out of this country. The lack of batting firepower is getting exposed time and again.

I actually completely forgot that Pakistan played today. Seems like I didn't miss much.

This Pakistani team has played one practice match, 5 ODI's and one T-20 not to mention the countless practice and net sessions they have had. The excuse of playing in unfamiliar conditions is unacceptable now.

A T20i wicket around the world are standardized pitches where bowl is'nt swinging in the 20th over by the likes of Munro. Pakistan does'nt have batsmen who would take quick singles and 2s. New Zealand losers made a pitch to dismantle the already weak top 3 and affect their psychology so that they don't play their brand of cricket.

The pitch has no bearing whatsoever on the swing. 4 of the 5 ODI pitches were roads and you guys still couldnt bat on them.

If the NZ pitches are called roads than WACA [Perth] should be regarded as a freeway also.

Have watched NZ conditions since the 1992/93 tour, the pitches have more bounce than before.

Have been quite vocal and critical of Pakistani batsmen and them doing badly, however New Zealand made intentionally difficult more bouncy wickets for Pakistanis to fail. They repeated their tactics from Indians touring them in 2014. Even on a tough slow wicket in Dunedin the bounce was variabel and quite high. The only good pitch in the series was in the last odi where Pakistan was somehow competitive where the pitch was closer to the Champions Trophy pitch standard.

And?

Home teams aren't obliged to give us pitches that suit us...

Agreed that the pitch for the last T20 wasn't ideal, though, but that's more from an entertainment point of view as T20s are supposed to be good to watch and this match wasn't.

Swing bowling depends a lot on the pitch conditions.
Soft surface [pitches] cos less wearing off for the ball, keeps the shine on the bowl due to which swing bowling can happen for the greater time Munro bowled 20th over and the bowl Azam hit a six on, the bowl outswung away from him into half volley. Such conditions are not seen in a T20 anywhere.
Hasan Ali was seen bowling reverse swing in 3rd odi Dunedin as the scrappy slow pitch condition allowed the wearing of the ball.

All i see is a lot of excuses and crying.

NZC has made a concious effort to make the majority of the limited overs pitches harder over the past decade or so because it promotes better batting conditions. It has nothing to do with Pakistan tourning at all its just the way we want the pitches. You still get the odd slow wicket around like wellington but that can happen with drop ins

Of course our test pitches are usually green but thats a different story entirely.

Swing in the 20th over is not unsual at all with a guy bowling mid 110s. Would happen on any type of pitch in NZ.
