Alzarri Joseph's mum died and he is forced ( through his loyalty to the team ) to carry on. In these exceptional circumstances teams should be allowed a Sub. It should be a like for like replacement so a fast bowler for a fast bowler.

Absolutely, ICC like to tout spirit of cricket in every opportunity they get but when something tragic like this happen they don't have any method to deal with this, remember Test matches are 5 day long so they should allow substitutions in special circumstances.

Reminds me of Kohli who produced a match saving innings after his father died in his arms. He was 40 not out overnight. Next morning he had to go save his team.

As long as both captains agree then the rule should be changed straight away. This is cruel on the lad and makes a mockery of cricket.

Sorry to hear of his loss.

We have had situations where players have left the field in case of a family member's demise - Gambhir vs England in Ahmedabad 2012 comes to mind. So not sure why Alzarri Joseph is still out there?

Admittedly though, we played with 10 people.

I think if a bowler gets injured in a test , a sub should be allowed.

You have to admire the toughness of Joseph- performing well in these circumstances.

On the SL player was hit yesterday my 7 yr old said that that Australia must forfeit a player too just so it is fair. Alternatively you can have a subs

definitely. This is ridicilous. Imagine loosing your loved one, instead of mouring, you have to play 4 more days. What kind of rule is this? Spirit of the game my ****.

Because a physio will usually say they can't.

Rugby and cricket aren't the same sport.

Players can fake injuries and that's the reason it can't be allowed. Exceptional circumstances are what Joseph faced and that's the only time I would allow subs.
