Huh, isn’t he the same person in news fot anti-france thingy? Doesnt look that old

This guy was leading rallies until yesterday and now he is dead. Good job Pakistan.

Cause of death is unknown at this point. I'd wager it might be corona since he was leading rallies just a couple of days ago.

Shouldn't talk ill about a dead person but with him gone and Hafeez sentenced to jail, improved security and foreign investment,Pakistan is defn going to see so much progress in next 10 years!

Quick and efficient termination of an anti-state actor.

He wanted to nuke India lol so should be happy.

Ofcourse no one dying should be celebrated but if he is dead it shouldn’t discount the fact that he really is the worst and is himself alone responsible for radicalizing the country to a huge extent. No ruler be it Imran khan or Nawaz sharif were extreme enough for his ideology Eventhough they would all be pandering to him.

He was a hate preacher. Hafeez bhai will not see inside of a jail.

What’s wrong with you guys? His family said he died cause he had a high fever for a few days. It could possibly be due to covid.

I was not a fan of the guy but let’s not make a joke of someone’s death by crazy speculation

Isn’t death from corona usually an Elongated process

My sister in law is a nurse in Canada manning the covid ward in a hospital she tells often there are cases where a person would walk in with mild symptoms and be pronounced dead in less than six hours. There is no 'one size fits all' to corona.

Wooooow. Really.

Millions of differences with him, but he always spoke for the honor of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)! May Allah have mercy upon his soul and grant him the highest rank in Jannah ameen.🙏
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّ إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ

May the deceased rest in peace. His life is now for God alone to judge.

He preached hatred of the other. Preached death

Well said. He has to account for his sins and good deeds infront of Allah now. Folks should refrain from speaking ill of the dead.

Very true.

None of us is truly sin free in that sense.

Chill out indian trolls. Even during the speech few days ago he said he is very sick and wasn't suppose to come and deliver the speech. Some said he was suffering from cancer, some said he had covid. God knows!

Not confirmed but as per my information from Lahore, died of Cornona which he believed could not touched him.

He is dead now, I can't say I'm happy with that, I would say RIP, but

He was a trouble maker with no purpose, liked to create trouble. Hope things will get better to some extend after his death.

Absolutely, some patients with underlying conditions die very quickly from Cornona, .

Isn’t death from corona usually an Elongated process

Active looking Covid Patients, who walked in to hospitals on their first ever visit, have died while waiting for their turn (within hardly an hour). This is what we were experiencing in my hospital during June.

Seems he may be alive!

Seeing reports on Twitter.

They are saying he suddenly started breathing again. What is happening haha

His daughter just retweeted a tweet that he has passed away. I'm sure these party spokespersons/media folks don't know more than the PM and the daughter of the deceased.

Let the man leave in peace

This is just ridiculous. Look at the supporters and the language they are using. Even the camera fell down due to their unhinged and unwarranted excitement.

Prayers for his health if he's alive.
But we have seen it before. Announcements get delayed to diffuse the reaction.

I agree. As mentioned above his daughter has confirmed he has passed away. This drama by supporters just makes a mockery of the deceased. I pray better sense prevails.

Thank God he was not arrested after recent Dharna. Had he died in custody, there would have been massive unrest like we saw after Benazir death.

Died with the blood of innocent people on his hands.

And he will never now be held accountable.

Good riddance. A guy who damaged the social fabric of our society by radicalising the youth, nonsense which has already led to 70k deaths in our country. With his tens of thousands of followers recently was marching up and down bashing Shias.

Absolutely do no feel sorry for him, his family sure.

Badniyaat Nooras and the mafia already trying to hype up the crowds with conspiracy theories for the Janaza tomorrow.

Unless you were close to him, or a supporter; you don't feel anything either. Which makes what you say essentially token words you are programmed to say.

Not a fan of what he said n did when he was alive

If he really loved the prophet he wouldnt have spouted so much hate n encouraged such violence

That’s a no true Scotsman fallacy.

Rizvi is gone but his ideology has brainwashed millions of Pakistanis. He is responsible for the killings of innocent. His aim was to rid Pakistan of Hindus, Christians and Ahmedis.

It's hard to believe that he doesn't have successors waiting in the wings. His party won the fourth largest votes in the last election and its not going anywhere

Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Allama Khadim Hussain Rizvi has died in Lahore at the age of 54, his political party confirmed on Thursday night.

The cause of his demise wasn't immediately clear.

According to the party’s spokesperson, Hamza, the TLP chief had been experiencing difficulty in breathing and was running a fever since yesterday.

The spokesperson added that Rizvi was at his madressah on Multan Road when his condition deteriorated on Thursday evening. He was subsequently rushed to the Farooq Hospital in Iqbal Town, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Rizvi was later taken to Sheikh Zayed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead, said Saad Rizvi, son of Khadim Hussain Rizvi.

Some time later, social media was abuzz with reports that Rizvi was still alive and had only been unconscious for a while.

When contacted to verify the reports, another TLP spokesperson, Ibn-e-Ismail, said that Rizvi had started breathing again and they had summoned an ambulance, but the paramedic staff pronounced him dead when they checked him.

A large number of TLP supporters started gathering at his residence in the Grand Battery Stop area on Multan Road.

Pir Aijaz Ashrafi, a senior leader of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA), in a statement said the timings of his funeral prayers will be announced later.

Rizvi is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.

The firebrand cleric made his last public appearance at a sit-in staged by thousands of TLP followers at Islamabad's Faizabad interchange to protest the publication of blasphemous caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) in France.

The group had decided to end the sit-in on Monday after successful negotiations with the government.

Prime Minister Imran Khan offered condolences on his demise.

Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri also expressed grief and sorrow on the TLP chief's death. He said "Pakistan has lost a respected religious scholar and true admirer of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)", adding that Rizvi's services for Islam will be remembered for long.

In a tweet, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq expressed shock and grief over Rizvi's sudden demise, saying his party shared the sorrow of his family members and TLP workers.

Who was Khadim Hussain Rizvi?
Born in 1966 in the Pindi Gheb area of Attock district, Punjab, Rizvi was said to be an introvert who shied away from talking about his personal life even among his close circles, let alone with media personnel. A Hafiz-e-Quran and Sheikh-ul-Hadith, Rizvi used to deliver Friday sermons at Lahore’s Pir Makki Masjid, located near Daata Darbar, during his time in the Punjab Auqaf Department.

Rizvi had been confined to a wheelchair since 2006 ever since an accident near Gujranwala. Contrary to rumours, Rizvi was injured because the driver of his vehicle fell asleep while driving from Rawalpindi to Lahore.

Many mistook him as a Shia because of his last name, but in truth, he was a staunch follower of Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi, the 19th-century founder of the Barelvi sect.

'Blasphemy activist'
In January 2016, Rizvi organised a rally in Lahore for the release of death-row convict Mumtaz Qadri at the mausoleum of Allama Mohammad Iqbal, without obtaining official permission. As a result, the Lahore police dispersed the crowd with the use of water cannons and baton charges.

Later in the year, in March, after the government hanged Mumtaz Qadri, who was convicted of killing then-Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer, Rizvi along with some other Barelvi groups led a march to D-Chowk opposite the parliament in Islamabad. Marked by violence, the four-day-long sit-in came to an end after Owais Noorani, son of the founder of Jamiat Ulema Pakistan (JUP), late Shah Ahmed Noorani, brokered a truce.

In his last speech before dispersing from D-Chowk, Rizvi announced he would counter the then-ruling PML-N at every forum. It was only later on that he established his party, TLYRA, and applied for registration from the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Rizvi considered himself among the protectors of Khatm-i-Nabuwat and Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code, which is part of Pakistan's blasphemy laws.

His persistent championing of the matter earned him the nickname of “blasphemy activist” in religious circles.

Rizvi’s first entry into mainstream politics was in the by-elections of NA-120, which fell vacant after the disqualification of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif. Since his party wasn’t registered at the time, he pushed his weight behind an independent candidate named Sheikh Azhar Hussain Rizvi. The TLYRA-backed Shiekh Rizvi bagged 7,130 votes in the elections held on September 17, 2017.

The first election contested by Rizvi’s party under the TLYRA banner was in NA-4 Peshawar, held on October 26, 2017. TLYRA candidate Dr Muhammad Ahafique Ameeni bagged 9,935 votes.

In October 2017, Rizvi led the 20-day sit-in at Islamabad's Faizabad interchange against the modification to the Khatm-i-Nabuwwat oath. The sit-in in the capital had culminated with the signing of the Faizabad agreement — seen as a complete surrender by the state — which was brokered by the army.

Aasia Bibi protests
Rizvi was among the most prominent leaders to have led the violent three-day protests across the country against the acquittal of Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman whose blasphemy conviction was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2018.

Weeks later, he was arrested from his seminary in Lahore on Nov 24, 2018, after refusing to call off a protest sit-in that threatened to close down the capital.

He was booked on sedition and terrorism charges for incendiary speeches against the state and for inciting violence in the country during the protests.

Rizvi was eventually released on bail six months later in May 2019, against surety bonds worth Rs0.5 million.

He is still effecting people's lives...

LAHORE: Traffic in Lahore is being diverted away from Sultan Road as the city's traffic police prepare for the big crowd expected for the funeral of TLP chief Maulana Khadim Hussain Rizvi who passed away on Thursday.

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Hammad Abid said additional force has been deployed on Multan Road to manage the flow of traffic.

He said special arrangements have been made from Scheme Morr to the orphanage chowk.

The road has been closed on both sides of the Scheme Morr chowk, the CTO said, adding that traffic from these areas is being diverted to alternative routes.

The TLP chief had breathed his last Thursday night. He was unwell since the last few days, confirmed family sources and had complained about the fever as he led a protest at the Faizabad Interchange a few days ago.

Islamabad, Pakistan – Hardline Pakistani religious leader Khadim Hussain Rizvi, who rose to prominence in the South Asian nation by campaigning on the issue of “blasphemy” against Islam, has died in the eastern city of Lahore, his party says.

Far-right Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) party founded by Rizvi was behind the recent protests against France over the Prophet Muhammad’s cartoons.

Rizvi, 54, appeared to have died of natural causes after suffering an illness over the last week, but the exact cause of his death on Thursday night was not yet clear, said Pir Ijaz Ashrafi, a senior leader of TLP party.

“When he came to the protest sit-in, he was not feeling well at that time as well,” Ashrafi told Al Jazeera by telephone referring to anti-government protest, where hundreds of TLP supporters clashed with police and blocked a major highway into the capital Islamabad this week. “He stayed unwell for a few days after that. We were not able to ascertain what it was.”

The protest was against the French government, and remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron that defended the “right to blaspheme” under free speech rights, after a French teacher was beheaded by a teenager for displaying caricatures of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad in a class on freedom of speech last month.

Protesters demanded Pakistan expel the French ambassador and cut diplomatic ties with the European country. The demonstration dispersed after government ministers signed an agreement with TLP leaders to boycott French goods and consider expelling the ambassador.

Rizvi addressed the protesters at the demonstration in Islamabad several times but did not remain on-site for the duration of the protest.

He was in Lahore when his condition deteriorated on Thursday evening, Ashrafi said. The TLP founder had been confined to a wheelchair since 2006 after a traffic accident near the town of Gujranwala left him unable to walk.

“He was feeling a bit better, he was eating as well. But in the evening, he once again deteriorated and we brought him to the hospital [where he was pronounced dead],” he said.

Rizvi’s funeral will be held at a national monument in Lahore on Saturday and is expected to draw crowds of thousands.

Emotive religious issue
Known for his powerful, aggressive oratory, Rizvi’s preaching focused on the honour of the prophet, and his Barelvi school of thought’s teachings that it was the duty of Muslims to protect that honour.

Blasphemy is a sensitive subject in Pakistan, where insulting the prophet carries a mandatory death penalty. Increasingly, blasphemy allegations have led to targeted attacks or mob violence, resulting in more than 77 killings since 1990, according to an Al Jazeera tally.

Rizvi first came to prominence in 2010, when he quit his government job as a preacher in protest against remarks by then Punjab governor Salman Taseer calling for reforms to the strict blasphemy laws.

Taseer was later murdered by his bodyguard, Mumtaz Qadri, in January 2011, in the country’s most high-profile blasphemy-related murder. Two months later, federal minister Shahbaz Bhatti was murdered by Taliban gunmen for advocating the same reforms.

After quitting his job, Rizvi travelled across Punjab province, Pakistan’s most populous, preaching in defence of the blasphemy laws and calling on followers to root out “blasphemy” wherever they saw it.

One of his TLP’s most common rallying cries called for blasphemers to be put to death. “There is only one punishment for those who insult the Prophet, to cut their heads from their bodies,” runs the slogan.

Gradually growing his base of power, Rizvi reached national prominence when he led thousands of TLP protesters in a demonstration against the then-government of Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party over a minor change in words to an electoral oath.

National prominence
Rizvi contended that the change, which omitted a clause that excluded those of the Ahmadi sect, amounted to blasphemy, and thousands of his supporters blocked a highway into the capital Islamabad for three weeks over the issue.

Demonstrators ultimately dispersed after securing the resignation of then-Law Minister Zahid Hamid over the issue. A TLP supporter later shot and wounded then-Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal in 2018.

In 2018, competing in elections for the first time, the TLP won three provincial assembly seats. Despite the modest return, the TLP established itself as a political force to be reckoned with, securing the fourth-highest number of votes from across the country for a single party, outperforming several established political parties.

He once again blockaded the Pakistani capital alongside thousands of supporters in November 2018 in protest against the acquittal of Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman who was accused of blasphemy and spent eight years on death row before the Supreme Court exonerated her.

That protest ended after the government signed a deal with TLP leaders to bar Bibi from leaving the country. She was ultimately allowed to leave in May 2019 and sought political asylum in France in February this year.

Rizvi was subsequently charged with sedition by Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government and arrested by authorities in December 2018. Khan had earlier supported Rizvi’s 2017 anti-government demonstrations against political rival Sharif.

He spent six months in jail before a Lahore court granted him bail and he returned to lead the TLP.

Party leaders say consultations will be held following Rizvi’s funeral on Saturday to determine his successor.

Pakistani PM Khan and army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa both expressed public condolences on Rizvi’s passing.
