What's new

To the Western Muslims, are you big on Halal? Ever get tempted by a tasty KFC crispy chicken wing?

Fried chicken done right is crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It’s that crispy and tender combo in one bite which makes it delightful and refreshing. As for how they do the spicy chicken also called “hot”chicken here in Nashville, there is cayenne pepper, paprika, salt, ground pepper, garlic powder and brown sugar mixed in eggs and milk and fried till it’s well cooked from inside but still not over cooked to loose it’s juiciness and crispy and flaky on the outside. Its served over a piece of white bread and topped with pickles. The heat levels go from mild to very hot, I usually get hot, which is in the middle and it’s still pretty hot.

If you ever visit, you will see long lines outside each well known hot chicken establishment. It’s served hot and you are supposed to eat it while steam is still coming off the beautiful brown cooked to perfection bird in front of you. As one takes their first bite, the mixture of hot and spicy, of crispy and tender, of pleasure and pain makes one dizzy for a second. The eating experience can look like punishment to some, eyes welling up, snot rolling down your nose, sweat dripping off your forehead. After a first few bites you are on a mission to finish it off as fast as you can, both in a hurry to end this practice in sadism and also to savor the meat before it gets cold. The spice hitting your tongue, folkowed by your throat and then making its way down your stomach into your blood stream feels like a steam engine roaring inside of you full speed ahead. The feeling of pain crossing into pleasure and ultimately ecstasy comes over you as you take your last bite and you are left wrecked, exhausted and somewhat comatose at the end. It’s why people keep coming for more like disciples of a cult. I’m happy to count myself as one of the followers as well.

Ok thanks, you have changed my mind about Fried Chicken. Great read :)

I actually prefer Peri Peri instead of Fried Chicken. What are you views on it?

I will always eat halal when it is available and on rare occasions when it is not then may opt for alternatives but never eat the filthy pig or consume alcohol. Obviously there will be various sheikhs that will deem such behaviour to be inappropriate and am willing to accept that because quiet frankly I just don't care as much as I use to :yk I really don't think god does either, but that's just my own view.

Do you guys have Popeye's chicken in UK? It's quite popular here and halal as well and imo several times better than KFC.

Also, people are calling out the Yanks for their haram behaviours but halal is not as available in the states compared to the UK or a muslim country like Pakistan. And there are sheikhs who have provided them guidance on what is acceptable in such instances to and we shouldn't really be judging them anyway when we're not in their shoes. Now don't tell me they should give up meat altogether and become vegans when you consume meat like dogs every day and can't live without it, it's easy for you to tell them to give up the foods which are more available to you in the halal format. The whole concept of Halal is so funny, anyone having issues with their food can come to me; I will bless it for you by reciting God's and then passing it back for your enjoyment :afridi I agree that the animal should be killed humanely though that is very important and most countries regulate this but the poor thing is going to die either way so who cares.

KFC is from Kentucky and Popeye's is from Louisiana, both southern states but by God those rednecks know how to make a good chicken :yk

I have had Peri Peri but it was probably of commercial quality. Waiting to try it at a good African restaurant. It is healthier for sure and tasty as well.

Credit goes to African Americans.

Actually credit goes to living under poverty. During slavery and even afterwards, African Americans and poor Southern Whites learned that frying any food whether vegetables or meat can pack extra calories to it hence one can get more mileage out if it. Whether its fried steak, fried onions, fried green tomatoes, fried okra, fried pickles or fried corn bread. Since, South has been relatively poor, the tradition of frying is more common here.

Poverty ---> Fried food --> Obesity ---> Health issues ---> Poverty.

Sadly its a vicious cycle.

It's actually Portuguese.

Yes, its called Piri Piri from the Swahili word pepper. The dish was created in Angola and Mozambique when Portuguese settlers arrived with chili peppers. The cultivar developed in southeastern Africa and was spread by the Portuguese to their Indian territories of Gujarat and Goa. Piri Piri chili pepper is originally descended from South American cultivars, but piri piri has grown in the wild in Africa for centuries and is now cultivated commercially in Zambia and other African nations.

I do care what I eat because I like to look good. I dont want to shower put soap on me feeling rubber but only metal. :) Thousands of chickens are caged tightly, most have broken bones and are injected before killed, friend and made into cheap food for customers. I did have a KFC in Ramadan one night, it put me off for life now.

Not too big on it, to be very honest. I'm not a big fan of fish and I don't mind having a sandwich or Burger every now and then. As far as I know, living in Pakistan, you're not even guaranteed if you're eating chicken to begin with, let alone it being halal or Haram (by way of slaughtering). Therefore, in the Western world, at least there is guarantee of knowing what you're eating.

Luckily we have a halal KFC within about 10-15 minutes driving distance. Usually go for the zinger burger meal.

Yeah but you say that as if people eat junk food every day, there are elite fighters who have a cheeky bite every now and then you must be something else :)) And lol am sure slaughter houses in our very own city treat the same kukar fried or non fried with more izzat then their own parents :yk3

I used to watch a program called Man vs Food where they used to tour all the food joints across America, and one theme which stood out was the fried chicken restaurants which litter southern USA,. I do feel a bit envious because we don't really have that culture here, all the fried chicken huts are very generic and samey. Americans do the casual eating scene much better, although there are some enterprising restaurateurs trying to recreate it here now.

Yes we do fast food better than anyone else, however this distinction is a double edged sword as I’ve described earlier. I don’t know if you read my reply to KingKhan earlier in this thread about my love for Nashville’s hot chicken. If you ever visit US, try to hop over here to try the local delicacy. I’ve learned that BA has recently started direct flights from London to Nashville. I’m planning a visit to the Queen myself, hopefully soon.
