"Told the captain my performances are such that I don't deserve to be in the team": Mohammad Rizwan

Rizwan speaking in a presser today:

"It is true that I talked about playing Sarfaraz Ahmed. I went to Saqlain bhai myself. They were talking about giving me a rest. I said don't say the words of rest for me. I first told this to the head coach, then the captain was near the ground, I also told the captain that my performance is not such that I deserve to play in the team"

"Then some players told me that you are not scoring a fifty, but you are scoring. Apart from that, you are a wicketkeeper too. But I declined because I felt I was not deserving. Saifi bhai [Sarfaraz Ahmed] was performing well, and then when he saved the matches with his performances"

Who are you to suggest that? Team Management and selectors are yr old babies taking bottled milk??? there is fine line between players power and management power who takes decision for the betterment of Pakistan.

He’s chatting nonsense

I’ll write a detailed response in a bit. Right now I’m enjoying a party

Dont worry about writing a detailed response, we know your views on King Rizzu lol

Riz is the ultimate team man. He is what they call a diamond geezer and its the type of thing he would do. And also there is no point lying as Saqi could easily tell another story and Riz would look foolish. He needed this rest/dropping because it gave him the competition he thrives on. Sarfi is the man in possession and Riz has to get his mojo back and displace him. A win win for the team

Not many players around who would hold their hands up and ask to be dropped.

Absolute lies

He knew the writing was on the wall as soon as Afridi intervened through Najam Sethi.

He didn’t want to be embarrassed at being dropped unceremoniously so he took a couple of his Freinds and made a public show asking to be dropped.

This way, he can now tell the world that he wouldn’t have been dropped but he is so great so he asked to let someone else play

He is also implying that no matter how rubbish he plays, the management will not drop him unless he asks.

Am I making this up or this is how it unfolded?

Why doesn’t this fraud ask to be dropped or get his number changed in T20 especially knowing how he is holding us back?

Chal Rizwan do us a favour and make way for Sarfaraz in the ODI side

You have been garbage in the middle for us and we need a proper player of spin for the World Cup.

Let the management know that you are a great man and move out of the way

Agreed, particularly the part about Saqi. Not that i'd expect Rizwan to lie publically.

Rizwan was not performing in tests and he wanted to give himself a kick. It's worked for him in the past. Being benched for Chadwick Walton must have been a tough period but that struggle contributed to make him the world recognised batsman that he is today.

It's a very brave decision to throw yourself back into the fire. Rizwan knows himself though and he will come out of it as a better cricketer.

Rizwan is garbage? You are a better poster than that.

This Sarfaraz mania is only here for jumma jumma ath din. He has already lost us the NZ test due to his poor keeping anyway.

I said he has been garbage in ODI

Where am I wrong?

Just read through all the posts on this thread. I'm astonished how gullible some people really are.

Coping mechanism

Rizwan apparently is undroppable and he decides when he will be dropped.

Sarfaraz revealed to the media that it was Afridi who specifically called and told him that he will be playing the first Test v NZ. Afridi had to go and haggle Sarfaraz into the side with Saqlain and Afridi. They were never thinking of dropping Rizwan. Especially with Ramiz holding their back

Did we lose against New Zealand in test series like we did against England. What you been watching we drew.
And what about the odi series against New Zealand we lost and Rizwan missed crucial chances that cost us. But it's Rizwan so don't matter lol

Yes

They keep sticking their head in the sand for Rizwan but will come out to lynch Sarfaraz

Don’t worry. I will keep reminding them of the double standards.

Only Rizwan can make himself a hero even when he's dropped :)))

Really getting sick of this uber-patriotic persona that he's constantly trying to push.

A poor decision by Rizwan, those dropped catches cost us the matches, had Rizwan been there we would had won. His keeping is better than Sarfraz's

He will say the same nonsense when he gets dropped from the ODI side as well.

Maybe Babar can confirm this?

Of course he will confirm it. Saqlain too

But this isn’t heroism by Rizwan. He knew he was getting dropped because of new regime.

Rizwan is undeserving of an ODI spot too. Why doesn’t he put country first and ask to be dropped?

Hero as a player.

Hero when dropped.

Ultimate man.

Hate this.

Pakistani players have lost all fire.

To them: Being humble > results on the field.

The best players try to fight and fight - until they are dropped if not performing. Not give up.

This self awareness thing is hugely disappointing.

Yeah like we won our 3 Test matches at home against England and defended our 70 year unbeaten at home v England record with Rizwan as the keeper

While it looks good on face value and that he thought about team first but, its not his job to judge who is deserving and who is not unless he wasnt fit or something. Management is there to make such decisions, yes he was VC but still he cant make calls for himself.

Such things should be avoided if we want full professionalism from the players and the team. If he had to do this then its should not have been made public now.

Hopefully KL Rahul has a similar realization and asks the team management to drop him for good

Think of it like this,

-Rizwan made a very extreme statement during the England T20i series about God disgracing players who are not playing sincerely for Pakistan, and also disgracing those who are criticising him or Babar if they are not doing it for the sake of Pakistan.

+Since this extreme statement, Rizwan lost the final of the England T20i series, had an abysmal tour down under for the World Cup and has been atrocious in Pakistan’s 3-0 defeat. It was also extended into the 2-1 defeat at home v NZ.

Rizwan knows that he crossed the line when he took matters to extreme because of him being criticised on cricket and nothing personal by the fans and cricketers. He knows inside that he is suffering since. He is embarrassed to face the world after being dropped for Sarfaraz and further humiliated because Sarfaraz had a dream comeback, and more questions were raised at why was Rizwan ever preferred.

Rizwan just isn’t learning. Sometimes it’s better to just say nothing. Unfortunately, this is too hard for him.

I also feel a sense of Drama in this guy’s antics.
He just doesn’t feel genuine.

And he is definitely an attention seeker.

Tbh mate he can be whatever he wants as a person. Not everyone is going to be genuine, or perfect. Not everyone is going to be likeable or dislikable for how good or bad they are. That’s just life and people.

However, there are some lines you just shouldn’t cross. IMO and humble opinion, you should never speak on behalf of what will happen to others (Zillat/Izzat) with pure conviction because that matter is entirely in the hands of God. We don’t know who will be Zaleel or Muazaz, and we most certainly should not announce it in front of millions of people. These are extremely delicate matters and we are better off not saying things publicly that might upset the creator.

That’s just my honest view on this. People are allowed to differ with it and I would appreciate their views.

Am I myself being hypocritical on the matter of Rizwan? Maybe I am, maybe I am not. My criticism of him is 75% on cricket. 25% is the politics that are involved behind his selection in the team. I am not sure that I have ever wanted this guy to be disgraced/Zaleel. That’s a very, very strong sentiment to have for someone. It’s a sentiment you would have for a person that has caused you serious pain on a personal level. Rizwan never did annoy me on a personal level. I think he is a lovely person and a good human being.

This means he considers himself a mediocre player who can't make it to the playing XI of a team which can't win at home.

Imagine rizwan proclaiming loudly in the team meeting:

"I'm the ultimate arbitrator of my career. Decider of my own destiny. You will drop me for now. When I feel ready, you shall select me again!"

Then leaving the room saying, "I have spoken".

:afridi

I'm a big fan of Rizwan's. He plays his heart out and has been one of the better wicket keepers since the Moin/Rashid era. He's won us plenty of games too.

But this statement of his should be criticized. The only reason in my opinion to make this public statement is to earn some points with fans and media. Even if it's true, why what other purpose is there for saying this to the media? It tarnishes his image as a humble and selfless person. There's a few things he's said in the past that also points in that direction. It really does make me think that he's quite selfish and tries to take the limelight every possible chance he gets (sometimes away from his teammates) so that he stays on 'top' of the management's minds. He's still the best LOI keeper/bat we have, but wish someone would talk some sense into him.

All part of the dramaybaazi and how he's always trying to make himself some sort of martyr fighting selflessly for the cause and upholding his self righteous and pious image.
