Top 3 stand out commentators from the on-going ICC Cricket World Cup

Ian Bishop,Nasser Hussain, Michael Atherton
There should be a thread for the worst commentators as well.
There are so many contenders for that
Ramos,Majrekar(Ramiz Version II),Wasim Akram,Ganguly, Michael Clarke,Athar Ali Khan....

Less of a commentator (unless County Circuit) but I enjoy Rob Key's punditry too.

LOL Did Wasim Akram just say 'Joel Wilson standing in his sixty-oneth ODI'

Ha Ha! Sixty-Oneth!

For me Nasser Hussain has been exceptional but he usually is. I like Pammie aswell he's decent. The final one for me has to be Brendon McCullum even though Athers has been good as well but Baz has been a breathe of fresh air. Most of the sub continent commentators bar Sanga and Ganguly have been terrible.

Jeremy Coney really should be doing TV commentary.

Atherton and Nasser have been their usual (excellent) selves.

Mark Nicholas, Ian Bishop and McCullum have been excellent.

Do you mean ATHAR Ali of us? :abbas1

Like: Nasser (dry & witty sarcasm) , Holding (Unafraid), Wasim (Insightful)

I have always like Ramiz Raja for some reason, maybe because he does tend to go easy on India and goes pretty hard at Pakistan which is sometimes funny

Hate:
Harsha Bhogle: Talks fluff most of the time and keeps making snide remarks at other commentators. Keeps deflecting to other topics most of the time and is obsessed with somehow filling air-time

Manjrekar: Can hardly get the words out of his mouth. Feels like he is choking and talking at the same time which makes me cringe. Once he picks up a stat the he likes for India, he keeps beating the drum about it and keeps going on and on and on....the other commentator is literally ready to jump out of the balcony

My favorite has always been boycott though

Where is Holding? I have not heard him since his scathing attack on the umpires.

For me, definitely say Shaun Pollock, Athers as always and good old Bazza

Missing Bumble.

He's unique. Brings fun and sarcasm to commentary.

Possible the best piece of TV commentary this in many years...

Manjrekar and Bhogle are Bollywood commentators. Actually I find most commentators bad including Waz and Ramiz.

Atherton has some class.

Nasser, Athers and Bishop.

This is what you call the dream team.

Clarke, Naseer, Nicholos are the ones I am finding to be pretty good this WC.

Would have loved to see KP in the panel along with Bumble.

Ian Bishop, Nasser Hussain and Isa Guha.

The female commentators in this world cup have been brilliant - Mel Jones and Isa Guha.

Haven't heard McCullum yet, hopefully I do tonight.

Nasser & Atherton are always good & have just kept on delivering.

Bishop's measured, thoughtful approach & Holding's honest, fearless insights are very, very valuable. We'll miss Holding when he is gone & commentators allow themselves to be told what to say.

Isa Guha I have never had the chance to hear before this tournament and has impressed me whenever she has been on.

Wasim, Ramiz, Manjrekar, Clarke, Slater & Nicholas are commies I do not enjoy at all. Chummy, yes men types.

I'm not a huge fan of Sangakkara on commentary but I do enjoy listening to him when he's talking about technical aspects of batting.

Enjoyed Mikey Holding sparring with some of the Indian comms yesterday and telling them how it is.

Alison Mitchell is a good commentator but I just can't stand these female commentators who are supposed to be experts on men's game like Mel Jones. You would think she took Ambrose and McGrath apart in her days they way she bleats on. They have no clue on how to face 95mph ball from Starc or even and 80 mph ball. They should stick to being experts on the women's game because they have the expertise of that level of cricket. I don't care if people call me sexist but this new nonsense of having women being experts on men's sport just doesn't cut it. Cricket has had female commentators even back in the days there was a very good female West Indian commentator and that is fine.

Having said all that I'm going to contradict it by saying these female experts are better than Harsha Car Crash, Ramiz, Slater, Gavaskar the arrogant and so on.

Ian Bishop stands out for me. On a side note. Just can't stand Guha or what ever ... A male-female combo is just irritating for the ears.

Bishop, Holding and Atherton.

Doul and Nicholas are a pleasure to listen to from just an accent POV.

Sanga is decent as well, but I feel like he talks a bit too much sometimes.

I heard a bit of commentary on Star Sports Hindi and thought it was quite good. Didn't pay enough attention to catch the names of the commentators though.

Bishop, Atherton and Simon doull. Very knowledgeable and provide analysis. Neutral and calm.
Wanna make a point regarding doull, he has an eye for talent. He's always been backing haris Sohail and even in the recent match against NZ, he questioned why haris has warmed the bench for so long. He does his research it seems.
Rameez, Wasim and waqar to a lesser extent have no idea about their players and blab on over no foundation. Can't believe ramiz even called haris 'haris soil'. Should focus on research rather the the thesaurus and the dictionary. Sad state of affairs when these are our best commentators.

Let me tell you about what I have seen during this World Cup and prior to this tournament at the press boxes and in the media lounges.

The likes of Atherton and Hussain you will see them before play reading newspapers, online articles, looking at player stats, asking questions about players and collating information that they intend to use whilst on commentary.

Most of the others before play, you will see sat around chatting rubbish, cracking cheap jokes with their mates and not doing any research about the match, players etc.

That's why your Athertons, Gangulys, Holdings, Hussains are the best commentators and most of the others are painful to listen to.

Ganguly!! Seriously!!!

lol Ganguly is awful. There isn’t a single decent Asian commentator.

Ian Bishop has an incredible voice for commentary.

He had me actually believing Carlos Brathwaite would rescue West Indies from a nearly impossible situation in that runchase vs NZL which has to go down as one of the greatest World Cup matches of all time !

Sounds like Ramiz Raja

2019 WC Comm. Box dream:
Michael Atherton
Ian Bishop
Nasser Hussain
Kumar Sangakkara

Worst Commentators:
Ramiz Raja
Athar Ali Khan
Isa Guha
Sanjay Manjrekar

Ganguly is average, full of highs and lows.

Ganguly still believes there is a player called 'Shekhar' Dhawan playing for India.

Yesterday he was saying Mohammad Shami was very good at death against Bangladesh. I mean, Kuch bhi

Wasim Akram needs to be taken off air asap. Wasim and Waqar are not made for this.

Agree even Aamir and Ramiz are same.
Can someone identify Pakistani commentator from Sharjhah and Independence Cup in 1998. He was best I have listened. Dont remember his name. Was that great Abdul Quadir ???

Whatever one says about Wasim Akram you've got to admire his game reading. The reason he bleats on about field placing is because he can read what the bowler will bowl and not many commies purvey this well enough.

Sourav ganguly is a disgrace! Never stops complimenting indian players, gives very little credit to the oppositin players.
Today, actually said, come on india, you can do this!!
Does he not realise commentators are supposed to be impartial!!
And the way he kept complimenting dhoni, when jadeja was doing all the scoring, was absolutely pathetic!!!!

Indian commentators are absolute trash.

England commentators are absolute class on the other hand.

Particularly, Atherton and Nasser.

If ranked by country, then:

English
NZ
WI
SA
SRL
Aus
Ind
Pak (sorry, Ramiz drags down the rest)
BD

A few Indian commentators and even one of the so-called English commentators really 'losing it' today. Some really awful commentary apert from Ian Smith who I thought did well.

Ganguly was a pure trash to listen today. You have to be neutral when commentating. That’s what you are paid for.

Anyway, English commies are the best in business.

Ganguly, Harsha and Manjraker lost it . Some of the noises they made on the mic was something out of Dudley Zoo.

ICC are ruining the spectacle for fans who have to sit and listen to this garbage.

My Top 3

Athers, Mickey and Pollock.

Others, Bishop, Nasser, Ward

Simon Doul & Ian Bishop are amazing commentators. They do their home works & are very good at reading the game. I will also add Bazz to that list.
Mark nicholas is great at presenting the game. What cricket do miss though is the sheer passion of Bill lawry & Tony greig. they always supported cricket & not teams.

Ian smith!!
Ian smith kept on complimenting dhoni on being a great finisher, when jadeja was doing all the scoring!

Nasser hussein
Michael atherton
Simon doull

In my opinion are the best!
Obviously , the greatest ever was the late, great richie benaud!!

Ganguly was horrible today. Maybe was a little too emotional.

Agree even Aamir and Ramiz are same.

Probably Asif Iqbal. Certainly not Abdul Qadir (unless you are talking about urdu/hindi commentary).

Asif iqbal was a great commentator, but would get very argumentative with the english commentators, when the wrong/bias decisions were given against pakistan. This was a time before dls and when england and pak were going through a very bad period in cricketing terms!

Ian Smith (very good this time)
Mark Nicholas(?)
Ian Bishop (class as always)
Simon Doull

Disappointed by Nasser Hussain this time. He keeps crying about England’s long batting line-up.

Ian Smith is great.

He's just like a fan on commentary.

Sticks to basics, doesn't need fancy words, just says it how it is.

:salute

Harsha Bhogle has never been a good commentator.

The best would be Nasser Hussain, Simon Doull, Ian Bishop and David Lloyd.

After yesterday it's clearly now, for me at least, Simon Doull, Bishop and Harsha.

I think we should have the three worst commentators of the world cup thread too, that may have more replies :))

I wonder if Holding got kicked off his commentary stint after what he said about the ICC and the umpires.

Would be a shame if he did. He was only saying what many thought at the time.

My top four:

1) Ian Smith

2) Michael Atherton

3) Ian Bishop

Nasser Hussein just misses out this time.
