Thought I'd add this to the " Top 3 stand out commentators from the on-going ICC Cricket World Cup" thread.

For me the worst have been :

1. Isa Guha = Awful and rather basic

2. Ganguly = What a boring and monotonous man to listen to.

3. Ramiz Raja and Athar Ali Khan [I couldn't split them] = Why do this to us? Why ICC, WHY?

Surely you got to have Wasim Akram in top 3 worst comms.

Ramiz Raja is our best guys.

The worst commentators were all Indians, so it's just a case of me picking the 3 worst:

1. Isa Guha - given too much airtime. Should become an IPL cheerleader, as her stock commentary lines all seem to revolve around this tournament.

2. Sourav Ganguly - couldn't hide his emotions during the NZ semi-final. If you didn't recognise the voice or the face, you would think Sky have picked a blue tinted fan from the crowd who's been given a free reign in the comm. box.

3. Sanjay Manjrekar - refer to Jadeja's tweet and I couldn't stand his blatant region based agenda.

Indians produce fine players and have an amazing team, but your commentators and umpires just need to keep away from the game. Also the massive representation of Indian fans in the final was the only downer in yesterday's epic final.

Wasim Akram. His commentary consists of either "he is the best FIELD-DUH in the team" or reading all the stats on the screen.

Athar Ali Khan - zone out whenever he speaks

Ramiz Raja - kept wittering on about how Pakistan should've attempted an impossible task of getting 400+ on a slow Lord's track.

Slats- he’s so biased towards Australia. I’m pretty sure he admitted to being so v SA. He also gets on my nerves. I hope they stick to Clarke for the Ashes.

Manjrekar - Biased towards India, barely provides insight. Talks a load of rubbish. I remember in the Afghanistan v England game he went on a tangent about trams on roads and lateral movement.

Jeremy Coney - Heard him a lot on TMS and he was very unprofessional with the way he commentated NZ games. Didn’t even care for England winning and seriously said that the cup should be shared. Thank god he’s only a guest commentator...

Honourable mentions - Ganguly, Mel Jones, Athar Ali Khan

Isa Guha, Wasim, Ganguly, Manjrekar, Slater and Athar.

All these were so bad that they made Rameez sound tolerable.

1. Wasim Akram- Him and Waqar Younis are shoved down our throats with poor English and basic analysis, zero entertainment qualities. Would much rather prefer Shoaib Akhtar to have a go, he is an nutter but he will give us entertainment value.

2. Michael Clarke. Terrible voice, boring and bland. Decent analysis but he makes it very boring.

3. Ganguly. He went all out in the semi final as if it were an IPL match rather than an ICC fixture. His over the top descriptions of ordinary players like Pant and Pandya were insulting, and the way he made Dhoni sound like a Demi God during the run chase was pathetic.

I’ve mentioned three guys who actually have cricketing pedigree. People should stop picking on guys like Ather Ali Khan and Isa Guha who really are only their to make numbers and representation.

guha, clarke, third one is open to choice, i pick mark nicholas

reason i put nicholas is because of how dull he sounded during the nz v india semi final. was almost sad that nz were winning.

and can someone please tell me why poor sanjay manjrekar is being lambasted. i thought jadeja reacted like an over agressive child on a tantrum to manjrekar's comments. there are far worse commentators than manjrekar, he does not deserve anywhere near the amount of hate he is getting

Guha was pretty ordinary. She was one-dimensional. Athar Ali Khan was too repetitive and generally adds nothing new. Sourav Ganguly was boring.

Other commentators were fine. Best ones were Ian Bishop, Michael Holding, and Mark Nicholas.

Every commentator was biased except for Bishop to some extent. Even Ian Smith was cheerleading for NZ during the final. The worst of the lot award goes to Manjrekar. A big douche and deserved that egg on his face after Jadejas exploits. Wearing a Mumbai Indians cheerleading costume would have been apt to go along with his commentary

Only on this forum where Isa Guha is described as a poor commentator. The fact is she is recognized as a terrific commentator all over the world.

:))

In India she is. Not even the people from England like her. She got a rough ride on social media from England fans and unsurprisingly the Indian fans loved her.

Athar Ali Khan is the worst, hands down

next two Guha and Akram.

I agree, both Wasim Akram & Athar Ali Khan can put anybody to sleep, Isa Guha must be the biggest IPL fan in the history of cricket.

1. Sourav ganguly
2. Sourav ganguly
3. Sourav ganguly

This bloke was flirting with isha guha, all through the final of the world cup!!

And his non stop compliments for indian players was nauseating!!!

Athar Ali Khan
Saurav Ganguly
Sanjay Manjrekar

Ganguly was the worst. He might as well have been sitting in the stands with India's flag painted on his body.

People who hate on rameez have no taste.

Surprised to see Guha here too.

Isa Guha: Her commentary is inaccurate, extremely basic and lacks any kind of insight or analysis. While the latter two are not everyone's forte, lacking understanding of the game is just a deal breaker for a commentator.

Wasim Akram: Offers nothing except for reading stats off of the screen and the cringey clichés.

No one compares to Athar Ali Khan. He’s truly atrocious.

Ganguly was surprisingly bad this WC.

Ramiz will always make my worst three.

Wasim, Athar, Manjrekar are the worst of the lot.

No idea why people hate Ramiz. I mean how can anyone prefer Wasim over Ramiz? :))

.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed this. Super creepy.

1. Harsha Bhogle
2. Manjreker
3. Ramiz/Wasim/That Bangladeshi commentator

Bhogle is the worst, he has the like the most unpleasant inflection.

Athar
Ganguly
Manjekrekar
Isa guha
Wasim

In that order. Ganguly was extremely poor this time around. The only thing missing with him were the pom poms for India.

I dont like Rameez generally but he wasnt worse than these guys in this world cup so a bit of a promotion for him in my list.

Ganguly
Athar
Wasim Akram
Ramiz

Isa Guha was decent in patches, tolerable other times

Ian Bishop was annoying when he kept praising Archer as though he had bowled the greatest last over in cricket. Archer almost lost the game for England

1. Manjrekar

2. Ganguly

3. Athar Ali Khan

4. Wasim Akram

5. Harsha Bhogle

I cannot see the point of Wasim Akram as a commentator. I mean, for God's sake learn to speak some English. He has been living in the country for the past 20 years!

Isa Guha(IPL,India,England on repeat)
Manjrekar(Hate him for saying this is Pakistan when Fakhar missed the runout of Rohit)
Ganguly(Dhoni-Fastest runner in the world and doesnt get runout)
Most biased commentary from these 3

For me the worst have been :

1. Wasim Akram = All over the place (needs media training)

2. Ganguly = Monotonous and dreary.

3. Isa (IPL) Guha = Has an obsession with the IPL and India, it appears she was spoken to, and she did tone it down as the tournament went on.

Alot of people giving the 3 female commentators flak, especially isha guha. Now i accept she is an ipl fangirl and needs to tone it down, but i think the female commentators(mel jones, mitchell and isha guha, i believe their names are) are fine as commentators and far superior to the likes of ganguly, akram and athar ali khan!
A case of sexism perhaps!!

The only bad thing watching Pakistan games was having to listen to Rambo and Wasim...

For me the Indian and Pakistani commentators along with Athar Ali Khan were all equally bad...

Best commentators were Nasser and Atherton closely followed by Clarke and Bishop.

It was a case of picking who are the best rather than who are the worst. I liked Athers, Bishop. Doull was okay. I don't mind worst commies as long as they can generate some laugh like Waqar lol. Akram in a subtle way evoked some laughter with his "score is 220/4 run rate is 4.5, 3 wickets in hand, there are only 4 fielders allowed outside the circle"

Wasim Akram is the worst because he just reads the stats from the screen.

Saurav Ganguly for his bias.

Athar Ali Khan

Atleast i like Isa's british accent. Ian smith was the most passionate although biased. Manju's nitpicking was unbearable. I liked banter from Michael Clarke.

Wasim Akram and Rambo are bad, but they provide entertainment, wasim over reactions against afg was the best. Without sounding inpolitically correct the female token commies really get annoying, if you watch the test matches or domestic games on sky you can tell even the male comms have a dislike for them and through in a sarcastic jab here and there

Screw you guys, Rameez is a legend!

...and Danedar is the best tea in the world

1. Athar Ali Khan (need subtitles)
2. Isa guha (too basic)
3. Mel jones (just doesnt have the voice)

honorable mentions: Ganguly (barely any emotion) and Wasim (only like when he shares personal stories, and doesnt actually commentate)

Picking 3 is tough.

I could pick about 15 worst comms at the World Cup.

I was speaking with a friend about this and he was saying that there is very little innovation regarding commentary. Most of the time you can predict what is going to be said.

Obvious statements, cheap jokes, pathetic phrases, just reading numbers on-screen.

Every time I heard guha, she basically said ipl and that was pretty much it.

Absolutely terrible.

She has played 100+ international matches, has been part of the WC winning team for England and has occupied the no 1 spot for women's bowling rankings.I am sure her understanding of the game can not be questioned unless one's own is that of an armchair critic.

Wasim is the best. :wasim

Every ten minutes or so...

"The score is 200/4 after 28 overs, run rate is 7.14, sky is blue, fans are happy, 4 fielders outside the circle, and (player on screen) is the best fielder in Pakistan."

Ganguly is one of the best.

Just notice his articulation and clarity while speaking.

I don't see many on here mention any other female commentor other than Isa Guha, who ruined whatever match she was commentating on.

Totally agree. Manjrekar and Gavaskar their obsession with 100s, mumbai players. Ian smith's uber bias commentary. Akram, Ramiz, Athar all run out of words and use random words. Isa Guha being a british is super fluent. I listened to her during Australia/India test series. She was quiet good for a new comer. Her excitement after wickets were not contrived. Guys like manjrekar have been int his business for 15 years. Ramiz probably 20 years? They still resort to cliches. I would take Isa any day over these imbeciles.

On the contrary i didn't like the other female commies. Her observations were spot on during the test series. SHe shared a lot of interesting tid bits May be it is the exaggerated australian accent i was not really fond of.

She shared a bit too much info on the IPL and some Indian players that got annoying, then she fawned over Kohli every-time she got a chance. I get why you prefer her over the others, but I though Mel Jones was insightful and pretty good at explaining what was happening.

Isa Guha is okay in small doses, but it's when she tries to do too much and goes off on one.

Oh sit down! No need to get so antsy!

Playing the game does not equate to understanding or reading the game accurately.

Ganguly, Bhogle, Manjrekar were the worst in terms of personalities and commentary.

You are telling me that a person who has played the sport at the highest level and has been on top of their game has the understanding of a regular fan?(extremely basic and mostly inaccurate?)
Cool story,bro.

Isha Gua with basically one word IPL, the amount of time I heard these to know each other very well due to IPL was crazy and annoying.

Harsha Bhogle ....should have retired about 15 years back...was a novelty in the 90's and early 2000's....continously grates on ur nerves with his weird comparisons of shots played/ball bowled or generally any fielding effort.....
the other two wold be Wasim - reminds you of the geriatric school headmaster who scolds you for not doing the homework you never had any interest in doing...in a drone like voice
and the 3rd would be sanjay/waqar/ Slater...cant describe the agony when i hear them....
-for me personally, a commie should firstly inform-ie pickup on that bit of strategy/field placement change or subtle change of pace or bowling angle change...and shold have an element of humour or quirkiness to enliven the proceedings....i find some of the aussie commies fun - damien fleming the bowl-o-logist is awesome fun, terry alderman is not bad, moody at times is good, ian healy when he drops his aussie cheerleader togs is very good on the technical angle...Slater is a joke, Taylor is the next benaud....my pachas paisa worth...
