Pakistan’s top judge has asked real estate mogul Malik Riaz to pay Rs1 trillion for encroaching on government land in Islamabad.

The Supreme Court was hearing the Margalla Hill’s tree-felling case on Wednesday.

“You must pay for encroaching on the government’s land,” Chief Justice Saqib Nisar told Malik Riaz, who is the founder and chairman of Bahria Town. “Please arrange for Rs1,000 billion before the next hearing.”

Riaz remarked that he doesn’t even have Rs100 billion. “Even the United States won’t have that much money,” he said.

“If you don’t have the money, then who does? Malik Riaz has the money of the entire country,” the top judge said.

The additional attorney general said that a Bahria Town office has been built on a national park.

“Bahria enclave has occupied much of the government land. What is happening in Bahria Town?” the chief justice asked.

Riaz asked the court to give him 20 minutes to speak. Chief Justice Nisar said that the court will hear him on October 1, Monday.

This is huge news if they can get Malik Riaz to pay up. Rs. 1 trillion is around $8 billion, we won't even need a bailout.

And just imagine, this is from Islamabad alone.

I doubt vthey can get that much money from Bahria Town. They simply won't have that sort of money, at most they could provide 50 billion rupees.

Where do these idiots come from? Not even a fan of Malik Riaz, he's a corrupt man that needs punishment but this is so ridiculous, it hurts

99% of Malik Riaz wealth is stolen from the PK people, it needs to be taken back. The other thing to note is that Malik Riaz is the Don along with NS and AZ and he thinks he is untouchable.

Riiight. And Malik Riaz has 1 trillion dollars in which world?

It may not be a trillion but it would be over a billion. Its interesting that you post when the crooks are taken to task, last week you were happy NS was granted bail
Whose side are you on?

Thats why you always join debates which involve the likes of the Sharifs and Malik Riaz.

Yes, I must be paid by them to take part in debates.

Meanwhile, if you check my history, you'll see I voted PTI. I defended the judge because he was right that they did not present the case well enough to convict

Here, I am criticising the judge because that's a ridiculous comment. But you see it as a black and white Nawaz and Malik Riaz supporting issue

As far as i am concerned NS, Malik Riaz and AZ are nexus against PK. Each one cursed by greed when Allah has given them great responsibility. As far as the NS case goes, the question remains as to where the money comes from for his properties in London, and the onus is on him. He has to show where they came from and that btw is the law NAB uses to prosecute these crooks.

Few things.

Like I said there in the thread, a judge judges according to what is in front of him. NAB patently failed to prove corruption. Was there corruption? Yes.

Why did NAB not prove it? I've got a theory, and bear with me here. NAB is staffed by who? The government.

Which government staffed NAB? It wasn't IK's. It was Nawaz's. See where I'm going here?

Thus, IK needs to take action now to clean NAB.

Next, on to this thing. Asking for money which he doesn't have gives Malik Riaz a great chance of getting this appealed. Asking for a more moderate, realistic sum would have made an appeal less useful.

Again, this is where I have an issue. As a judge, he's helping Malik Riaz though it might not seem so to him or you.

As far as I know IK can’t do anything legally to NAB as it would be seen as political interference. The Nooras appointed that corrupt idiot who then appointed the corrupt prosecutors but even then a decent judge would have seen through it.

A judge only judges what is in front of him. He can't make a personal judgement on facts that are not there. This is why guilty people get off too, even if the judge knows they're guilty, but can't say it was proved based on facts.

You can blame the Judge, but you're better off focusing on NAB and their prosecution. The judge did his job, I daresay and judge in the country would give the same decision

What are you drinking today? - I don’t get where Pakistanis get there numbers from, $200 B outside, $10B from Malik Raiz

First of why successful business man will bailout country?

Pakistani are going in wrong direction, they are going after the only successful businessman outside of military establishment. You cannot go after big businesses after 30 years, all you can go for is to have better regulation for his next project. Otherwise there won’t be any big company in USA... Main job of business man is to create jobs and opportunities, which he is doing pretty well. Before Bharia there was never a successful private housing model.

Secondly, all Army affiliated businesses in Pakistan ( Fauji this and Faiji that, DHA itself) are build on public funding and exemptions, they end up killing private enterprises in their industries, why we are not going afford than as well ?? -

DHA itself is a big con, Army has made mess of law and order of entire country except small pockets of their communities, then they grab whatever land they want and make it their own community. Well Malik raiz Bhairia town is modeled after Army DHA in many ways. He offered better roads, private guards, electricity to his community, that’s makes them sell lot more. Last time I checked with my relatives in Bharia, they were more happier then DHA or CDA counter part ;-)

So to summerise your argument Malik Riaz has a right to steal public land because the army that you dont like also did it. Great logic

I'm pretty sure if anyone encroached on public land in the UK, the properties would be demolished and the land reclaimed. It seems wrong to accept money as a pay off afterwards.

Honestly, that is probably the right way to go, as well as dealing out some sort of punishment.

So basically, Malik Riaz and Bahria Town are allowed to encroach on land, steal, and drive people out because the army also did it? What are you drinking today? :yk

Both are in the wrong, both should be held to account. If accountability starts off with Malik Riaz, what's the issue? Or is it only accountaility when it happens to the army?

I am all for accountability. But remember accountability starts from stronger not weaker. In last 70 years, how many times we had Generals under trial? - They are the biggest and strongest culprit, you have to get rid of them first

So Malik Riaz the billionaire is weak. You sound more sillier every time you post.

Malik Riaz is weak? What did I just read? :))

So what you are saying is that until the army aren't held accountable, everyone else should have a free license to do whatever they want?

Not a single General is more richer/powerful than Malik Riaz. Infact many retired generals are working in Bahria as employees.

So Bahria town trying to blackmail the SC today by not paying workers and suppliers. The SC must not back down against the Don
