Torres - Back to His Best?

^ He was the right signing when bought as Makelele was going to groom him for when he left but sadly he just seems to be content to sit back and and collect his paycheck whilst making the odd sub appearance.

Out of the Chelsea squad, I hate Mikel the most. Why did they release Ballack? Sure he played much better with Leverkusen and Bayern but he was definitely better than Mikel.

Because he is old and crap. Heck, even Leverkeusen were trying to get rid of him. A man past his sell-by date.

Best 12M we ever received. :D

Well originally mikel was more of an attacking mid rather then a holding mid but mourinho turned him into a defensive mid so gotta feel for the lad.

Well would agree that it was probably the best bit of business Fergie did amongst his not so famous transfers as well ;). Historically we have never been good in transfers (Mourinho era was the best) only recently I feel that the club is moving in the right direction in terms of transfers with the recent acquisitions of Mata, Ramires, Luiz (still a question mark on that but cannot fault him for flair), De Bruyne (he will be a big star for us).

Ideally I would want Paulo Ferreira, Bosingwa, Mikel, Kalou and Malouda out along with reduced appearances for the likes of Terry and Lampard in order to better integrate new players in the system.

David luiz is world class.but i doubt de bruyne succeeding here sadly, hopefully i will be proved wrong.

Well he is.The reason our defence has been poor this season is that our full backs have been pretty bad, bosingwa is a terrible full back while ashley cole has been out of form.whenever we have played ivanovic at right back luiz and terry as center backs and cole at left back we have been pretty solid in defence unfortunately avb hardly ever plays with this defence.Altough i agree luiz does make that odd mistake but he is young and will improve.

Well Mufassir I still kind of agree with the Sky pundits that he should atleast be tried in the DM/CM role because such is the level of his skill that he cannot be termed purely as a defender. Plus there's no use having Cahill on the bench, might as well utilize him where he is best. So I had the following formation in mind:

Cech
Bosingwa - Ivanovic - Terry/Cahill - Cole
Luiz - Lampard (in an advanced role) - Ramires
Sturridge - Torres/Drogba - Mata

Yeah i agree we can try luiz at def mid position and see how it goes but doubt avb is ever gonna do that.

Some of us put it down to settling into a new club, or settling in with a manager who suited him, or settling in with some decent players around him. Yet here we are 70+ games into his Chelsea career and the excuses are wearing thin.

How can a 28 year old, someone at his physical peak, have lost the plot so badly?

They should have kept Lukaku and gave him the playing time they have given to Torres

Not sure how it's happened BUT Torres looks done at the top level

Torres just doesnt have it anymore at highest level and should be shipped off to lesser league and chelsea should cut their expensive losses.

He is just TOO inconsistent. You will see in some games where he shows shades of his past but otherwise he's never hungry for the ball. Demba Ba's performances have been great over the same period.

I think he will be shipped out this summer because Lukaku will be coming back as well as a top-class forward. As a top club Chelsea cannot afford to keep players who don't even start for their national team.

I made this point earlier as well about kicking all the 'deadwood' out some of them have been frozen out or left (Malouda, Bosingwa, Kalou) but Mikel definitely needs to leave! He was at fault for the first goal yesterday and he does not bring anything to the team at all. Should never have let Meireles leave.

This has been a hellish year for us:

1. Lampard's contract situation
2. Managerial crisis
3. New players not bedded in properly
4. Change of football philosophy

I believe next year all these things will have stabilized and by then we will be back from this temporary hiatus to challenge the Manchester clubs.

To stabilise things you need a manager and then not to sack him after a few bad games, which Abramovich has shown he is incapable of doing

The only way you will challenge for the title any time soon is if Mourinho comes back

That scenario is looking increasingly likely. If Mourinho wins the CL with Real this year then he will DEFINITELY leave. Sadly I don't see that many good managers out there other than Mourinho who can move the club forward.

There has been a lot of talk about David Moyes but let's see what happens. If Mourinho does come it would be great if he can bring Di Maria along with him.

Only thing about Michu is that he did'nt start out as a forward at all, he has always been an attacking mid and was playing in that position till Laudrup decided to push him further.

Torres will never be the Torres we once knew, poor Investment. Chelsea have always been unlucky when it comes to Strikers, Crespo, Kuzman, Pizzaro, Shevchenko and the junkie Adrian Mutu.
And know with rumour talks of either Cavani and Falcoa i'm sacred of wasting money again.

Well he's turned things around pretty well.

In good form this season and playing good football.

What an idiotic charge from MCI Goalkeeper yesterday. Gave Torris a much needed confidence nonetheless.

Despite at times showing glipses of his best at Chelsea Torres continues to flop imo.

An interesting stat:

For Liverpool he scored 65 goals in 102 matches.
For Chelsea it's now 19 in 101.

He's driving more at the opposition centrebacks this season, he still needs to improve on his finishing. Since the start of the season he has become much more all-round in his qualities, he seems to have gained a yard of pace (maybe the work with the Olympic sprinting coach is paying off), also he's become very good in the air and has got the strength to hold the ball. Finishing is the only area where he needs to improve as his decision making is a bit slow at times.

Torres will never get to his best but it's hilarious to watch him these days. It's even more hilarious to see the media and public frenzy whenever he does score a goal. All you get for the next few days is how Torres is back to his best and he will start banging them in now. That goes on until the next sitter Torres misses, then his confidence deserts him again and he goes back to being rubbish.
