I just hope they don't prepare phattas. ANY okay team will out bat us on such a track.

Also don't forget that Rauf, Shaheen and Naseem have a horrible record at flat wickets getting spanked trying every T20 tool in a format you have 60 balls to survive instead of only 24.

Middle overs will be key and there we will miss an extra spinner ..

Pakistan strongest format is 50 over OD.

But , Pakistan need to play proper spinners in this format. Spinners who are genuine wicket takers not just darters.

I think Pakistan is looking for Saud as an opener but if they are not, Babar should move up and Saud should bat at 3-4 instead of batting below rizwan... Try him as an opener because we need one atm..

NZ should look to get some game time into Sears and also test Conway 's keeping over 50 overs.

No rachin Ravindra and Philips?

No need to Play Latham. Rachin and Philips are better option than Latham and bracewell.

Rachin is a lock in the final XI. And they know what they get with Philips. If Conway's keeping is not upto the mark , they will have to play Latham no matter what.

NZ will be using this series to find tije their XI

Its better to give rachin and Philips some game prepration before the champion trophy.

Champion trophy is very short tournament so players have to ready before the tournament .

Conway keeping is good enough so no need to give Latham any match practice when he is not going to Play any match in the champion trophy.

They already have enough. NZ need to arrive at their best combination.

Conway keeping was pathetic in World T20. They have to see whether he can keep for 50 overs.

If I am not mistaken he did open once in NZ. He shouldn't be batting higher than 8.
He opened because NZ were smashing the living daylights out of Pakistan and Pakistan were forced to respond when they had crap like Imam ul Haq opening for them on those decks.

This is what happens when your cricket nation is so obsessed with rubbish white ball players whilst other teams are just stacking up with guns throughout! The idea was right by Mickey, Faheem didn’t deliver! Eventually Fakhar plugged that hole and it should have been Sharjeel to pair him…but instead we had to protect the laanat of players like Imam, Babar, and then eventually Rizwan, Salman etc.

Now it’s meant to be Saim and Fakhar to open but this may never materialise either. Pakistan is a cursed nation when it comes to building a proper white ball team/line up north it’s a proper approach to the game.

A really weird series.
Usually in tri series you play each other twice. Here everyone plays each other once.

Seems to be a warm up series

All of NZ and SA players are busy in SA T20 and ILT20

What kind of sides are they sending out for this?

Hopefully this series can be good practice for Pak, to figure what combination they want to go with during the Champions trophy

Basically it's a meaningless series, let's see what Pakistan do on the day , team may look like

Fakhar
Rizwan
Babar
Saud
KG
TT
Agha
Rauf
SSA
Naseem
Abrar

People seem to be suggesting 2nd specialist spinner, had they picked, lets hear it who? where should he bat and which bowler or batter do you leave out?

Long term forecast showing there's rain expected on 4/5th Feb.

This is much needed, the lahore air right now is 99% dust & smog. Also will help clear the stadium a bit as it's super dusty in itself.

Babar opening would change the batting positions of a few more so babar kept at 3 would be good.

Fakhar

There's a chance it might get cancelled, as PTI supporters are planning a "peaceful" protest.
But let’s be honest, no PTI protest is ever peaceful we’re likely to see buses and buildings set on fire again

could be a security risk for teams visiting lets see how it goes.
Country over Cricket any day

Country over Cricket any day
The champions trophy isn't just cricket. It's about the whole country. No trouble during this phase.

Any protestor should be charged with terrorism. I say this is as a somewhat supporter of PTI.

Nobody outside of Pakistan gives a crap about who is in jail or who is in power. There will be no upside to these protests, but the downsides are massive for the image and long term reputation of Pakistan. They must not place foreigners in any danger or allow them to feel threatened.

Pak is probably top 3 odi side at the moment, expecting them to win this series easily as beating Aus and Saf on their own turf is no easy feat.

And both Nz and Saf not probably going to send their best XI for this series any way.

Pakistan will suffer a very heavy defeat.... if Faheem Ashraf plays.

Why dont they try Faheem as opener??

They can , but for that you need to be a thinking out of box. Pakistan selection and coaching and planning lack imagination. They are afraid to try new things.

Just give Fahim 3 games as opener , and tell him to go and enjoy and not worry too much. That would add more depth in to batting.

Not sure why people are against Faheem. He has done well recently. Aamer jamal is awful to be honest and the issue we have is we dont have anybody like for like.

New Zealand's squad is the same as their CT squad with the addition of Jacob Duffy

pak wont win a single match in the tri series with this crap.Saim was already 50% of the team so not gonna win without him .

Pakistan squad is mess , you bolster all rounders then we are opener short , players will be out of position and if one of the seamers has an off day then it's all haywire.

What will.be the teams combination

Series needs to be used for what it is: a chance to finalize the XI going into CT.

IMO Usman, Tayyab, Khushdil, Faheem and Hasnain need to play the first 2 matches as they're the only ones who haven't really secured a spot. Hopefully one or two of them click which should give the team more confidence.

Pakistan should go for the 11 they are going to play in the Champions trophy...

I want to see this 11 though:

Saud
Fakhar
Babar
Kamran
Rizwan
Salman
Khushdil
Shaheen

This is a joke squad for Pakistani pitches. It's only good for uae pitches vs India.

For Pakistani pitches you need an extra batter in tayyab over a tulle baz khushdil. Khushdil is needed for uae.

Tayyab is ugly technique wise but he's done really well in internationals at no 7 so cresit where it's due.

Also ik people have issues with usman khan but try him for the tri series as an opener as he has been good in Pakistani pitches. If it fails then Babar and Fakhar need to open in pakistan while saud and fakhar need to open in uae.

^^ Ik none of this will happen, because pcb is clueless, but the playing 11 you selected for pakistan is rubbish.

3 spinners are not needed on flat tracks and saud is a horrible bet to open on a flat track . He's a solid accumulator who should play at 3.

Babar for all his faults can atleast play pace well and spam that cover drive in the first 10 overs and keep pace with fakhar.

National Squad Continues Training at Ghani Institute of Cricket

The national players participated in a warm-up session at the start of their training, followed by fielding drills and catch practice under the guidance of the coaches.

After the fielding practice, the players engaged in a scenario-based practice match as part of their preparation.

The first match of the Tri-Nation Series will be between Pakistan and New Zealand, scheduled for February 8 at the Gaddafi Stadium. This will be a day-night match.

If it's a highway with dew coming in, you can't defend unless you score 360 here.

Depending on the nature of the pitch , dew etc. , a winning score while batting first could be anywhere between 300-360

Both Faheem and Khusdil should play in triseries to determine who is the lesser evil. Babar should bat @3

360 type totals are not that common in Pakistan. 330 is generally a winning total, even with dew.

There have been a few matches in Lahore where the conditions under lights have been ridiculously easy.

Sri Lanka chased 280 odd in 40 overs against Pakistan way back in 1997 . Pakistan chased 349 in 49 overs against Australia in 2022

A fairly weak Zimbabwe side scored upto 335 odd in 2015 without a fuss.

330 did not look safe when India toured in 2004 either.

It depends on the particular surface and amount of dew etc. but teams should be prepared to score up to 350/360 if put in to bat

So basically Pak vs NZ final, SA team is a joke.

Oh yes.

I remember the days when they wanted Misbah to open the innings as well.
Misbah as an opener in test or odi? In tests it's a horrible idea. In odi hmmm, eh still a bad idea, can only be used as an experiment.
