Let others play , Rizwan is captain so he is certain in playing XI till CT, let's other grab their opportunity and create a headache for Aaqib Javed
riz has become too arrogant,he doesnt play a single shot inthe first 30 balls even if his life depended on it

Hahah Usman Khan replacing Babar. I have seen it all now.

They make spin pitches for Tests to win against SENA side and select one spinner for an ICC tournament at home

Like seriously mad these selectors are. Only prayers , rain and miracles can save this side form utter embarrassment and hammering from the visitors

I wouldn’t be surprised if Pak reel under the bottom of the table losing all three games in Champion trophy with an early exit like in 2013

Rauf not avail for selection in SA game, an opportunity for Faheem or Hasnain

Why do you guys always want spinners you want to be like india follow australia who only play one genuine spinner just like pak is doing with abrar playing they are following Australian mindset which is the way to go back your fast bowlers like australia does and they win world cups with their fast bowling.

Especially true when Pakistan is the most talented fast bowling nation in history. Even Abrar shouldn't play all matches

PAK should play 4 of their fastest bowlers - Rauf , Akif etc.

Good XI, I would go with this team too.

If they don't want to select Saud, they can choose Usman as the second opener (definitely not my preferred option). Saud can actually bowl a bit too if needed.

They're kind of stuck with Khushdil, so not much can be done there unless they want to torture themselves with Faheem.

Exactly. It's either Khushdil or Faheem for that position and I would rather take Khushdil over Faheem.

Hopefully Usman is only there as concussion sub for Rizwan and we don't have to come to the point where he actually plays. I would be very surprised if Saud doesn't play in the next match. It would be very hard to justify that.

South Africa Squad: Temba Bavuma (c), Tony de Zorzi, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs, Rassie van der Dussen.

I don't think this is the correct South Africa squad for this series.

Saud Shakeel should come in instead to strengthen the middle order. No idea why he is completely neglected from ODIs despite some decent performances in last ODI WC. He deserves consistent chances in ODI format

Pakistan Squad Trains at National Cricket Stadium, Karachi

The national team continued their training session with warm-up exercises and fielding drills.

Coaches focused on improving catching and overall fielding skills.

Players also had an intense net session, working on both batting and bowling.

Pakistan will face South Africa on February 12.

Naseem Shah addressing a press conference in Karachi ahead of the second match against South Africa in the Tri-Nation ODI series:

Handling pressure of PM’s statement:

"In my opinion, words are one thing, but performing on the field is another. As players, we don’t focus too much on such statements. If you keep thinking about these things, the pressure will only increase. The more disciplined we stay and play basic cricket, the better we will perform. Our entire team is working hard, and we hope to play good cricket."

Drop in bowling speed:

"If you look at my last match, my speed was around 140 kph, which is considered normal in ODIs. There are only a few bowlers in the world who consistently bowl at 145-150 kph. In my opinion, in ODIs and Test cricket, line, length, and discipline matter more. Yes, speed is important, but if you bowl accurately at 137-140 kph, it is more effective. This is the average pace in world cricket today."

Post-injury performance:

"After an injury, until you produce a big performance, criticism will always be there. I am working hard, and I expect big performances from myself as well. My recent performances in the last two series were decent but not at the level I wanted. As for pitches, a fast bowler needs to be very disciplined here. You don’t get many wickets on these surfaces, but you can create pressure with tight bowling. Spinners also play a major role, and as a bowling unit, we need to be patient and accurate."

India-Pakistan hype:

"So far, there hasn’t been any special discussion about how to approach the India game. Everyone’s focus is on playing good cricket throughout the tournament. If you only think about one match, it can create problems for the rest of the tournament. Handling pressure is key, and the team that manages it better will perform well. We just need to play the same cricket we play against other teams."

Losing from winning positions:

"If you look at our matches since 2021, we have played a lot of close games. Some small mistakes have cost us matches. We have worked on these mistakes and will try not to repeat them this time. As players, we learn from our past errors and prepare ourselves for upcoming challenges. Hopefully, we will play our best cricket in this tournament."

Bowling struggles:

"If you look at our last two or three series, our bowlers have performed well, especially in Australia and South Africa. Yes, in some matches, our execution was not as good as it should have been, but judging the entire bowling attack based on one or two games is unfair. We are working hard to improve as a bowling unit, and I am confident that we will do well moving forward."

"As professional players, we know what mistakes we made. These things are discussed within the team, and we work on fixing them. We don’t need to reveal every mistake publicly, but internally, we analyze them and try to improve. In cricket, when you perform well, mistakes go unnoticed, but when performances drop, everything comes to light. Our focus is on correcting these errors."

So one thing is clear, it is never going to be an easy match for Pakistan and they may get eliminated too in case of bottling

If Haris is unfit then bring in Hasnain & maybe Saud for Kamran at No.3 but the rest I would go with an unchanged side.

Give Khushdil another chance to see if he can do something against the South Africans but realistically, he was a poor recall.

These nobodies know nothing. They always wanna copy these Indians.

So basically 2 chokers type team playing a virtual SF interesting

Pak needs to play with aggressive mindset test the young guns regardless of result

Fakhar
Uzzy
Babar
Saud
Agha
Khusdil
Faheem
Rizwan
SSA
Abrar
Hasnain

Uzzy? u meant to say Usman Khan?

So news is both Hasnain and Haris are not fit to play the next match. So Faheem likely to replace Haris, and even Tayyib Tahir is not fit so Kamran gets to retain his place because Saud now not replacing him but Tayyab. Aqif Javed is also coming into the squad as 16th player in case Haris does not recover in this Tri nation.

Whats the cut off time for squad changes? 12 is the last date, but there is also a cutt off time.

I wont be surprised if in between the match someone gets dropped from the CT squad.

Whoa. What is the source...

Akif javed??

Why not Jahandad, or M Wasim, who can both hold the bat a bit and have performed decently.

Or worst case Jamal then you can consider playing 2 specialist spin bowlers.

You just can't get back decent combination with squad some of these players needs to be dropped

What’s the issue with Akif? He’s definitely a better seamer than Naseem Shah at least

agreed... naseem is overrated now who is very much predictavle with his line and length and his pace has also descreased so no point sticking with him when u have better options available.

With Haris rauf set to miss the next game, We might be able to see mighty lord Rana g back in the team after a long time. Let's go

Okay that is a separate issue. Nasim Shah form. But I still feel akif will be taken to the sword by batters who can easily hit pickup shots for 6 or 4 as his length is always a touch short. And he hasn't been with the team as backup bowler in any format in long time. He is also dud with bat and fielding.

I would go with Jahandad, or Mohammed Wasim. Wasim gets good reverse which would be useful in death overs.

Akif is not good in death overs he has gone for 20 or so few times in BPL even.

Forgot about Abbas Afridi, he would be first in my list ,then Jahandad or Wasim.

Among other squad changes I would drop Fahim and Usman 2 complete waste of spots. Keeper can be called immediately if Rizwan injured in hosted tournament.

Batting is very very poor , will not win against even a List A team.

Agha , Kushdil , faheem are not capable with bat technically. Pakistan have failed to sort the issues that has been looming for long time.

Pakistan should absolutely dominate the match. South Africa are a very weak team.

Pakistan should win. They are better than South Africa in ODI.

But, calling South Africa a weak team is a bit of a stretch. :inti

Need Pakistan to lose, can’t go into a major tournament as one of the favourites.

We play better when there’s no expectations.

Tayyab Tahir shared following thoughts in his pre match press conference today:

Importance of the Match Against South Africa

"God willing, we will strive for victory. Confidence is key to strong performance, so a win tomorrow, God willing, will boost the team's morale and encourage us to play even better."

Pressure on Key Players

Pressure is inherent in international cricket. We operate as a team, not relying on any single player. We win and lose together, as a unit."

On Batting Position
"As professionals, we adapt. We aim to perform wherever we are given the opportunity. We don't fixate on batting order; we simply execute the role assigned to us."

Team's morale after the loss against New Zealand

"The team's spirit remains high. The management has been very supportive, reassuring us that it was simply an off day."

Fast Bowlers and Home Advantage

"Our team boasts world-class bowlers. The home series advantage lies in the potential for reverse swing. If our premier fast bowlers can achieve good reverse swing, their performance in this series will be enhanced."

Playing Domestic Cricket

"Our experience in Pakistan's domestic cricket provides valuable insight into the wickets and pitches, including the bounce. This is particularly advantageous for players coming from the domestic circuit, giving us a better understanding of the expected turn and bounce."

Personal Performance and Role in the Team

"I am committed to fulfilling the role assigned to me. Ultimately, our goal is to score runs, which significantly benefits the team. We are continually learning and improving, and God willing, we will strive for even better performances."

SOuth Arica oflate have poor bilateral record against Asian sides. Especially away or neutral. Lost 4 series in a row to Asian sides. This is an away match for them.

2024 - Pakistan won (away)
2024 - Afghanistan won (neutral venue)
2023 - India won (away)
2022 - India won (home)
2022 - Banglaesh won (away)
2022 - SA won (home)
2021 - Srilanka won (home)

Atleast there will be no Haris to thrash tomorrow only Faheem, Naseem & Shaheen get phainty for the pacers. If Pakistan want to help themselves then they should go with Akif not Faheem, his 15 runs even Akif can score. Shame Pak in no mood to change Championship Squad.
