Lol. Now Shakib has one more over Afridi. Let's see if Afridi can match Shakib's audacious manhandling of Mendis when the Lankans go over to your yard where the pitches are much flatter.

And I don't think Shakib is more talented than Afridi. But I am very confident that Shakib will be a much much better player when he retires and will posses stats that will make Afridi cry.

EDIT: Actually I think Shakib is already a better player than Afridi.

I doubt if Bangladesh has won two matches in a row against any top teams ever. They shocked Pakistan in 1999 world cup. They still depend on shock wins. In this case SL left out Vaas, Fernandez, Dilshan. And shortened game works in favor of BD. If they win the final that will be a major step. If not it is back to square one.

Both have different roles. Shakib is a proper batsman, who can bowl well ( very well these days )

Mohammad Ashraful Is more close to Shahid Afridi
BOTH have the "keera" problem , both LOVE to play their shots and can't wait long to play their beloved shots.
Also stats won't be different in the end I feel. Also Ashraful used to be a dangerous opener.

Vaas and Dilshan were dropped due to poor form so they are not with the SL squad. SL played their best XI from their squad in Bangladesh.


While Shakib is undoubtedly the star of the match. Mashrafe and Rubel should not be forgotten. Mash removed one of their openers and Sangakkara, both for 0. And Rubel bowled brilliantly in the later overs returning with figures of 4-33. This was his debut. At 19 he is clocking 140+, he is the biggest prospect in Bangladesh ATM. He has a Fidel Edwards type slinging action. He definetely has a bright future and if he can remain injury-free and is nurtured properly by Champak Ramnayake then he will be a great opening bowler for us.

Bowlingwise Bangladesh is doing okay. Batting has a long way to go. Rightnow Sri lanka is in middle of horrible patch. They were bowled out in Zimbabwe for 152. in one match they were pushed hard while chasing. They won with 2 wickets to spare. Even against Zimbabwe in this series they didn't do any good considering it was a 50 over game.

When I made this commentary thread I never expected it to get to the second page. Anyways its good to see Bangla can at least make the final in their home tri-series, but like I thought at the start, the shortened game did help them. I think it would have been a lot harder if it had lasted the entire 50 overs.

Shakib looks like the only Bangladeshi batsmen capable of making runs still and that isn't a good sign going into the final. As for SL, I guess once again it proves their batting is too reliant on Sanga and Jayasuriya. I am liking Pakistans chances already!

true, but after beating top sides a good 7-8 times in the past few years, it can't be considered a shock like the 1999 pak win (which is still a shock, 10 years AFTER the fact). if it is a shock, i fail to see how the opposition teams are any different from our players "who never learn". india lost twice, new zealand lost, australia lost, this same SL team lost, south africa lost. at some point, you have to begin to entertain the remote chance that you could lose to BD, otherwise i'm afraid there isn't much cranial activity going on.

nowadays the wins are still rare, but are an expression of the potential of a young side, not a miracle. miracles don't happen every 6 months!
