PESHAWAR: Two security personnel of of Frontier Constabulary (FC) including an officer were killed and at least seven others were wounded in a powerful blast in Hayatabad area of Peshawar on Monday morning.
The sources said the blast was suicidal in nature. The security officer has been identified as Major Jamal and the other as Zahir Shah.
The FC convoy was on a routine patrol from its camp to Qila Bala Hissar.
The sources said the attacker was riding a motorbike.He blew himself up after ramming his motorcycle into the convoy of FC personnel, killing a security officer and wounding five of them.
The explosion took place in Hayatabad phase-III area of Bagh-e-Naran Chowk near Bajaur Agency.
Constable Waliullah, Lance Naek Tahir Shah, Constable Amir Jan, Constable Sharafat and civilians Shahid Khan, Hamayun, Ahmed Shah, Laila and Sarmad Shah were among the injured, police said.
Bodies and the injured have been shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar and CMH Peshawar. The security forces cordoned off the area.
Officials of Bomb Disposal Unit said the suicide bomber riding a motorbike was wearing a vest with 10-12 KG of explosive material, who targetted the vehicle.
Martyred Major Jamal hailed from FC KPK’s Special Operation Group (SOG).
The blast was so powerful that it was heard far and wide. According to SP Cantt Imran Malik, the body parts of the suicide attacker have been collected from the blast site.
