I fully understand the anguish of Pakistani fans at the phenomenal progress of Indian Cricket but in my mind it may be leading to false comparisons and rash recommendations.

Rahul Dravid coached the Indian U19 side and now heads the NCA. This leads some Pakistani fans to ask for Younis Khan to be given a similar role. However, I am not sure if it will be a good idea.

To begin with Rahul Dravid is highly educated, articulate and level headed. He was an absolute gentleman on and off the field and a genuine role mode. Younis Khan on the other hand never had these qualities although he was a great player.

Youngsters may benefit from Younis' work ethics but will he be able to transmit his experience and educate youngsters as effectively as Dravid? I doubt it!

When we look at the current U19 Coach Mohammad Masroor, he seems to have done well, new talent is feeding into the National side and the team is doing well under him.

Why replace him with Younis Khan for the sake of it?

I do think that U19 and U16 boys need a professional team around them (dieticians, trainers etc) to groom them properly at a younger age and to narrow the gap when they step up at a higher level and this should be provided to Mohammad Masroor but lets not throw away things from Pakistan Cricket which seem to be working.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

We should look at the Indian system but we should not mimic it for the sake of it.

Younis vs Dravid
Your comparison is spot on
Infact you can expand this phenomenon to over all Indian vs Pakistan cricketers in terms of education and professionalism
To give you another example just listen to Razaq's recent interviews

Rahul dravid also worked in IPL as a mentor and gained experience before he became India "A" and India U19 coach. Therefore his progress as a coach has been organic

Interesting observations, yet how do you reconcile that with Dravid's record as captain of India, with Younis having won the World T20 in 2009?

For all his intellect and orthodox corporate approach, it didn't seem to produce winning results when it truly mattered.

Dravid was a very good captain. It was under him that India became a powerful chasing team in odis . Also won historic test series in WI and Eng.

All the good things about his captaincy got overshadowed by Greg Chappell and the poor atmosphere he created leading to their disastrous wc.

Dravid was an OK captain and Younis did win T20 world cup but as a captain he wasn't at the helm long enough for us to compare.

Rahul Dravid as Captain:

  1. Games: 104
  2. Won: 50
  3. Win %: 48.07%

Others:

  1. Miandad Win % = 41.66%
  2. Afridi Win % = 45.78%
  3. Imran Win % = 47.59%
  4. Misbah Win % = 50.99%
  5. Inzimam Win % = 52.45%
  6. Dhoni Win % = 53.61%
  7. Wasim Win % = 58.20%
  8. Waqar Win % = 59.49%
  9. Kohli Win % = 64.82%
