Just heard in Pakistani news channels Umar Akmal failed fitness test again....

why for gods sake he was selected for CT in the first place.....

He is not fit and he hasn't performed for Pakistan for as long as I can remember, but he still keeps getting selected for some reason that is unbeknownst to me.

Can someone tell me the last time Umar Akmal performed really well for Pakistan? Had to have been before the 2015 World Cup.

haha

This is rubbish - Umar Akmal should know what is at stake here (especially with his career on this line). After failing last time - he should have been working day and night to regain his fitness and form but alas...

Richard Levi became fat and unfit. He lost is place in the Protea side, dumped by his IPL side, lost his place place in the 'Cape Cobras' in South Africa's domestic league

The Proteas are very strict on unfit overweight players

You don't understand though, we need modern, dynamic, attacking players who get winded from that long trek from the dressing room to the middle.

I bet agenda driven PCB people are purposely failing him on the fitness test

Seems like one segment of PCB wants him selected, while another wants him dropped that is why they are making fitness the pretext, otherwise there are more unfit players than him in the squad. If he had to be dropped it should have been for his ill-performance.

I hope they send Haris, Amin, Yamin or Talat in his place, but knowing Inzi we might have Ifti chacha heading to England.

I can see it as to select Abbas

If this is true, he is a total and utter braindead idiot.

After his lousy Pakistan Cup form and being dropped from the WI tour due to fitness, he was lucky to be in the CT squad to begin with. He should've taken this reprieve with both hands.

But the fact he STILL hasn't resolved his fitness issues shows you he's still a child in a man's body who cannot take responsibility for his own career.

These fitness tests BTW are nowhere near what the top sides conduct ! Yet Akmal still fails it anyway. Wonder how MRSN and Hawkeye will another excuse for the "explosive and dynamic" Umar Akmal.

I can't understand Inzi's selection.

He is worse than any selector we ever had.

There is no need for the overly aggressive tone which people like to use when addressing UA from their circle jerk where people take turns with the insults, but what you should do is focus your civil criticisms towards the selectors; why was he selected in the first place? did they honestly believe he would turn things around in the allotted time before the CT?

Anyhow, Abbas is ready to step in given that there have not been any injuries to the squad unless they orchestrate one and bring in another batsman for UA.

Haris Sohail has to be the replacement, not sur if he'll pass the fitness test though :13:

No one can hit the ball as hard as Umar Akmal? Who else do we have in the list?

He failed it twice on this tour only. 3 days back he failed the fitness test and now he fails the test again today.

Why the heck was he selected in the first place? He failed the fitness test before the WI tour but was cleared by Inzi and Co.

Rubbish decision to even select him.

Still miles better than some of the other batsman we have.

Keep him

Only he and Babar are going to perform

Time for Misbah to be coaxed out of ODI retirement and take his rightful place at #6 as the finisher.

:salute

Plz plz plz let this be true. Hooefully inzi will throw him out for good and have someone like Umar Amin or Harris Sohail or Hussain Talat in there.

Also hearing that management has requested for Abbas in place of Shadab. Pathetic.

Scenerio of may 2016::::
There were 17 levels in the fitness test conducted by PCB.... even one who reached till 6 level was considered fit.... misbah and younis were only two players at that time who had reached 17th level..... Sarfi hadn't even reached 6 level (though he would be better today)....
I dont know whether the standards are still same or have they changed anything.
BTW :salute TO :uakmal

Sorry but it's Pakistan Cricket..... it is all abt reports and "The person whose name nobody knows"...... there is nothing like confirmed or true source.

So if some person or report comes out stating UA tops fitness test we should also just believe it?

He is the only one failing fitness tests time and time again. Last one was where other player were present. Time to top making excuses for him

forget abt fitnessss..... his performance is more pathetic than his fitness.... what for is this Nonsense in the team..... 125 Odi's 60 t20's.... wat else does he need to show his taelunt and poetanshal. he doesn't even deserve a single chance even if he score MILLIONS of runs

Joke of a cricketer, probably the worst to have played so many games on the name of talent

Mmmm.

So is Sharjeel Khan about to receive a backdated two month ban, and replace Umar Akmal for the Champions Trophy?

As much as we talk about spot fixers bringing bad name to us , it's cricketers like Umar Akmal who're epitome of corruption yet nobody can even touch them. He has been involved in shady activities , has criminal record and is the biggest TTF in the team even hafeez is better than this hack. If there were any merit and fairness this guy would not be anywhere near the team.

I can't believe a player of Akmal's caliber has still so many fans. Namely his biggest cheerleader Hawkeye who won't appear on threads like these.

All Hafeez, Malik, and Afridi are twice the cricketers that this hack will ever be.

Its official. He's being called back. Selectors considering Haris Sohail or Umar Amin as replacements.
Hopefully it's Haris Sohail.

This should be it for Akmal for the time being. Sad end to a career that started with promise in 2009 and showed some semblance of resurgence in 2012/2013 but has been in steep and steady descent since then. Unfortunately for Akmal and his apologists, time has run out for him, finally.

So Akmal is again demonised for non-cricketing reasons, while Mohammad Hafeez is statistically the Second Worst Test Batsman of All Time, which is just fine!

yeah fitness and failing in every big series is a "non cricketing" reason. got to check the degree of this so called doctor.

LAHORE: Middle-order batsman Umar Akmal has once again failed a fitness test and is expected to miss next month’s International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy, set to be jointly hosted by England and Wales.

The team management, per sources close to the matter, has already sent Umar’s report to the cricket board and asked for left-handed batsman Haris Sohail to be included as his replacement.

It is not the first time the 26-year-old Umar, who is currently in England for the preparation of the mega event, has failed a fitness test; similar issues had seen him dropped from the ODI and T20I squads for the recent West Indies series too.

The Lahore-born cricketer has represented the Men-in-Green in 116 ODIs and scored 3,044 runs at an average of 34.59.

28-year-old Haris, who last represented the national side two years ago, has emerged as the beneficiary of Umar’s failure.

The team management has also asked for pacer Mohammad Abbas’ inclusion in the squad in place of young leg-spinner Shadab Khan.

Abbas produced impressive performances in the recent Test series against West Indies, claiming 15 wickets in three matches at an average of less than 20.

The changes to the final squad are unlikely to need ratification from the ICC as according to tournament rules, teams are allowed to tweak their squads until May 24.

How many hits did he make vs Australia? I am not taking about history, just few month old performance. Hope this makes sense :)

Sharjeel's case verdict is expected anytime next week.

Recent indications suggest the original view we had that Sharjeel may get off lightly seem to be premature. Looks like Sharjeel is in for a long ban

Like who? :13:

Him and Sohail Tanvir were the only ones who failed and Tanvir passed on the second attempt...

Seems like this guy just doesn't care anymore...

Maybe he is depressed or ill and needs help - who knows...

I have criticized Kammy in the past but atleast he seems to be more driven to return and succeed than his younger brother.

Umar Akmal or Aamer Yamin at #6 > Haris Sohail at #6.

No way should Harry be batting at anywhere below 5.

Babar, Haris and Malik should occupy 3,4 and 5 respectively.

If Hafeez has any guts left in him - he should ask the management to let him bat at 6 throughout the CT.

I'm fine with this. As long as Abbas doesn't play.

Oh bhai woh choro... team management has asked for Shadab Khan to be replaced with Muhammad Abbas.

I'd like to see how Markhor defends Mickey Arthur here, or maybe it is Waqar's fault as well.

Are there any videos of these fitness tests ? I always want to know how they are conducted and what is it like. Are these universals or do each team have their own tests ? I wonder how average joes like us would fair along with professional athletes.

Is This a joke or What. If it is yoyo test. Level 6 is light jogging. How on Can one fail that. After level 13 it is a bit difficult

If they wanted Abbas so bad they had the option of dropping Junaid or Wahab, but no the brilliant coach that Mickey Arthur is he wants to drop our best young prospect since Babar Azam.

Thank you Mickey, what would we ever do without you.

:salute

they should send sahibzada farhan. ummer amin will do what he has done in his career so far and then his fans will give us grief about him having to play in 'testing conditions' there where the average odi score of 300 is no longer safe.
haris sohail is fat and unfit or will be unfit and inzi should have learned this by now after akmal jrs debacle.

so, odds are we will indeed find haris sohail being sent,
