The Pakistan Cricket Board's inquiry committee has recommended a three-match ban and fine on batsman Umar Akmal after finding him guilty of breaching three clauses of the players code of conduct.

A PCB official told PTI on condition of anonymity that the inquiry committee, headed by Director Cricket, Haroon Rasheed, had recommended a three-match ban and fine on Umar and also suggested suspending issuance of NOCs for foreign leagues for a certain period.

"The committee, after interviewing Umar and others, found the batsman guilty of breaching three clauses and it has now sent its recommendations to the PCB chairman Najam Sethi for further action," the official said.

Umar had an altercation with Pakistan's head coach Mickey Arthur over practicing at the National Cricket Academy last month.

He later alleged in the media that Arthur had abused him.

The official made it clear that the inquiry committee, which also included the legal advisor of the board, had only focussed on deciding whether Umar beached clauses of the players code of conduct.

"It didn't reflect on the allegations made by Umar against Arthur. It has found the batsman guilty of breaching the code and left it up to the chairman to decide whether a larger inquiry is required for the allegations of use of abusive language by Arthur," the source added.

"Umar breached three clauses by going directly to the media and criticising the head coach," the source said.

According to the official, it is now up to the chairman whether he accepts the inquiry committee recommendations of three-match ban and a fine or go for the maximum punishment allowed for breach of relevant clauses.

"The maximum punishment for these breaches is a five- match ban and a fine of up to five million rupees. Sethi also has the authority to reduce the penalties recommended by the inquiry committee," the official said.

Just tragic, especially when it seems Micky was prepared to work with Umar if Umar would only work on himself

He is just lost, when he should be playing all formats for Pakistan if only he had a half decent work ethic

He needs special psychiatric treatment, his family should seek a specialist for him from the UK or even Australia Junaids ;) I also believe that Umar akmal should take up DDP yoga (@Adil_94 and Red Devil are using it at the moment and it's a godsend going by all the people it has benefited) and meditate, once he is settled on a mental / spiritual level I think it is only then that he can truly be saved and flourish. The man also needs to understand that no one is his enemy and people genuinely want him to do well, needs to also be honest with himself. Just grinding it out at the domestic level wont work because he can score runs against such opposition with his eyes closed soon enough but that's wont translate to the international level but if he strengthens up mentally and works harder he ought to do a lot better then he has in recent times without making any drastic changes technically.

Too leniant.

Should have been at least a six month ban considering his past record as well.

Need at least 1.5 years of ban, if not 2 years. This guy will never rectify with such a small punishment

A three match ban...

So he needs to be selected for Pakistan first and then he will be banned for the first three games? At the moment he is already on a ban of a kind as he isnt being selected, so Im not sure what is the point of banning him!

May be first class matches? Not that it will matter to him anyway.

ohhhh man it is a Three match ban.... the next three matches he has to play.... whether FC LIST A or T20 or international cricket... it is not like he needs to be selected in international squad and then will not play 3 matches.

3-match or a 3-month ban, he won't be playing for Pakistan anytime soon anyway.

can't be bothered with him anymore.. pcb, media& the akmal brigade really need to move on, a new generation is on the rise

Well he is history anyway , his childish mindset made sure that he never became a top cricketer.

Lahore, September 28, 2017: Chairman PCB upon his return from abroad has reviewed the report on Umar Akmal, submitted by the PCB’s Disciplinary Committee. Umar Akmal, Cricketer had appeared before the Committee to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for allegedly violating Clauses 2.2.5, 4.1 and 4.4 of his Central Contract.

The PCB Disciplinary Committee found Umar to be in breach of the aforesaid Clauses of his Central Contract on multiple occasions. Resultantly, Chairman PCB agreed to impose the following sanctions:

Imposition of a three (03) match ban on Umar Akmal from participation in the next international or domestic matches, whichever come first;

Imposition of a Fine amounting to Rs. 1,000,000/- (Pakistan Rupees One Million Only); and

No NOC for participation in any foreign leagues/tournaments/matches be issued to Umar Akmal for a period of two (02) months.

The PCB Chairman, Mr. Najam Aziz Sethi, stated that these sanctions had been awarded with a heavy heart but with the hope that it served as a precedent for all Cricketers who should be mindful of their obligations and the consequences of their actions.

dont want him in team but funny with the emergence of babar and fakhar's lucky outings umar akmal is ostracized, take a look a few years ago on forums, if we still had batting woes then people would be more lenient, just take a look at amir for example

3 matches ban doesn't help anyone - and it doesn't hurt him at all. He'll end up putting more weight after drinking more water during this break.

Make him play every match & force him to train either side of the match time - that's his biggest punishment for him. On a side note double his fine - it'll hurt him somewhat to behave accordingly next time.

Everyone's focusing on the ban but the toughest punishment is actually the revoking of NOCs for two months. He won't be allowed to play in the BPL for all but the last two weeks.

Good outcome and thoroughly deserved for Junior Akmal.

Impressive from PCB,they are getting their house in order, almost like Pak's economy wonder where the money is being pumped from, efficiency also somewhat on the rise.

This ban is next to nothing. So basically any player can publicly abuse and accuse coach or captain for a mere 1 million rupees which os like peanuts for players of this age.
he shouldbe banned for atleast a year plus 5 million fine.
His cricket is finished anyway.

What a stupid punishment.

By all means refuse a NOC so that he can't get rich playing T20 leagues overseas.

But a 3 match ban takes him out of the QEA domestic First Class scene, which is EXACTLY what the PCB should have been FORCING him to play!

Too lenient. Should have been kicked out of cricket for a year for publicly slandering the national coach and being stupid throughout his career
