"Umar Akmal is working hard, he just needs an opportunity" : Kamran Akmal

Asad was averaging in the early 40s when Umar was dropped from the Test side, and he had a habit of producing decent knocks at number 6, while Umar kept on playing dumb shots at crucial stages. I'm old enough to remember all that, as I watched those matches live and know exactly the kind of damage Umar caused during those times.

This is not true. Shafique was averaging 33 when Akmal was dropped, not early 40s.

Take a look at how they each performed when they played against West Indies together, Akmal's last full series.

Akmal averaged 41.50 in that series. Shafique averaged 12. Akmal only played one more test innings after that against Zim and scored 15 and was then dropped for good.

All i can say is that Umar needs to be given on more chance. So that the elder brother can rest in peace.

I agree Umer was harshly dropped but he did not help his cause by continuously regressing as an odi player coupled with disciplinary issues

I wonder how Umar's career would have gone had he been English, Australian or Indian perhaps?
You already know the answer.

Dave Warner is 4 years older than Umar Akmal and has the same combination of huge talent, no brains, no education and a big mouth.

And Australia has got 6300 Test runs out of him.

But the class systems in England and Pakistan see ludicrous attempts to punish him into behaving better. Followed by exclusion.

While India celebrate Virat Kohli acting like a spoilt brat.

About time.

Will be one of our top players against Aus and in England (WC).

Dave Warner is leagues ahead of Umar Akmal so not a valid comparison.

Umar could only dream to be Warner one day.

Bloody hell, the support for Umar Akmal is increasing by the day.

Imagine the disappointment for all this hype, if Umar doesn't do jack in PSL. Bet Asif Ali will be the saviour then :))

Surely you don’t think Sarfaraz and Rizwan are better strikers of the ball than Umar Akmal at the back of the innings?

Pakistan’s discarded wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal believes that his brother and hard-hitting middle-order batsman Umar Akmal has the potential to represent Pakistan at international level.

“Umar is a good player and has strong skills to win matches. He has his natural shorts which help him play long innings,” said Kamran while advising him to concentrate on his game and learn from past mistakes.

The right-handed opening batsman said that despite performing at every stage the Akmal brothers didn’t get enough chances.

“It is unjust with both Umar and Adnan that despite performances they are being overlooked,” he said.

While commenting on not making to teh World Cup’s squad, Kamran said it hurts when there is no reward for a player for his strong performance.

“It not only hurts you but your family too. If you look at my stats then there are no queries as I have been performing at the domestic level,” said Kamran who is determined to not give up.

Kamran, who played for Pakistan in World Cup 2011, highly rated Pakistan’s chances to win the upcoming edition of the World Cup, scheduled from May 30 in England and Wales.

“I think Pakistan team can make it to the top three and if they perform strongly then maybe lift the trophy,” said Kamran.

Kamran represented Pakistan in 53 Tests, 157 ODIs and 58 T20Is.
