Umar Akmal : Our missing star

He should play in the top 3 likes pace on the ball and the power play overs will suit him:

He would be a better option than Imam but he's here to stay 40/90 stats over 40/75 any day.

I’m pretty sure any player who’s not in contention for the WC and performs in the PSL will still not be selected for the WC squad.

The management seems to be more concerned about our bowlers which is where our strength is.
 
Was watching some old Umar Akmal highlights and just remembering how good and how much of an impact player he was, an in form umar akmal would fit in perfect in our side, imagine a steady player like Barbar Azam batting along an impact player like Umar Akmal. Unfortunately it seems Umar’s worst enemy is himself as it seems that when he was batting really well he did not want to improve and thought he was untouchable. Sadly his work ethic has really let him down

Umar of 2009 to 2011 was a different player altogether.
 
umer became sloger.
the role which was given to him during his career had deteriorated his batting.
he would have been perfect no.4 for us
 
I have not seen Umar play in years. How is his batting form? And how good of a keeper.os he? (He just has to be decent at least)

In the recent FC tournament final he scored a 100 and a 50 followed by a decent stint in the T10 league in UAE where I think he opened the batting.
 
Time for Umar Akmal in T20’s?

With an impact less lower middle order, it seems that this T20 team relies heavily upon a good start from Fakhar and Babar, apart from those two and Hafeez, we lack a proper dynamic player, Imad is a good striker but is of course a bowler first. THEREFORE.. I know he’s got a bad past but IF he has a good PSL I think Umar Akmal needs to come back in the T20 team and could be used as a backup keeper instead of Rizwan. The guy is a proper dynamic impact player who can take on most attacks, poor attitude I know but who else do we have!?
 
Tallat is still young and hopefully can improve but after today’s performance I think he needs to be dropped for a bit.

I don’t think he’s the finished article and therefore not ready for international level YET. not a behaviour issue as I don’t think he played with a lesser strike rate on purpose I think he simply just wasn’t able enough.

I think few players come as finished articles in to the game. They play and they improve. His issues are what they are but he didn’t throw it away. You improve on that by playing more not less

Very valid point, but in this context I don’t feel Hussain has looked Comfortable out there and hasn’t really looked in command, and today’s innings was against a poor attack. Some players when they first come into the scene you can tell even though they’re rookies you can just tell that they belong I.e Shaeen Afridi. Back to Hussain Tallat, I think he needs another season or two to be a regular in the squad, as I feel potential wise at this moment in time there maybe better rookie options.

Yes, the guy has a terrible attitude but he’s still the impact player we need, played some really good knocks for us in the past T20 tournaments although he had a forgettable last T20 cup in the game we got knocked out.

He has won us games in T20 world cups. And he's better against pace compared to Malik and Asif Ali.

Rizwan isn’t good enough in LOI, neither is Rohail Nazir.

PCB are busy trying to ban their greatest LOI wicket keeper batsman for 3 years for not reporting spot/match fixing approach. On the other hand, Sharjeel Khan got a one year ban for actually doing the crime.

It’s time we bring him back.

Umar akmal would have got out long before the equation became 6 of 1, unless you are asking if he just walks into that equation, i would have anyone over UA after the 2 golden ducks in his comeback.
 
When half your team is almost out for less than 50 in a t20, and Umar Akmal isn’t in the team. Who are we scapegoating now? Shadab?

Blessed with all the shots and power game. Earlier in his career he was a fast runner and a fantastic rotator of strike as well. But he just isn't mentally mature to play international cricket. He just doesn't have the sense, composure, awareness and desire to comprehend anything.
 
He should have played 70 or 80 Tests by now, a few hundred ODIs and lots more T20Is.

He has to accept responsibility for what has happened to his career and where it has ended up.

He could and should have been a very good batsman for Pakistan with more discipline and direction.

However, I feel we've not seen the last of him in a Pakistan shirt.

I remember the initial years in his career, was such a treat to watch and was one of our match winners. Such a shame that he’s let that talent go to waste.
 
He lacked the self discipline, temperament and unfortunately a sufficient number of brain cells to have a successful international career. His supporters come up with so many excuses but honestly he only has himself to blame. What a waste.

There's a real dearth of batters who can time the ball well and hit effort-less boundaries. We've tried so far:
1. Asif Ali
2. Maqsood
3. Azam Khan
4. Iftikhar

Barring Iftikhar, who has done reasonably well, everyone else has failed as a hitter.

And, all are much worse than Umar Akmal.

So, why don't we give him a decent rope? He's eager and hungry to return + perform.

He’s definitely hungry these days all right. I don’t know if it’s to perform though.

I knew someone would pick it up.

But, he's definitely not hungrier than Azam Khan. How come the epitome of 'unfitness' gets selected to play for the national team?

At least Umar can hit some well timed boundaries. And not just slog on the leg side.
 
Umar Akmal doesn’t need to perform in domestic cricket to get into this team, we know what he can do, yes he can be inconsistent but it’s all about the intent.

If Umar Akmal was available then I would’ve picked him in the T20’s, and anyone talking about his fitness need to realise there’s no fitness standards in Pakistan, even overweight cricketers can get picked.

The last time Umar Akmal played an impact full Knock for Pakistan was in Jan 2016 in a T20 against NZ. The last time Umar Akmal was consistent was in 2014 Asia Cup and then the champions league in India.

Since then he has completely regressed batting wise. Don't think anyone takes him seriously anymore

How come that matters.

Everyone we've tried has failed and did much worse than Umar.

Khushdil, Maqsood, Asif, etc. Umar is better than them.

You say player x should only get picked if they’ve performed in domestic cricket, well guess what, Umar Akmal was the leading run scorer in the 2019 Pakistan Cup.😬 you should be in favour of his return, no? Or does domestic performances not hold any value for you now?

Umar Akmal: 5 Games, 342 Runs, 85 Ave, 140 SR.

He's not played any cricket for the last 2 years. He will need to perform in domestic cricket first along with needing to slog it in the gym to get fit. So far it looks like the PCB wants to stay clear of him

Of course, but has he regressed from 2016 if he was the leading run scorer in the Pakistan cup and also top 10 run scorers in the FC season prior to his ban, averaging more than the likes of Shan and Shafiq.
 
If Umar is mentally sane and can shed a bit of weight, he walks into this side over Maqsood and Azam Khan at least.

People forget that he is also one of the most reliable boundary riders in Pakistan

How long before we see threads "Asif Ali: Our missing star" or "Haider Ali: Our Missing Star". I am not a big fan of Misbah but a lot of players like Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Khusdil Shah, Naseem Shah, Faheem Ashraf and co have been given opportunities, the players have not grabbed it with both hands. This clearly shows that our domestic cricket is just not up to par.
 
No need to bring him back, its too late for him now. And nothing will change as he will be still given that sloggers role at number 6-7 and the story will be same again as he does not fits into that position at all.
 
Umar Akmal can score 20 runs from an over on a given day..
 
Umar Akmal was him.

There was always massive anticipation when he came on strike. You knew as a spectator that was something was about to happen. He had that X factor that very few Pakistan batsmen have had after Afridi, Razzaq
 
He can still perform well at the highest level but I don't think we are going to see him play any more international matches for team Pakistan.
 
I mean if our middle order is composed of Shadab, chacha, Agha and faheem/Nawaz, I don't see why umar can't play.

A medicore bat is still superior to the tail ending middle order that we havem
 
The tragedy that was Umar Akmal, what a player when he came onto the scene , he should be in his prime years playing for us right now , if he was disciplined and worked hard on his game and kept playing at the level he was on, he would be captain today.

I don’t think he’s a bad fella but it seems that he did not want to work on his game and accept criticism

Some of those shots yaar even the commies would go nuts .

PCB also know this.

Umar Akmal has finished now, we have to look someone who can bring some power hitting abilities down the order, we cant rely only on Iftikhar.

What if he gets injured, who would be our replacement?
 
You can't just re-select Umar Akmal.
That would be a huge injustice to him and to Pakistan Cricket.

Umar Akmal should be brought back as captain, coach, chief selector and PCB chief with Kamran as his assistant. Then we'll see us lifting the odi World Cup as well as thrashing the Aussies 3-0 in tests in their own backyard

Yeah I don't think we gave Umar Akmal enough chances. He only had 121 ODIs to make his mark, let's give him ODI #122 because there are literally no new options so we have to go back :p

Yes and he should also be appointed as our prine minister and president as well. I'm sure this man will also single handedly fix our economy and load shedding problems.
 
The whole thread about umar akmal is weird. He's a has been, he ain't doing anything anymore but if you have a lower middle order of shadab, Chacha, Nawaz, Agha and faheem, them even current Umar is leaps and bounds ahead of these guys.

But in all honesty, we have good players, it's our nepotistic culture that's the problem. Bits and pieces zindabad. If you want a lower order hitter, bring imad back.
 
Umer wasted himself. He could be anything from the best lower-order batsman to an explosive finisher. But he chose the order way around. So sad to see such talent getting wasted.
