Umar Akmal : Our missing star

This guy just like his elder brother wasted his potential
His time is long over

Umer wasted himself. He could be anything from the best lower-order batsman to an explosive finisher. But he chose the order way around. So sad to see such talent getting wasted.
Not really. He wasn't a finisher or a lower order batter. Misbah ruined his career by playing 1990 brand of cricket. Can you imagine scoring a 100 at no 3 and then being relegated to no 6 and have asad shafiq take your place?

However I do agree, that despite his unfair treatment the drama bazi that came after pretty much ended his career for good.

Let’s admit it.
Everyone in his life has loved Umar Akmal at some point.

This is a fact.

Not love but I would say that I liked Umar Akmal when he first came onto the scene. Aggressive and thrashed the mighty Aussies as well. Poor guy, he ruined himself.

i would rather have chris martin than this guy

Chris Martin would have been a better option than Misbah in tournament knockouts as getting out for a duck would have helped Pakistan win matches Misbah made impossible to win with his strike rate.

Na, 7 months after his debut, i saw how he would throw his wicket. This was during the 2010 series in england. I called it than that this guy is over rated and so was younis khan in odis.

Back in 2010, the unar akmal fans and younis khan fans were a cult. Anything you say against these two players they would start to bash you.

Younis khan fans were crazy, but umar akmal fans were just next level crazy.

From umar akmal to sohaib maqsood, what i have learned is that players dont improve later on. Only performing players improve, and the players that suck they stay that way. It takes only a few games to judge whether a player would succeed or not. Some players need an extended rope like ifti , while guys umar akmal show that yhey will fail.

For example, kamran Ghulam is a guy who is more than likely to fail at international level

Why do you say kamran Ghulam is likely to fail? I havent seen much of him, so I can't really say.

But weren't people begging to draft him into the test side? Although I saw posters saying he should stick to test only.

For a player to succeed internationally he needs to score big in domestic and with Pakistan A or Pakistan team.

Players who score 30-40s and even get a 50, are more than likely to fail later in their career.

Asad Shafiq is the best example. Shafiq never really scored big with Pakistan A, his scores used to be 40s-50 and international cricket he had same scores. Once in a while he would get a 100, but when a players top ceiling is 40-50, thus, when he does bad like scoring 30, than he is more than likely to get dropped.

Sohaib Maqsood had the same issue at international where he would get 40s-50s and later on sucked at batting

Kamran Ghulam is somewhat similar, as he doesnt play big innings. If he is getting 40s and 50s against Zimbabwe than he is not going do much at international leve.

Now someone will mention Misbah, but Misbah used to score big in domestic, and thus in international his 50s 60 and 70s were consisstent.

Whatever a player scores in domestic or Pakistan A, he will score lesser than that in international.

Yh I get it and I agree with it. Also I don't discredit misbah as a batsmen. I hate his nepotistim lol. But atleast he wasn't a clueless.

He should have only been the test captain though, he was a gun test player. Odi he was consistent but the same 1990 era style batting.

He was a masterclass captain.
Be it t20, odi or test. Infact, he was better T20 and Odi captain than Test.

His strategy in ODI and T20 was increasing the run per ball margin from ball 1. So basically to do this, what he would do was if Shaheen was bowling well from one end, from the other end Misbah would bring in a spinner from over no.2. Openers wont attack spinners as that requires foot work and openers lack footwork. So the dot balls increase and the margin also increases.

The biggest problem right now with the Naseem and Shaheen strategy is that too much attacking leaves us vulnerable. Just because Shaheen picks up a wicket in the first over in last couple of games it does not mean you bowl the first over of every game by him. Stupid strategy, look if the conditions warrant for such a strategy.

Babar would never deploy a spinner with the new ball from either end cause that doesnt look good on tv and plus he doesnt know how to captain.

The game against Sri Lanka could had been won if we increased the margin by getting a spinner bowl with the new ball.

Misbah all his life defended small targets, and he knew how to do it.

Umar Akmal was a star and is a star of Pakistan cricket. He has grabbed alot of opportunities during his permanent position in PCT. Now it's all over for him. Because he is not consistently playing domestic and PSL. And his fitness is not upto the mark which is basic requirement for today's modren cricket. Yes he has shown his abilities in previous edition of PSL yet he is not right rider for middle order. Pakistan Cricket need long term middle order batter. And Saud Shakeel is strong contender for it

I already agree with misbah being the king of chasing low totals.

It doesn't change the fact that he deliberately advocated asad, Ahmed and hafeez at the top with younis or azhar or someone else in the middle with strikers at the lower order.

He outright defended nasir jamshed over sarfraz even though sarfraz had proven himself as a superior bat. He also crippled us in the CT 2013 by advocating certain selections like Imran farhat opening etc.

As I said before misbah > Babar as a captain.

Misbah was nepotsitic but Babar is nepotistic, Selfish, Clueless and made it his sole mission to injure everyone in our squad.

king of defending low totals, not chasing.

One of my abiding Umar Akmal memories - Misbah cursing him for declining a second run in some ODI in the Caribbean.

I replay that clip for a chuckle about once a year :ROFLMAO:
