sarfraz is a world class wk batsman but what do we have after him? i think it is very important to focus on this aspect because we do not want a situation where sarfraz's retirement leaves a big hole in the team. yes he still has many years left at the top but we need to look at long term talents as well. rizwan was one but his performances have been very poor. does not look good for international level at all.

i think it is very important that we identify some 20-21 year old wk batsmen who can replace sarfaz 5-6 years from now. take them on tours and give them practice games.

we keep hearing about new batsmen new bowlers new spinners etc but we do not focus on new keepers. even in 2 psl seasons not a single new wk batsmen has emerged and made an impact like fakhar shadab etc which i think is disappointing. i think psl teams should start picking young wk batsmen instead of 30 year olds who have no future for pak because of sarfraz and will probably retire before him.

so who are the best young wk batsmen in the country and why have the failed to perform in the psl?

That U-19 kid, Umair Masood I think looked like all class with the bat and quite adept behind the stumps as well.

Then there is Muhammad Hasan who has played a few gun, backs-against-the-wall type of innings in the lower order. His keeping is excellent.

Ruhail Nazir is another one to look out for. Made one of the squads in the Pakistan Cup and is only 15/16.

it is very important that umair Masood gets a psl contract next season. just checked his profile he is from pindi. islamabad united need to give him opportunity brad haddin is very old now.

Probably not 16. Last week I heard from a young player who told me that in Pindi when he was 14 Shadab Khan was 16, he is now 20 and Shadab is 18!

Is this the same Muhammad Hasan who is taking part in the NCA Camp?

If so, thanks for the info about him. Looks an aggressive player (needs to work on his average though).

Not sure about your first question.

I think he has a pretty mediocre average primarily because he bats as low as 8-10. Our domestic teams are worst at nurturing talent. Seniority culture reigns supreme.

1. Sarfraz
2. Rizwan
3. Hasan
4. Afridi
5. Masood

Something like that I'm not too sure though.

failure at international level. such poor technique and ok keeper at best.

He is a neat keeper much better than Sarfaraz and has a good fitness. Though it can't be denied that he needs to improve on his batting.

Havent seen Umair so cant comment other than that nothing to write about.

Two good keepers in 2010-2012 era were Jamal Anwar (Rawalpindi) and Mohammad Waqas (Karachi). Both are still relatively young but havent followed them recently.

Saifullah Bangash is another name- I think he was in one of the PSL squads (can't remember which one).

can't say much about his batting, but he is our best keeper. Easily better than sarfaraz.

keeping in tests is different to keeping short formats. rizwan is not a good wk vs spin and he will be exposed in test cricket. sarfraz is much better than him in all facets
