The number keeps growing.

It has a capacity of 50,000 spectarors.

Looks vert good from the early images. Hopefully we get to see an IPL team in this region too. Central India is 1/4th of India population wise and yet has no team of its own in the IPL.

I am sure PAK’s first Test win was at Lucknow (Isn’t the spelling Lakhnaow?), but may be other stadium - it’s been 66 years since.

You're right bro. It was at the University Ground. This is 3rd stadium to host an international in Lucknow. You pronounced it correct but for strange reasons its spelled like i did.

British have thumped their authority is every aspect of our life - including names. Not only city (Dhaka became Dacca, Chottogram became Chittagong, Srihotto became Sylhet, Momenshahi became Mymensingh, Bogura became Bogra, Jashohor because Jessore, Rangapur became Rangpur ....), but they actually forced to change Shanskrit based names as well - Chatterjee, Banarjee, Mukherjee, Bhotto, Sanyal, Paul (Paal) ..... one of the most common Hindu/Muslim title is Shorkar, which is easy to spell as well - God knows why British changed it to Sirker. May be, when you need to brutally suppress people, you need to demoralize them in every bit of their freedom.

Why is Shomo spelt like Soumya? It is presumed by many non Bengalis as Sumayya which is a female name.

His actually spelling isn't possible in English, Soumya is probably closest - his name sounds similar to Soumitra Chatterjee. Shomo or Sumayya are totally different names, different meaning. Soumya is a male name actually.

Three excellent additions this series - Guwahati, Thiruananthpuram and Lucknow. IPL shuld soon consider adding a UP based IPL franchise. Will have plenty of interest. Lava Group (mobile handset assemblers) could own it (their owner is from Ghazipur in UP).

Hopefully no more matches at Green Park, Kanpur which looks like an eye sore with not much renovation.

How about promotion/relegation system in IPL? Every city will have their team and will play in minor domestic teams and the winner gets qualified for IPL and the bottom team of IPL gets relegated to the minor league?

Terrific scenes! Very professional work. Well done BCCI. Well done UPCA.

Well done Akhilesh Yadav. It was his dream project after all. Credit where it’s due. Ex UP minister took many great initiatives and now useless Yogi Adityanath all he can do is inaugurate and name change.

I am loving the long boundaries. Tgis is a big ground.

More than the stadium, it is the size of the ground that, for me, is encouraging. Hate those coin sized ones.

Looks quite big and beautiful. Must have long boundaries.

Well present CM has announced even bigger stadium in ghaziabad, with 75000 capacity.

when pakistan will be able to built a stadium as good as indians have

Lahore stadium was great back in the day. With bit of investment in maintenance I’m sure it’s a world class venue.

What about Multan stadium? It was beautiful.

Karachi?

And there’s a new stadium coming up in Islamabad I heard it is magnificent.

Don’t compare. We envy foreign venues. Most Indian venues are ugly concrete jungles.

Looks ugly, Aussies grounds are better and can hold multiple sports, Indian grounds are disgusting.

Proving such a tool this BJP Sangh is. How many international stadiums does UP need? There is one in Noida as well. Egoistic and stupid are all these BJP politicians like their bhakts.

Multan for sure has a great stadium but i want to see something in kashmir or abbotabad in these areas there PCB can invest and build world class stadiums with some investment

Looks great. Trouble with big stadia is the use, will they get enough matches to actually justify the cost?

You aren't going to get packed houses in FC cricket.

This is why it’s high time IPL is expanded to 10-14 teams minimum. More franchises need to come up to support and sustain the infrastructure.

Thanks to BCCI’s rotation wise it will take ages for a venue to get another international match.

For certain the IPL should have 10-12. But is there a market for 14 or more? Also, when you talk about 14 teams the length will extend to 3.5-4 months. This leave only a 8 month window for international matches and other T20 leagues.

14 teams with 2 grps, length remain the same, top two rch ko stage from each.

Don't be a blind hater. UP population is almost equal to Pakistan or even more. It can easily sustain 3 stadiums. You were praising that corrupt akhilesh for making a stadium and when came to know that adityanath is coming up with other, you suddenly changed the tone. Noida one is not being used for international matches for India. It holds matches for Afghanistan. Ghaziabad is perfect for making 75000 capacity stadium as it is part of largest urban area of India NCR.

2 groups!!

Old motera stadium is being renovated to accomodate 110,000 seating capacity. It will be world's biggest cricket stadium with multiple other facilities like 3 indoor practice pitches.

Are you serious?

A modern day state of art stadium with 1 lakh capacity seems huge. Eden Gardens sufferer dramafically after renovation. It’s seating capacity got deducted to 70000 when it could keep 1,20,000 people in at one point.

It may host few IPL matches. Would definitely get semi final or final of 2023 WC.
They are developing sports arena, would help in budding young talents as well. I read there is olympic sized swimming pool and badminton courts etc.
With our huge population base, it can challenge MCC as Its not a new stadium it has hosted many historic matches in the last 25 years.

With Modi most probably returning to power for a second term in 2019 i am sure he will ensure Motera stadium gets to host a big match.
