But USA did well against India. Even with completely alien conditions in SL against Pakistan who were playing in tailor made conditions they did alright.

Half-centuries from Saiteja Mukkamalla and a brilliant four-wicket spell by Harmeet Singh powered United States of America (USA) to a commanding 93-run win over Netherlands in the 21st match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.

Chasing a challenging target of 197, the Dutch side struggled throughout their innings and were bowled out for just 103 in 15.5 overs.

Bas de Leede top-scored for Netherlands with a quick 23 off 17 balls, while skipper Scott Edwards contributed 20 from 14 deliveries. Max O'Dowd (13) and Roelof van der Merwe (10) were the only other batters to reach double figures.

Harmeet Singh starred with the ball for USA, claiming 4 for 21 in his four overs. Shadley van Schalkwyk provided excellent support with three wickets, while Mohammad Mohsin picked up two and Nosthush Kenjige added one to wrap up the innings.

Earlier, Netherlands captain Scott Edwards opted to field first, but the decision did not pay off as USA posted an imposing 196/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

USA had a cautious start, losing opener Shayan Jahangir for 20 to Kyle Klein in the third over with the score at 27. Captain Monank Patel then steadied the innings alongside Mukkamalla, putting together a solid 45-run stand for the second wicket before Patel departed in the ninth over.

Patel fell to a well-disguised slower ball from Bas de Leede after scoring 36 off 22 balls, including three fours and a six. Soon after, Fred Klaassen dismissed Sanjay Krishnamurthi for one, leaving USA at 105/3 in 11 overs.

Mukkamalla continued to anchor the innings and added 54 runs for the fourth wicket with Shubham Ranjane before being dismissed by de Leede, who was the pick of the Dutch bowlers with figures of 3/37 in four overs.

Mukkamalla was the standout batter for USA, smashing 79 off 51 balls, featuring five boundaries and four sixes.

After his departure, Ranjane accelerated in the final overs, finishing unbeaten on 48 from 24 deliveries, striking three fours and two sixes to guide USA to a formidable total.

For Netherlands, Logan van Beek, Fred Klaassen and Kyle Klein claimed one wicket each in addition to de Leede’s three-wicket haul.

USA would have likely gotten trounced in the Super 8s just like they did last time. Associates can pull of 1-2 good performances but don't have it in them to sustain it. You can't blame them because it all boils down to lack of exposure. Like other associates they don't have that experience of being in tough situations. That said, these teams being in the first round is a must and greatly enhances the quality of the tournament, as it has thus far. Hopefully some more upsets happen like the Zimbabwe-Australia one.

Which is fine if you ask me. Playing and getting trounced by the big boys is the first step to winning against the big boys. Sri Lanka did this ... got trounced by so many countries in 80s and even early 90s but eventually crafted history in 1996. Otherwise it is mostly Associate wins and the relegation of being a medium-big fish in a small pond.
