When Noora won 5 years ago, it was 92/93, I predicted by the time he leaves in 5 years, it will be 120. In 2007 it was 60. Then i ytwent to to 90 by the time Zardari left.

Last 10 years of democracy, rupee has lost 100% of its worth.

Well done Pakistani politicians.

Should have been allowed to depreciate a long time ago. The rupee being at 120 isn't what N League should be blamed for, they should be blamed for not lwtting it happen earlier. One of the most r-word (I hate usong thta word but it applies too perfectly here) moves by a Pakistani government since the China FTA was that jackass Ishaq Dar artificially inflating the rupee to fool idiotic voters who think a strong rupee is a good thing. Off course the policy has proven ruinous (its responsible in no small part for our eye popping trade deficit). PKR should have beeb around 125 to a dollar a long time ago.

It is not necessarily a bad thing. The high exchange rate will make Pakistan's exports more competitive. In addition, the remittances made by overseas Pakistanis will greatly increase in value.

So now the houses in Pakistan will cost less? Yay!
Why? Were the houses built using imported materials in pakistan? If they were built using Pakistani raw materials it will actually get costlier as you will see some increases inflation and the expats investing more in real estate

What if the overseas Pakistanis adjust their remittance according to the currency rate?

No possibility of financial crisis in the country, says Miftah Ismail

ISLAMABAD: Minister of Finance Miftah Ismail on Sunday reiterated there was no possibility of imposition of a financial emergency in the country.

Ismail, who was inducted as the finance minister ahead of the federal budget announcement for fiscal year 2018-19 earlier this week, said although Pakistan’s economy was not doing too well, it was not doing badly either.

Addressing an event earlier today, he informed that Pakistan has acquired a long-term loan of US$1 billion from a commercial bank of a friendly country.

On the recent spike in the dollar, Ismail lamented that there was no other option available.

Highlighting the relief announced in the Budget 2018-19, the minister said it would help increase the tax base and give an impetus to national growth.

Taxes in the real estate sector have been rationalised in order to encourage people to declare the real worth of their properties, he said.

Commenting on the new tax slabs recently announced by the Prime Minister, Ismail said the tax procedure has not only been simplified but its rate also reduced to facilitate the taxpayers.

On a question regarding increasing the petroleum levy, the finance minister said the government will pass on the reduction of international oil prices as it did in previous years.
