Karachi police on Tuesday dismissed four policemen from service for harassing and manhandling a couple at Karachi's Sea View, said SSP South Pir Mohammed Shah.

A policeman in uniform can be seen in a video — available with the media and shared on social media — while manhandling a woman and trying to snatch a cell phone from the man who was recording the video. "I was standing with my wife when they [policemen] came and demanded money while pointing guns [at us]," the man can be heard saying in the video.

SSP Shah said that the incident took place on Sunday morning. He said that three policeman were found directly involved in the incident, adding that few policemen bring a bad name to the entire force.

He said that ASI Zulfiqar Ali came to Sea View while abandoning his duty. The ASI and policemen Ahmed Khan, Zahid and Qurban have been dismissed from service.

"The fourth policemen, Qurban, was not on the spot but is hand in gloves with the rest of three," said the SSP.

"Initial investigation reveals that the four policemen used to work as a gang to harass and extort couples."

He also asked people who experienced such "unfortunate behaviour" by the police to come forward and report their ordeal. He assured that strict action would be taken against those involved. He mentioned that earlier four personnel of the Police Qaumi Razakars (PQR) force were arrested and later punished for extorting money from couples at Sea View.

Earlier in the day, Clifton SP Sohai Aziz said that police constable Ahmed Khan had been assigned duty at the mausoleum of Abdullah Shah Gazi, whereas Assistant Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar was appointed at Security-2 [District South] — but both the policemen went to Sea View while abandoning their duties.

She had added that both the policemen were served show-cause notices. "The complainant wants departmental action against the two policemen," she said.

"There are strict instructions from the high-ups to not ask for nikahnama [marriage certificate] from couples," she said, adding that policemen had been clearly instructed that "they are not supposed to engage in moral policing".

That is literally frightening, the way he starts loading the semi automatic to fire on a guy who's got him on camera. And he's only been fired? So he can become a goon for the likes of Altaf and carry on what he's already doing?

Weapons in the hand of these irresponsible policemen are directly dangerous. They got away very cheaply with only losing their job.

No one in this country trusts or respects policemen. I too have been in situations where I wished I had a semi automatic so I could blast off these criminals and thugs who wear a uniform.

Bhai control haha not really worth it. The best way is to expose them on social media. That is the most effective way these days.

Just a complete absence of standards. Probably inadequate training and unsuitable characters getting the job in the first place, more than likely due to nepotism or bribery.

Like others have said, it's hard to respect and trust the police in Pakistan. They've been known to be corrupt and complicit with gangs and terrorists at various points. The Police enforcement agencies are centuries behind what the current standard is.

Chaudhry Aslam Khan, now that guy was a true cop. Too bad India/Raw decided to assassinate one of our heroes.

Well at least they got fired. We have to take our wins whichever way and wherever we can get them. We have seen ‘encounter’ specialists glorified as saviours in Karachi in the past.

Aren't most of the cops there sindhi? I doubt they would join an enemy political party

Ch Aslam was another Rao Anwar. Encounter specialist.

Rightly dismissed! How can that Psychopath think its ok to pull out an AK47 on civilians??

Putting the corruption and subsequent dismissals to one side, how brave was the male filming the police!

I’m pretty sure most people would be petrified being faced with a gun and would be apprehensive about standing up to them. This male showed bravery and courage and put his life at risk for honour.

Well done

Sorry there's no comparison. Rao Anwar was as corrupt as they come. He worked for the PPP government. He was involved in land-grabbing. He was also fearful of facing the consequences of all his corruption and tried to escape from Pakistan. Garbage cop and human being.

Chaudhry Aslam Khan was taking out members of TTP. He took out the Baloch gang who were being protected by PPP. He took out people that worked for MQM and ANP that were involved in violent crime. The man had no fear and wasn't being protected by anyone. Yes he was an encounter specialist but you wouldn't question his moral compass.

You want to live in delusions then be my guest. How does a sub inspector promoted to SP get enough money to buy houses and plots in DHA? For gods sake, start asking questions.

It's a third world country, for all we know it might be quite common.

Actually this, bilawals and nawaz's protocol can kill the children & the same night their parents offered govt jobs which they happily accept. No respect for a common man in third world countries.

Hundreds of these incidents happen on daily basis & hardly one or two highlighted (courtesy of social media) and I have many doubts that they are actually dismissed or just move here & there for time being.

PPP paid Chaudhry Aslam Khan to get rid of their own military wing?

Or did the Nooras pay him to get rid of their friends in LeJ/TTP?

Or MQM paid him to kill their own goons?

You're clearly implying something but you have no idea what you're trying to imply.
