Seems to have a lot of time to play his shots, and good placement too playing shots on both sides of the wicket. Hits the ball cleanly, not blindly hacking across the line with bottom hand.

Could be a star of the 2020/21 season.

He is special and you could see that on his Twitter videos and this innings just solidifies his talent and potential.

Hope he carries on like this and I’m sure he will get selected soon.

The shot he played at 1:46...

I could watch that all day long. Artistic.

wow, hate to get excited about young pak players but he read the googly, and he read the slower ball and dispatched them both, seems to have a great eye. i hope he keeps his head down and keeps working hard, looks like the most complete debutant ive seen in pak.

is he the first player to hit a hundred in his debut first class and t20?

Talent is definitely there.... Hope he finds the right coaches and mentorship. Also keeps himself grounded.

First time seeing him bat.

Comes across as a heavy bottom handed player, comfortable in front of square and spinners, has lazy elegance while playing shots.

Having said the above, I'm disappointed with bowling and fielding standards on this opening day which makes the batsmen seem more good than they are. Also I always avoid jumping on any hype wagon as end result is never good. A hype can only be justified after a season of cricket till then everyone should remain nobody.

On Abdullah, he needs to work on short pitch bowling if we go with those highlights above. Also I feel test matches would be his preferred place to be in. Lastly, he would achieve everything or he would achieve nothing depends on his willingness to put in physical and mental hardwork. No hardwork no career.

Fantastic innings. First Pakistani in a while where the hype appears to be justified. He clearly loves batting and is really motivated. I think we might have the next Babar on our hands.

Post-match comments.

Great prospect.

Has to keep working on his game, but that's a solid foundation to build from in terms of skill.

Let's see how he does in the coming games and season.

Thanks Abdullah- I was looking for it. 55 balls hundred isn’t that rare in T20, but 44 of those from boundaries, which needs lots, lots of skill. Looks like Bullet Drive at least has hit something this time.

Having time to play your shots is always a good sign.

He also has power hitting ability and some finesse with his shots.

Looks a good prospect.

I am so used to BA and his beautiful shots that this one looks kinda meh :sree

But good on him

This is a great day for Pakistani batting prospects. First Zeeshan, now Abdullah. Great stuff!

Excellent innings seems like has alot of time to play.also has the ability to hit big and didnt play dot deliveries defo one to look out for hope he Carry it on !

Have been tagging you in his videos for the past year

Trust me this guy is world class

Did you watch the video? And what are your thoughts

I always listen mostly to yours Junaids and Mamoon view point. Guys what are your thoughts on Abdullah?

Lets hope he sees this as the start and not the pinnacle of his career. He is the type of player that should be playing against Zimbabwe, and along with Zeeshan and few others he needs to be quickly inducted into the national side. Its not as if the team has any decent players besides Babar.

Trust me he doesn't care about innings. He wants to be a great test player.

Hundred in debut in first class cricket and now hundred on debut in t20 cricket

Impressive , one to watch out for

I see what you did there ;) better for this kid to stay away from the Pak side until a regime change.

hopefully will b in MS ... or Qalandars...

tht lofted drive to Irfan straight over his head was just waow...

had the courage to advance down the track to Irfan which not many would dare in international cricket let on debut

looks to have a weakness for short ball on his ribs...

Looks a great prospect..
Hope they pick him against Zimbabwe.
Top order consisting of Haider, Zeeshan and this lad would be the way to go.

By the way, its a little strange how this thread is missing our local Mr Half Glass Full, wanting better things for Pakistan but at the same time slagging them off to the hilt. Also, any of our Indian Friends willing to offer their opinion? After all they're known for producing great batsmen.

A top 4 of Babar, Zeeshan, Haider and Abdullah should win more matches than a top 4 of Babar, Fakhar, Hafeez and Malik in T20s.

Wow this guy looks a class act. Pure elegance. Really excited to see him develop. Inshallah he has a bright future ahead of him.

Exciting talent. Hopefull gets a psl contract as that is the only way misbah will consider him ahead of malik or fakhar who havent preformed in ages.

Impressive stroke-play for a Pakistani batsman. He will definitely get games in the PSL next season but he should not consider it as a shortcut to international cricket like so many others and instead make FC cricket his prime focus.

Also, I highly doubt if he is only 20.

Both him and Haider Ali need to grind in FC cricket and not aim to become PSL superstars. That is what India has done so well with their young batsmen - most of their young batsmen are really good long format players with very sound foundations, and they don’t fast-track batsmen with below par FC records.

There is a reason why a dynamic white ball batsman like Sanju Samson is yet to play a Test or even an ODI for India. He needs to do more in FC cricket, a platform where he has not done justice to his ability yet.

On the contrary, we get seduced by PSL heroics and fast-track players with 5-6 FC matches and below par record in the format then we act surprised when they get exposed.

Preformance in t20s merits a place in the t20i side similar to how sanju samson as well recieved t20i cap however i do agree that Odi and test debuts can only be handed out when there are preformances in list A and first class cricket. Shaheen and Naseem should also have had first class experience before they were drafted into the test side but pcb had no choice due to Wahab and Amir retiring.

Looks a good prospect, proper cricket strokes.

But for first time ever in history of PP, Mamoon talks sense where he says this kid has to be nurtured properly and not just fast tracked to highest level after a few inns.

Any tips you'd give him?

Would also love to hear MMHS and Junaids thoughts

Asad Shafique when he plays freely and without pressure is a pretty good stroke player, it’s surely a confidence thing that he can’t deliver these kind of performances at international level.

U can’t judge a batsman’s age in all that gear. Watch his interview with Shan Masood, he looks young in that.

didnt get going at all today, hassnain kept him on the back foot and he looked a bit uncomfortable. maybe thats the pitch..

also dont like the dancing down the pitch routine when under pressure, reminds me of ahmed shahzad, one thing i like about haider is that he stays planted and balanced when hitting even against spinners.

he needs to cut this out, otherwise top quality spinners will know exactly how to induce a mistake from him, esp on slower pitches.

Struggled today, but it's all part of the learning process I guess.

Asad Shafique when he plays freely and without pressure is a pretty good stroke player, it’s surely a confidence thing that he can’t deliver these kind of performances at international level.

he lacks the ability to pick the length of the ball early and doesnt have wrist and bat-grip control like the top players have. An example is how he has struggled to correct his close faced defence throughout his career.
So all in all, no it is not just a confidence thing, but a lack of ability that has him where he is.

Scored at 70 strike rate today after some posters wanted him in the international team after one innings.

PP hype machine in full effect
:salute

Let these youngsters score big runs before putting them on the radar for selection.

He will.

But he clearly is a TEST/ODI batsman

One alarming sign for PAK young batsmen is their struggle against spin - any type. Decent hitters through the line on belters but against spinners they are struggling, particularly against flight & loop.

Good that different wickets are prepared......let the full tournament complete....then we can draw any conclusion
