[VIDEO] Abhinandan's capture mocked in advert by Jazz for Pakistan's World Cup clash against India

I get that this ad may be considered offensive by an insecure nation but how come some have called it as ‘racist’??

I get that this ad may be considered offensive by an insecure nation but how come some have called it as ‘racist’??

I mean there is no denying that Abhinandan was slightly darker skin tone, they have an issue with the actor having his face artificially darkened.

Calm down. I am not even Indian, so stop using "You guys".

It seems like you are in denial if you think that Pakistanis do not care about their shameful 0-11 record against India in limited overs world cup. If it is not true then why does everyone from Pakistan's chief selector to the captain of the national side specifically mention beating India? Why is Misbah's legacy losing games in 2007 and 2011?

You can deny as much as you want but it really hurts Pakistani fans. Even Bangladesh and Zimbabwe have tasted victory against India in world cups while a far stronger Pakistani team with greats like Wasim, Waqar, Imran, Javed, Inzamam, etc. has failed to beat India even once.

Misbah's legacy of losing games in 2007 and 2011 are not talked about just coz they were against India, they're talked about coz they were in the semi final and in the final of a world tournament.

It’s just funny that Indians needed Pakistan to remind them of their forgotten ‘hero’ who is living a life of oblivion and banishment.

We will try to make you happy this time by beating India. Ok?

Its all fun and games, and India should really be the last nation in the world to lecture on media matters and related morals and limits.

Saeed Ajmal single-handedly lost a WT20 semi-final to Australia, why is it that no one ever mentions it?

I accept your argument!
That large national companies should be more responsible than a bloke with a mobile phone, uploading a video to youtube.
But you have to agree, morally both are equally as bad?

Yes. Morally both are bad and disrespectful.

Saeed Ajmal single-handedly lost a WT20 semi-final to Australia, why is it that no one ever mentions it?

What r u on about??
A lot of people still mention that. But it was bad captaincy which led to that loss. Why would you have a spinner bowl your last over?? It's just dumb.

Even while being able to chuck (cheat) the ball he wasn't able to defend 18 runs.

Pathetic.

As an indian, Jazz channel have put out a far better promo than the current cringeworthy pathetic tasteless use of father's day promo that SS have done. indian media is by far very sensationalist, chest thumping rabid and hysterical - the fact that they have used father's day, a happy occasion -no matter what your nationality as it praises father hood for this match is tasteless and has ZERO sense of humour -and i speak on behalf of 1000's of rational cricket loving indians who venerate fathers day and hate to see the dignity of this day to be used in this pathetic one upmanship fashion. An apology to pak cricket lovers from this indian fan.....peace to all :)

Finally!!!

Thank you, bro

Lets just say without being too specific that i am the one who tells people what to do and liaison with the creative & media agency.

very cool, keep up the great work!

hope to see more fun stuff from you guys during the WC...

Nothing wrong with the advert at all. It is not remotely racist neither does it mock any religion. India should have known that there would be a reaction to their recent advert so they need ti lighten up here:hasan Let this be a lesson to the Indian media that the ones who laugh last do so the loudest. They need to know that India can also be offended and hurt as well. Jazz has hit India where it hurts most, well done!

In the ultra nationalist climate of India, Indians are obviously going to be offended by this. Modi's fed them some nonsense which makes them believe they are some sort of superior race with 56 inch chests. They are literally offended that an actor with darker skin tone was chosen to depict a South Indian. That shows how insecure they are about themselves that they still believe that beauty and being fair-skinned are co-related.

The whole baap-beta thing is far more offensive than this. This is mocking an event to hype up a nation about a cricket match with a touch of witty banter.

The baap-beta thing is outright insulting a whole nation and suggesting they are inferior. That's some Nazi level propaganda hidden behind jokes.

At Indian posters: if you're touchy about this it's probably you're masking your insecurities/short-comings behind ultra-nationalistic and machismo behaviour.

A funny ad and Yes, a lot better than the Star Sports ads. Keep’ em coming!

Just saw this ad! Not offensive. We should all lighten up a bit. Should not take offence at anything and everything.

However the actor should not have been artificially painted black..

So the same guys who were laughing on those stupid star sports ad and asking pakistanis to take it as a joke are crying themselves now. If you are going to throw mud at them don't expect flowers from them.

To me both ads are childish but Pakistani one was not made by a TV channel. You can find 100s of ads like these on youtube. :inti

you can think other way too.. To those who condemned StarSports ad now laughing at this..

Personally don't care about these ad.. these ads are created for appeasement for certain group/country which may not suit for other group/country

You are correct sir, in your assesment.
In simple terms the star sports and this jazz ad, are basically hate propaganda!

people with common sense should contempt these type of low standard gimmics whether it be Indian or Pakistani. There are morons on either side with no sense what so ever.

Star sports ads were more towards cricket but these are targeted at political level.

This is the difference between two.

In YouTube you will find lot of these kind of political driven ads from Indians.

I respectfully disagree!
Star sports ads were also subtly political whilst using the disguise of sport!

Was a time when matches were promoted by rivalries Shane warne Vs tendulkar, wasim Vs tendulkar, Lara Vs Murali etc.. now cricket is being promotion has become pretty bad. All the baap beta stuff, this ad about abhinandan etc are pretty poor promotions.

I do consider star sports add bad one, but if guys enjoying the abhinadan add then please do tell me how you are different from

You are absolutely right!
Rivalies are the correct way to advertise these games.
They could have had the following:-
bumra vs fakhar - time for redemption!
Kohli vs babar - the battle for the batting crown!
Rohit vs amir - time to see whose the cricketing boss!

But unfortunately, these india vs pak games are just a way of waging war against each other without using the military, though dhoni is a bit confused on this point!

Na, Mobilink is quite big in Pakistan. I am sure they made the ad for TV audience but can't confirm yet. Check the duration, it is 30 sec long. Social media ads are usually longer.

Everything "Jazz" is not necessarily from Mobilink. Its perhaps a launch of some tv streaming app by a random Pakistani, and the publicity he wanted he's already gotten more than that with Indian news channels and electronic media covering the ad.

Apart from face colouring (if it has been done), dont see anything wrong with the ad.

The difference is, this youtube ad by a random channel (who no one in Pakistan knew of, until Indian media picked it!) was done to promote their channel.

Whereas the crass baap-beta ads are telecasted by the biggest sports channel of India and official media partner of ICC!

On twitter Star Sports have even pinned their ad, so that it receives the maximum attention

Hahaha! Funny! I know we usually shouldn´t engage in such low stuff, and I agree with this, but it looked funny - even if it should´ve been avoided.

They still do that for bilaterals. You can't build India-Pakistan World Cup matches on the players anymore because Pakistan currently doesn't have players of the stature of Wasim or Waqar.

The episode happened, no problem in having a laugh about it but just might take it up a notch, as it becomes political now but dont think star sports will get that far

Baap beta was ok but they should have shown some pakistani perspective too, like better odi i records, humour should please both not one side

The Indian median should have shown the 200 run thumping we gave them in a major ICC final on a mutual venue. The jazz response has absolutely hurt Indian emotions make no mistake about that. The got what they deserved.

So Indians are not angry because of the content of the ad but because the actor was painted with dark color. Makes sense why it’s so offensive lol

india and Pakistan "tensions" are high again. But this time it's over cricket.

The two sides are set to meet each other on Sunday in what is arguably the most highly-anticipated clash so far of the World Cup.

Pakistan has upped the ante with a TV ad, satirising an Indian pilot who became a national hero after he was captured in February when tensions between the two countries were high.

He was later released as "a gesture of peace".

The incident, which occurred soon after more than 40 Indian paramilitaries were killed in a suicide bombing in Indian-administered Kashmir, brought the two countries to the brink of war and escalated emotions in India.

When the pilot, Abhinandan Varthaman, was released, he received a hero's welcome in India.

In the ad, an actor sports an India cricket jersey and a distinctive handlebar moustache like Mr Varthaman.

It goes on to recreate an "interrogation" video of Mr Varthaman that was released by Pakistan shortly after his capture.

In the original video, Mr Varthaman can be heard refusing to answer questions about his squadron and mission with the line: "I'm sorry, I'm not supposed to tell you that."

In the television ad, the "pilot" is still refusing to give information. But this time it's in response to questions about the upcoming cricket match, such as details about who's going to be in the Indian team, while sipping a cup of tea. It ends with the actor being "dismissed" and then told to leave the "cup" behind - an obvious play on the World Cup trophy.

But while the ad is clearly meant to be a tongue-in-cheek take on a recent India-Pakistan incident, it has struck a nerve in India, with many on social media calling it "insensitive" and "shameful".

But while many denounced the advert for its "mocking" tone, others have seen some humour in it.

A few users have also asked India to take the ad in its stride and retaliate by winning the match against Pakistan.

It's clear that passions are running high before the hotly-anticipated match which is due to take place on Sunday in Manchester's Old Trafford stadium. It is set to be attended by thousands of ardent Indian and Pakistani fans.

But seeing as a slew of recent World Cup matches have been cancelled due to rainy weather in the UK, it would be quite ironic if this game is also washed out - especially since it has had such a dramatic warm-up.

Good job, BBC to raek it up - but it was actually a funny ad

haha bro, Jazz TV is mobile tv app launched by mobilink years ago. Also Mobilink has not disassociated itself from this ad. I think they are waiting for censor board clearance before they can air it on tv & mobile. Danyal Gilani (chairman film censor board) however liked the ad & idea behind it.

india likes to mock other countries, when someone makes fun of them, they cry for foulplay

24 7 sports , very similar to how new channels went down the drain, how daily soaps with the crappiest story lines became powerful or even how Bollywood went from Pyaasa , Guide to Amar Akbar Anthony and now salman..

Creativity wise, this isn't up there.

However, from a freedom of expression perspective, this is awesome.

Mani said he was also against the teasers aired by ICC host broadcaster, Star Sports, to promote the India-Pakistan clash. “I think this is for the ICC to take note. Star is the host broadcaster. They are not an Indian broadcaster, they are the broadcaster of the ICC. They should be fair to all teams. That (the teasers) is not part of cricket,” Mani said.

He also condemned a World Cup-linked Pakistan TV channel spoof about IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, who was held captive in Pakistan for close to 60 hours after his aircraft was shot down in action along the LoC that followed the Balakot air strikes. “I haven’t seen that. But obviously it’s not in the spirit of the game if it is true,” he said.

All their ads of cricket matches between india vs pak are subtly political.
If you can't see that, then i can't help you!
Cricket matches between india and pak have always been political. There are used
as an extension of war between the two countries, to show who is the more dominant country.
Just like chess was used in the cold war between usa and russia to show who was the more intellectual and tactical country!

Really wish the match is washed out not because of any cricketing reason, I want this shameless broadcaster to lose money. The Star Sports ad is not humour its an insult and offensive. Washed out match will serve them right.

This baap beta thing really gotta end. Too much cringe from India. They lack class and sophistication.

Well said. Cricket just a game and should remain a game, no point in making any sport larger than life. Wins, losses nothing is end of the world as there will always be another day.

Sania trying to be mature but we can see she along with other Indians will not call out their own nation for the childish stupid remarks in their media, by their politicians, ex sportsmen etc . But now we have one add by a Pakistani company she thinks both parties are the same.

Sania please call back your husband and put on your blue shirt for Sunday, Pakistan can take of itself.

Pakistan has written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) seeking action against Star TV for its “biased” World Cup promotion campaign, indicating an interesting turn in India-Pakistan ad wars ahead of the big bang Sunday clash between the two.

Both India and Pakistan have been slammed for their over-the-top, jingoistic advertising as the clash between the two – easily one of the most awaited cup fixtures – at Old Trafford, Manchester looms.

Pakistan’s use of the capture of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack in one of its advertisements has come in for criticism. At the same time, Star TV’s ads, where a man dressed in Indian colours appears to call himself Pakistan’s “abbu” have been flagged off for being offensive on both sides of the border.

On Friday, Pakistan wrote to ICC asking it to censure Star TV -- the Indian cricket board’s broadcasting partner –for not being neutral in its advertising, making it look like only India is playing at the World Cup.

The letter signed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani accuses Star of being blatantly nationalistic and says that such a jingoistic campaign is not expected from the global broadcaster of the tournament.

While Star officials refused to comment on the PCB letter, Mani refused to discuss its details with Mumbai Mirror. “We do a lot of things internally and I would not like this matter to be discussed in the media or in the public domain. You should check with the ICC about what we have written and what not,” he said.

The tone of India vs Pakistan telly wars was set by Star’s ‘Mauka Mauka’ campaign ahead of the 2015 World Cup. It highlighted the repeated failure of Pakistan against India in World Cup ties. It shows a Pakistani family arming itself with firecrackers to celebrate before every India-Pakistan match and then dejectedly putting the sparklers away – defeat after defeat. India and Pakistan have played each other six times in World Cup games since 1992 and India has emerged victorious every time.

Though the Pakistanis got one back by thrashing India in the Champions Trophy final in 2017, the World Cup record stays in India’s favour. On Sunday, Pakistan gets another chance to change that. And clever ads and punchlines will not matter when the two teams enter the ground at Manchester.

Ehsan mani has more important things he should be concentrating on , than complaining about some stupid ads, if this in fact true.

What must the people in the icc be thinking with this constant childish behaviour of both the pcb and the bcci?!!!

Ehsan mani has more important things he should be concentrating on , than complaining about some stupid ads, if this in fact true.

He is in a position to voice his condemnation of any derogatory actions be it whosoever... It is a cricket match which has had enough attention already, there is no need to pump it with such ads...

How long can they leave this go on.. There needs to be a stern reactions from both sides to stop such nonsense as this broadcaster will go unstopped or unchecked..

Get a grip man!
They are making fun of pak team and fans, its a tv channel and as long as they are not breaking their broadcasting rules, then they are free to air what they want.
Stop being over sensitive.
Our side did a ad about their pilot, though i don't agree with it, its better to respond like this, than go running to the icc!

ICC action against SS

Even though both the adverts were in bad taste, do you think ICC will censure SS and that too based on a complaint from PCB. ICC will ready to kick out PCB rather than loose US$1.98 billion that SS is paying for ICC events.
Modern day sports the broadcasters have so much influence, why do you think this world cup the number of teams are less compared to previous one's.

Wasted 3 minutes of my life watching this crap. :/ Not funny, no creativity and dialogues were very poor. But I think it's a YouTube channel ad so one can understand why creativity isn't the best.

Bad publicity is as great as good publicity. The hits on this YouTube videos have risen tremendously today
