[VIDEO] Abid Ali - First impressions in international cricket

Should have played in 2nd ODI v Sri Lanka but seems another chance missed.

Abid Ali creating problems for Nephew, Fakhar and Shehzad . Looks like a strong contender for opening slot in all formats.

He's 30+, where were they hiding him before?

Very much the senior partner in this partnership - liking his maturity.

Why do we get these sick players when they about to start looking for retirement homes to live in

How is it that he was not noticed in domestic cricket?.Did he start playing well recently or was he a good player when he was young and didn't get a chance due to nepotism.

He scored a century vs Aus.

The inzi and Mickey the revolutionaries decided to drop him.

Glad Misbah is here.

I know but a player like him should be established for a few years now not just having debuted within the last year or so.

You need to have good connections to be able to play at the top domestic level and be noticed by the national selectors. If you don't then the time comes very late.

Hes not young, but hes not exactly a grandpa. If he can maintain fitness he can easily serve us well for 5-6 years, which is a long time in international cricket.

He is the same age as Kohli.

Doesn't look that fit to me but that's an issue that plagues most Pak players. Might be the same age as Kohli but Kohli's been around for nearly 10 years.

Sindh’s opener Abid Ali was warned for a level 1 offence relation to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during a match. He had protested at being given lbw in the second innings (during Round 4 QEA game)

Abid Ali showed his potential when he scored that brilliant century against a strong Aussie side. He plays proper cricket shots and is great to watch.

Part of the Pakistan Test squad for Australia - one hopes he gets chances to play but a huge test for him this

Abid Ali: Stop-gap Opener & Keeper in LOI & T20

http://www.espncricinfo.com/pakistan/content/player/39950.html

Abid Ali has shown good technique and temperament and he is a decent enough keeper. Why not have him open with Babar in T20 and in LOI with (Fakhar/Imam) and have him keep wickets.

I have seen his keeping and he is equally as good as Rizwan if not better.

Playing Abid Ali frees up a spot for another player and gives us good balance in LOI & T20.

Thoughts?

Replacing a specialist keeper with someone who has a SR of 104 in T20 cricket doesnt look like a smart move to me.

Abid should be the mainstay in Tests and ODIs.

Right now, no need to pick him in T20s. Find specialist T20 bats in the top order who can hit pace from the get-go.

Fans can bang their head all they want but PCB will do what they want to do. The perchi/favoritism culture will remain their forever get used to it.

Rizwan cannot. He is not a top order smasher who can hit pace and struggles down the order. His keeping is average at best.

Abid Ali is not a bad call even in T20

He should be keeping in ODI and playing at the top for sure

Hundred percent i agree with this move...he is an opener in limited overs and if we give him free licence he cant do worse than Fakhar and also will keep which will free up Rizwan Space

So we should go with someone of SR of 102 and who isnt even a specialist keeper? How is that an improvement?

Rizwan isn't a spectacular keeper although he may be labelled as a specialist keeper. He cannot hit against pace and he is not a finisher.

Abid is no better or worse as a keeper and I believe he is an upgrade in batting over Rizwan.

At this time, Rizwan does not bring X factor to Pakistan T20 side and nothing which cannot be matched by Abid Ali

By the LikesAbid ALi look better bat than Imam for t20s but yes we have to wait. Let him perform im odi then he will definitely come

  1. Abid Ali/Babar Azam
  2. Iftikhar
  3. Haris (although I am not fully sold)
  4. Khushdil

This is good enough and this batting lineup with fire most of the team and take pressure off Babar Azam

Should he play in the final Test?
Azhar inherited a Test Eleven in which 8 players were in their twenties.

He went into this Test with 2 players (plus Iftikhar, supposedly) in their twenties.

The team is already grossly distorted in age.

If you want to pick a 32 year old opener, you need to drop the skipper (fine by me, he’s finished) or Shafiq.

I've never seen someone so overrated.
I'm sure he's going to fail if he plays against aus

Azhar Ali on Abid Ali:

"Abid Ali is one of our top FC performers and he is in our plans, whenever we get a chance we will play him and he will hopefully play for a long time for Pakistan. We trust him as a very good opening batsman"

Why is Abid Ali being labeled a 50 over and test player?

Hi guys I'm new to this but a longtime cricket and pakpassion follower and enthusiast. I recently saw the psl draft and was shocked to see that no team selected abid ali. I mean his record statistically might not be the greatest but he's in the form of a lifetime and should've been picked ahead of a lot of others. Similarly despite his aggressive batting approach in the few odis and test chances he's been given, our coach misbah categorized him as a test and odis specialist which is a shame because I believe we can take a chapter out of some smart people's books and pick people in red hot form. My personal opinion is that he can be more useful in the t20 worldcup than the ttf asif ali or even the out of form haris sohail!! Waiting for your thoughts!!

You guys should be happy that he only plays proper cricket. For him to maximize his talent he has to not play in all of the t20 leagues and be constantly be playing pyjama cricket

Rightfully promoted in this year's central contracts - good recognition by PCB
