Ali Shafiq first impressions in his debut season in the PSL

Good height. Deserved the wicket of Delport by displaying good discipline. Speed not so impressive. Smart bowler none the less and likes to mix it up.

Good looking Medium Fast Pacer.

Taller but slower than M Ilyas.

Not an exciting talent for LOI. With these speeds he can only excel in Test Cricket provided he gets prodigious seam movement like he gets on Pak underprepared FC wickets.

ahmedwaqas92 Speed isn't like what was claimed.

Not a exciting talent. No pace. No wow factor. Such is the case with any other bowler done has come through the ranks in PSL.

Decent bowler, good control in terms of line and length. Good for PSL, not good enough for International level.

He seems like a special talent. A bowler with a brain.

Bamboozled Shadab. Generates some serious seam movement and could be a future Test player for Pak.

Saw him bowl just one over, but super impressive with his control and discipline. Doesn't look very flashy or with some extra ordinary pace but can be McGrath type bowler if he can bowl like this consistently.

Impressive stuff, pace will increase as he is still 22. Hassan icreased his pace from early 130’s when he was 22 to touching 145kph in recent times. If he can hit decent lengths with seam movement he wont be needing much pace anyways.

Ali Shafiq's favourite bowler is Jasprit Bumrah. Is inspired by how he plays all three formats and performs well in all three.

Never thought I’d see the day in cricket where a bowler would win man of match for getting a 2-fer... how times change.

He was steady rather than spectacular.

Pacewise nothing special but he bowled a tidy line and length.

you people are way too obsessed with pace, the last pace bowler you had was wahab riaz and look how he turned out.

how can you even come to the conclusion he isn't good enough for international when he's only played 1 PSL match so far AND was MOM?

seriously dude?

I’m not obsessed with pace at all. In fact I’ve always admired artistic bowlers.

I’ve come to the conclusion on the basis of my judgemental skills and observation.

This case is no different to Ehsan Adil. He will show glimpse of his quality at International level but will fail to establish himself in ODI or Test in the long run.

You mention he’s won the MOTM but there have been players on debut for Pak who won. MOTM or scored 50+ yet failed to deliver consistently ie Maqsood. Awards does not prove anything.

Pakistan won’t produce a world class player or player capable of performing on a consistent basis until our domestic cricket is improved.

One of many in domestic FC circuit, nothing special. Lack of pace makes him nothing special.

fair enough

he's played one match mate, you can't come to this conclusion so early in his career... how did you feel about mohammad asif when he came onto the scene?

not saying he'll be like asif, it can go either way and the only way to determine that is by having him play more and more.

You mention he’s won the MOTM but there have been players on debut for Pak who won. MOTM or scored 50+ yet failed to deliver consistently ie Maqsood. Awards does not prove anything.

it all depends on how hard he works and whether he's willing to put in the effort.. MOTM is a good start now whether he can continue and improve is what will separate him from the others.

Pakistan won’t produce a world class player or player capable of performing on a consistent basis until our domestic cricket is improved.

agreed

Looking at his numbers and he's clearly excelled in FC than in LOI. That's probably where his future lies if he were to play in International matches.

I am obsessed with pace and not at all apologetic. It is the weapon Pakistan had for a long time and it was beautiful and scary. It will always be beautiful and scary.

If someone like Wahab doesn't use pace wisely, it is not an indictment on pace.

sure but that weapon has gone missing most of the time

waqar was lethal in his early days... akhtar was lethal but injured 40% of the time, sami was sami, zahid was injured and never got going, wahab went faster to the boundary.

Yup a bit disappointing, given the latter information came directly from himself.

Nothing exciting about him, no pace no swing, just a line and length bowler, not a wicket taker at all.

Injured.

No update yet from Multan Sultans.

What happened to this guy? He looked pretty good with regards to bowling a tight length and line. Seemed another one in the Asif and Abbas mould.

Any updates?

Not included by Inzi and the selectors in any Pak Cup squad, but the same old tried and tested faces are all there.

Playing for Multan today.

Not a great first over, bowling too much on leg-stump vs. the left-handers. Pace high-120s to 130.

Got very lucky that none hit his length balls and the batsmen couldn't benefit from the free hits. They had two free hits!

I remember the times when he get excited by young fast Bowlers only to see them bowling at 128k to 133ks, remember threads like Majid Ali light at the end of the tunnel etc? This kid is one of those Bowlers.

Mentally strong, passionate & well versed bowler but not quick enough.

Shaheen, Naseem, Hasnain, Dilbar, Haris & Akif are ahead of him when it comes to national level.

Ali needs to work on his Run-up and action where he is not upright while delivering the ball. If he can improve massively than surely he can compete with Sameen/Ehsan/Abbass for Test Cricket. Needs to bowl 140 kph ie fast medium.

Fingers crossed.
