Ah bollywood..forever copying Hollywood. Looks like an Indian version of 300 to me.
Not a big fan of Telugu movies to be honest most are commercial movie without logic. The trailer looks promising but they take the direction to an idiotic level similar to all recent Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan movies.
Telugu film industry and Tamil film industry are much smaller than Bollywood but they come up with exciting and fresh ideas. Bollywood sticks to same old rom-coms/slapstick comedy and masala action.
It is not telugu cinema's problem if bollywood only chooses remake masala movies !
Its not i'm just saying Telugu movies are really commercial oriented more than any other film Industry in India.
Waiting for this movie from 2 years now..
200 Plus crores.... with dozens of Desi and videsi VFX companies...thousands of artists working together and Rajamouli !
The making videos are just fabulous.....
Going to the premiere show this thursday !

Heard the benefit shows in Hyderabad are priced at around 4000-8000 bucks

Yes, that is true ! But I believe the masala movies..the good ones have some kind of heart to it ...but when transalated to hindi...most hindi film makers do a **** job at it.
For example ...Okkadu (2001) which was made into Tevar ....
Even though the west outsources a lot of its special effects workload to India for its movies with exceptional results, but whenever the Indian do it for themselves it usually turns out crap.

This movie better be a hit. Lots of money invested in it. Biggest budget ever.
What works for Telugu probably might not work for Hindi and i think unless it really has Pan India appeal film makers should leave the movie alone.Bhool Bhulaiya ,Ready,Ghajini,Singham 1 in my opinion the movies that were good down south and north as well in spite of them being commercial ones.
so what is this movie about? Is this based on some south indian legend/myth or is it based on a true story?
Originally many thought the movie is a true story about a South Indian King, who later turned Buddhist (similar to Gautama Buddha) --> Baahubali
Looking at the promos, it is apparent that this is a revenge story of a promised prince who revolts against his uncle, who's responsible for his father's death
Hamlet ripoff
That acting)
)
It looks pretty I'll give it that
Just an intrigue, what acting did you find in any of the trailer that were laugh worthy? there was just one or two dialogues...
Hamlet ripoff
And it sounded ridiculously phoned in and not remotely real.
Look if you like it fair enough, everyone has their own tastes, and I'm no Michaelangelo of the film industry, but the least I ask for in a film is competent acting. A muscly guy putting on a gritty voice really badly doesnt qualify for me.
Like I said the special effects look pretty good and the cinematography look decent too, but without half decent acting its all worthless
Movie is Telugu language....Voices are dubbed in Hindi in trailer ! Hence the dialogues do not like they are coming from the actors's mouths as they ar enot ! nothing to do with acting ! If you see telugu trailer..it will look okay.
I am not expecting you to like it...or dislike it..I was off the opinion that there is nothing in the trailer to form an opinion about acting ! and btw...all the actors are pretty competent actors....with some good filmography !
http://variety.com/2015/film/asia/india-braces-for-baahubali-blockbuster-1201536536/All movie industry eyes in India this weekend will be turned not to Bollywood, but to Hyderabad and the release of Telugu-language epic action “Baahubali.” The film sets out on some 3,500 screens on Friday (July 10).
The picture is not only the biggest budget Indian film of all time, weighing in at some $40 million for two parts, it is also shaping up to be one of the biggest movie events the country has seen in years.
That’s because the Tollywood (Telugu-language) and Kollywood (Tamil-language) movie industries, though generally less well-known than Mumbai-based Bollywood (Hindi-language), lack nothing in showmanship or entrepreneurialism. They have their own star systems, distribution circuits, and often inspire Bollywood (Hindi-language) creations or remakes.
Produced by Shobu Yarlagadda of Hyderabad-based Arka Mediaworks, “Baahubali,” however, has been engineered to be a nationwide sensation on its own terms – without need for a Bollywood retread.
Each corralling massive social media followings, Prabhas (Varma) is the film’s lead star, while SS Rajamouli is its director. Other top cast include Rana Daggubati and Anushka Shetty.
Arka has carefully managed numerous build-up events from the unveiling of the soundtrack to the trailer launch on June 1, which took place in a sports stadium. In February, Twitter India was keen to make it known that Rajamouli announced the film’s release date on its platform first.
Rajamouli says the film’s story is a simple one — “a father who has been back-stabbed, a mother who has been enchained for no wrong of hers and the story of a son who takes revenge” – set in a fictional era, with the two parts spanning two generations.
While the weaponry and folklore are distinctly Indian, the presentation is high tech and modelled on the stylized look of “300.” International VFX firms including John Hughes’ Tau Films and South Korea’s Macrograph providing effects sequences.
Production itself took 450 days, with some location work in Bulgaria, but the majority taking place in Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City, a vast 2,000 acre studios and services complex that is one of the two largest film production platforms in the world and has dozens of different sets and backlots. One battle scene took 40 days to lens.
Arka is overseeing the release in South India and has widely pre-sold the film in other regions of India, giving it a rare all-India wide release. The film scored another coup as Bollywood icon and TV presenter Karan Johar is handling the Hindi release through his Dharma Productions in partnership with Anil Thadani.
“Baahubali – The Beginning” releases this week, with the second part targeting an early 2016 outing. International territories where Indian films don’t normally play will receive a shortened, single version, rather than the combined 290 minutes running time of the Indian two-parter.
The ancillary strategy includes a spinoff TV series, graphic novels and a clothing line. Arka is also in discussions with tech giant AMD to create a “Baahubali”-themed Oculus Rift experience.
10 more hours for me to catch the movie..

Because the big movies here...most of them are more media hype than they actually are...
Film maker and actor end up eating half of the budget as remuneration...this did not happen for this movie !
Its the budget, the effects have although improved a lot compared to decade a ago but Indian cinema cannot afford 100 million $$.Max it goes is 25-40 Million.

I'm a bit vague in the whole South Indian scene with Malayalam, Teleugu, Madrasi etc and can't differentiate between them to savey life but even in Dubai us Arabs know of super duper stars Mohan Lal and Mammoooty. Forget the Shahrukhs and Amirs, these guys can can act.

^^^ Prabhas and Anushka shetty are the big stars...whom I do not think you know!
Other leads..Tamanna and Rana...you probably know from their hindi movies here and there !

This film is made for Indian audiences.
It's a commercial Indian film. You don't go to watch 300 or any Arnold or Sylvester Stallone movie to expect good acting. For good acting watch some Meryl Streep film.
You are obviously not an Indian film fan. I doubt you have ever watched any.. No need to pas derogatory.
Indian companies like 'prime focus' are involved in special effects for all major Hollywood movies including spider man, 300, Harry Potter etc...
I believe the producers are probably on the safe side now...Distrubers brought the movie for record amounts in andhra and telangana....
Karan Johar brought it in Hindi..Gnanavela raja in Tamil....
And it sounded ridiculously phoned in and not remotely real.

PK life time was 6 million in USA if i'm not wrong.
As a non Tamil viewer i must say the movie was nice. Although the acting was very bad and same old story. I loved the graphics and the war part. Looking forward for the part 2. I would rate it as 7/10
http://www.forbes.com/sites/robcain...li-destroys-box-office-records-is-china-next/Writer-Director S.S. Rajamouli’s epic fantasy Baahubali: The Beginning, the most expensive production in the history of Indian cinema, has been crushing box office records from the day of its release.
The $40 million period film beat previous record holder Happy New Year to score the biggest domestic opening day and opening weekend ever for a film in India, and the fourth biggest worldwide opening ever for an Indian movie.
The visual effects heavy story centers on two rival brothers who battle for supremacy over a rich medieval kingdom.
The 41 year-old Rajamouli, who works mainly in the South Indian Telegu region, has cemented his reputation as a creator of highly regarded blockbuster films. His previous two productions, Eega (2012) and Magadheera (2009) were hits with audiences and critics alike, taking in $20 million and $12 million respectively, and winning several prestigious awards.
The picture also set records in North America, earning $3.6 million in a 236 screen limited release, for an exceptional $15,254 per-screen average.
Baahubali was produced simultaneously in the Telugu and Tamil languages, and released in those languages as well as in dubbed Hindi and Malayalam versions. The film is unusual in that it was is the only non-Hindi language film among the country’s top 10 biggest international openers.
No release date has been set yet for China, but with its blockbuster reception in international markets, and the recent success there of the Aamir Khan-starring Hindi comedy PK, chances are good that Baahubali will find its way into PRC theaters this year.

'Baahubali': 5 Things to Know About India's Record-Breaking Blockbuster
The country's most expensive film ever recorded the highest opening-weekend performance for an Indian film at the U.S. box office.
Indian epic Baahubali (The One With Strong Arms) has set box-office records both at home and abroad.
Touted as India's most expensive film ever with an estimated $40 million budget, the first part of a planned two-part epic has become the fastest Indian film to cross the 1 billion rupee ($16 million) mark, the local standard for a strong box-office performer. According to the producers, the film's opening weekend box-office revenue reached almost $25 million (1.63 billion rupees), considered the highest for any Indian film ever. The film opened across 4,650 screens worldwide.
Baahubali also recorded the highest opening weekend ever for an Indian film at the U.S. box office, collecting $3 million, according to Rentrak, landing in the 11th spot. According to the producers, Baahubali also picked up another $1.4 million from Thursday preview shows.
Hailed as India's “biggest” film in its posters, here are five things to know about Baahubali, which The Hollywood Reporter review described as "epic entertainment for those with a taste for swords, sandals and saris."
1. The Movie Puts the Spotlight on South India's Film Industry
While most attention from people abroad typically goes to Bollywood, or the Hindi film industry based in Mumbai, the South Indian film industry based in Chennai and Hyderabad is quite dynamic and has its fair share of stars. Baahubali's success has put the spotlight on talent from this region as the film was shot at Hyderabad's Ramoji Studios.
A well-known name in the Telegu language industry, Baahubali director S S Rajamouli has previously delivered award-winning blockbusters in the form of 2009's Magadheera and 2012's Eega. Baahubali's success has also put the spotlight on the film's cast featuring actors Rana Daggubati and Prabhas and actresses Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah.
Elizabeth director Shekhar Kapur, who started out directing acclaimed Bollywood titles such as 1987's Mr India, praised Baahubali in a tweet. “Film makers from South India are showing far more courage than the North," he said. "Where are the courageous film makers like @ssrajamouli in Mumbai? ”
2. It Showcases VFX Prowess
South Indian films are also known to push the envelope in terms of visual effects, and Baahubali is seen as a game changer, raising the bar for Indian films.
Baahubali's lead VFX supervisor V. Srinivas Mohan is a three-time national award winner with credits including Tamil director Shankar's hits I and Enthiran (Robot).
The production was farmed out between 17 VFX companies and other individual artists. Hyderabad-based Makuta VFX and Firefly Visual Effects handled the film's key sequences. Overseas VFX companies included L.A.-based Tau Films (formerly Rhythm and Hues), China's Dancing Digital and Part 3 and South Korea's Macro Graph, which worked on a majority of the movie's war sequences.
Some local reports claimed that the production also involved VFX technicians who worked on Jurassic World. But Baahubali producer Shobu Yarlagadda tells The Hollywood Reporter that “these are just some Internet rumors.”
3. There Has Been Debate About When and Where the Story Is Set
Given that the film is an epic – and India has enough historical references such as The Mahabharata - one of the obvious questions raised by some critics is in which time period the story is set, which revolves around warring brothers battling for control of an ancient kingdom.
Yarlagadda tells THR: “It is set in a completely fictitious kingdom and era. But for reference, we looked at the period before the invention of gunpowder or fire power. ”
A bit of googling indicates that the invention of gunpowder is usually attributed to China and that it was probably invented during the Tang Dynasty in the ninth century.
4. Baahubali Invents a New Language
In what is another first for an Indian film, a special language was invented for Baahubali, perhaps a nod to the specially created Dothraki in Game of Thrones or the Elvish language from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Baahubali's Kiliki was invented by the film's writer-lyricist Madhan Karky and is said to be made up of about 750 words with its own set of 40 grammar rules.
The language was invented for the film's terrifying warrior tribe, the Kalakeya.
5. Baahubali Is Expected to Get a Film Museum
Baahubali is scheduled to have a film museum showcasing the film's sets, weapons, artillery, costumes and props. That would be a first for India.
“We are in discussion with Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, where most of the film was shot, to create a museum and also convert one of the major sets that was erected there into a tourism attraction,” Yarlagadda tells THR.
He adds: "This could be ready before or just after the release of Baahubali's sequel [scheduled for 2016]."
It is a Telugu movie Wiicket !
And I thought Ramya Krishnan was excellent...
I watched it in Tamil. Even the movie did not felt dubbed. It was original.

I watched it. I though the waterfall was all CGI.
Watched a low quality web stream. Did not know it was a two parter and they would leave the movie hanging like that towards the end. Now the viewers have to wait nearly an year to get some answers.
Honestly, I felt underwhelmed. Did not feel like it matched the hype.
