PCB's overreaction

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed its disappointment regarding comments made by former PCB Chairman Mr Khalid Mahmood about the national cricket team in a recent interview with the Express News television

These remarks come at a crucial time when the national side prepares to face T20 world champions England, leading into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

“At a time when the entire nation is rallying behind the national men’s team, Mr Khalid Mahmood, who served as PCB Chairman 25 years ago, has made irresponsible comments aimed at seeking attention. His remarks are disheartening, disrespectful and demotivating, clearly lacking in cricketing insight and knowledge.

“By outrightly predicting that the national side has no chances in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 without any cricketing basis, Mr Khalid Mahmood has overlooked the significant progress and preparation made by our players and coaching staff, as well as the potential for new talents to emerge and make a substantial impact.

“Such comments from a former PCB Chairman are discouraging for our players and disrespectful to those who have faith in their capabilities and are prepared to support them throughout this journey.

“As a former PCB Chairman, the PCB expected Mr Khalid Mahmood to be more supportive and encouraging towards the Pakistan men’s cricket team, rather than making comments that are factually incorrect, ill-informed and potentially aimed at creating a feeling of doom and gloom.”

He is absolutely right about this. We shouldn't delude ourselves into thinking we're one of the top teams with a real chance. It's about time these players faced reality and took steps to improve their poor performance. They still have about a month to turn this rubbish team into a winning one

It was a typical answer, like an overzealous Pakistan cricket fan.

He is 100% right. Before creation comes destruction.

Pakistan needs to be destroyed for it to be created into a top tier side again.

My suggestions for improvements are

- Take psl and home series back to UAE. Boys need to learn to play in tough conditions, these pindi pitches are not helping.
- No more saya, Listen to hafeez, Players like zafar gohar etc are existing in domestic without doing anything.
- Please get rid of wahab riaz, all he does is create conflict of interest.
- rizwan and babar can play but they must be stripped of all power and any decisions.
- No more social media for our players, if they want to use social media, do it in their own time, no more high five culture.
- Actually use that 55M provided by ICC to good use, spend it on proper pitches, proper security so sides feel the need to come with full strength.
- PCB needs to lighten its rules on league cricket. No more Muhammad haris drama.

And finally albeit this is unlikely and won't ever happen

- Suck up your pride and form friendly relationships with India, this will lead to IPL and multiple other chances for Pakistan as bcci will lighten up and might give more funding and more help.

^^ although this last one will never happen.

Until then Pakistan is not reaching semi's, as things stand, we aren't even reaching Group 8

I don't think there's any need to take his statement as an offense... it's just his opinion about the Pakistan team which he shared but PCB's raection on this issue doesn't make sense at all.

slow news day....

like it clearly says Ex, so does it matter?

We created decent home pitches under Mani and Wasim. The series against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and South Africa between 2019-2021 offered a good balance between bat and ball.

It fell apart under Ramiz with his micromanaging while Babar was/is terrified of any wickets with a blade of grass.

UAE was a good partner in the 2010-18 era but we can't go back now having spent so much money (and lives) trying to make Pakistan a safe international destination again.

Then get rid of Bobby and rizwan and saya for good.

He didn't say anything wrong. He's actually spot on.

Pakistan cricket is in a very disappointing position right now. No matter how many foreign coaching you employ, the really improvements will be seen once you make changes in the cricket board.

Even if he's right these kinds of comments will never leave a good taste.

An Ex Chairman would see the team lose every game for the rest of time if it meant their reign would be seen as successful.

Someone should speak to Khalid Mahmood now - will probably use stronger language!

I don't think this team will win even against Canada. Winning 1-2 match/s will be a great achievement. Forget about Super 8 or Semi
