In other words, domestic audiences don't care enough about Test cricket to make it financially sustainably on its own
You can use the same argument about cricket boards benefiting from money when players go and play franchise leagues at the expense of international prestige.

The list goes on and on....

Don't think Gary and Gille have any idea of privilege bestowed upon them by allowing them to be the coach of this world conquering team. PCB should have charged them both for allowing them to come so close to this sea of talent. :inti

Gillespie got Shan Masood , this will turn out to be very good... Im expecting Pak to improve and do really well

Kirsten has got Babar who has 4 years captaincy experience but still look like a rookie , will see what Kirsten could do with it,,,

I still can't believe how PCB was able to pull the rabbit out of the hat by hiring these two qualified foreign coaches. Jason Gillespie's appointment is particularly intriguing. This is the best hire after Bob Woolmer (RIP).

Also, it's a superb chance to cultivate Azhar Mehmood's talents with the input of both coaches. As I said before, I truly believe that Azhar Mehmood holds the key to our future success and could become the ultimate game-changer for us in the long term.

Just tuned in - MY first post in a while as IPL aint my passion even though am indian.

Terrific choices by BCCP - wonderful that they managed to pull it off

As an indian all i can say is why have different coaches for red and white ball?

Why not Gary as overall coach and gillespie as bowling coach? Gillespie has done terrific work with the Eng county sides and also with the young aussie quicks like xavier bartlett, boland, mitch perry etc, hell yeah-i'd take jason gillesipie or craigh McD over paras mhambrey for my side india any day.

this is the difference between india an pak. You have a pace bowling mindset - our guys are still obsessed with SRT and VK's useless batting records and still do not realize you need pace bowling at its peak to win matches overseas.

We had a diamond crazy genius coach in Bharat Arun and the freakin BCCi in all their cement headed wisdom let him off along with that other genius Sridhar - the fielding coach, just when they were beginning to make an impact.

Pak which always had a good tradition of pace bowling has realized this and have hired guys like gillespie to help their young guns like SS afridi, nassem shah etc which is a good step if you are a pak fan, but if you are an indian fan -

- we have regressed in pace bowling and no none cares.

As a true lover of pace bowling, i feel pak board have made the right changes. all i feel is the results may not be instantaneous but should be seen over a period of time.

Good game to the pak board for making the right choices!.

I think we are genuinely trying to make a tilt towards the WTC and WC with new coaches but as you mentioned some time will be required to bed in and understand the coaches requirements.

However we are a momentum based team and if things click we are capable of winning the 🏆.

Waiting for bitter ex players like Basit Ali Tanveer Ahmed to run these guys out of Pak… obsessed with salary’s !
Naqvi should bring down the curtains on such ex-players for such tv shoes and talks

Will Kirsten join the team for Ireland and England series. Will he take part in the selection committee meeting from here on ?

Both Kirsten and Gillespie must be given more authority than Babar and be fully backed.

Enough of the coaches being scapegoated wheras Babar and his gang keep escaping accountability.
100% agree. Theses renowned coaches should be well and above the player’s especially for Pak

Doubt there'll be much substantive change while the gormless dictator remains captain.

However ending the nonstop coaching drama we've had since 2019 is a step in right direction.
Misbah who personally wants to try his hand on coaching and selection where he failed on both miserably. Was the elephant in the room behind the coaching drama since 2019

This is best possible coaching setup that PCB could have atm. Gary? His performance as a coach is in front of everyone. Look where he took India and south Africa even though both of these teams were strong back then but coaching is something that can change the losing mindset to winning one if the players try. Jason has a vast experience as well. Azhar is there just to bridge the gap between the players and the coaches.

The people who criticise this setup might as well want coach like Misbah back. no?

Its time to start a thread on what our initial 15 man Squad will be to take to the WC.

Gary Kirsten's Pakistan Coaching Commencement Hinges On Gujarat Titans' IPL 2024 Destiny: Report

Gary Kirsten, Pakistan's new head coach in the white-ball formats, could join the national squad directly in Ireland if his IPL team Gujarat Titans does not qualify for the Play-offs stage of the popular T20 League.

A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official said Kirsten, while signing the contract, had made his commitment with the IPL franchise for this season very clear. Kirsten is associated with Gujarat Titans as batting coach and mentor.

The official added that in case Gujarat make the IPL playoffs, then Kirsten will join the team in England for the last two T20 internationals.

"If Gujarat don't qualify for the play-offs which will become clear by around May 16 or 17, or perhaps before that Kirsten will then join the Pakistan team directly in Ireland before series against England," the official said.

The IPL playoffs are from May 21 to 24 with the title clash scheduled for May 26.

Pakistan's four-match T20 series in England is scheduled to be held from May 22-30 before the teams reach USA for the World T20 Cup.

The PCB recently hired Kirsten on a two-year contract and there are high hopes that the South African will make the team more productive.

Having worked between 2008 and 2012 with the Indian team that won the 2011 World Cup, Kirsten only agreed to sign the contract with the PCB after he was assured there would be no interference in his work and the players he backed for continuity would be supported by the selectors.

"Kirsten made it clear to the PCB Chief, Mohsin Naqvi that he believes in first assessing a player and once he is convinced he is match-winning material for the team he likes to back him completely even if the player (s) go through a rough patch," the source said.

"Kirsten is also in touch with some people to bring them on the support staff for the national team," he said.

The PCB has also appointed Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie as the head coach of the Test team.

The source said Kirsten has already asked for all the data, profile studies and official reports on fitness and attitude of all the Pakistan players.

I was hoping Kirsten had the basic sense of taking Muhammad Harris.

Well, not to be.

Bro kirsten isn't gonna do anything, just giving you a heads up. He'll be another mickey Arthur dueing his 2nd stint.

Their rep won't be ruined if Pakistan fails, trust me considering the fact that no country takes us seriously, even Afghanistan no longer takes us seriously, they believe they have our no now.

"Made A Statement I Didn't Like": Pakistan Star Questions Coach Gary Kirsten's Intent

World Cup-winner Gary Kirsten was appointed as the white-ball head of the Pakistan men's cricket team on Sunday. The ex-South African player is set to stay in the role for the next two years, during which Pakistan will be playing two T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026 and one Champions Trophy when it comes to major ICC tournaments. Soon after taking the role role, Kirsten put forward his views regarding the future planning for the team and according to out-of-favour Pakistan player Ahmed Shehzad what the new coach said were "weak statements".

"If you can win one of those three ICC Events, that will be an amazing achievement on its own, whether it's the upcoming event or it's two years from now," Kirsten said on the PCB Podcast.

"My job is to make sure that the team operates at its best, it's as simple as that. And if the team is operating at its best, we will always have a good chance of winning a trophy."

Shehzad criticised Kirsten's intent after reacting to his statement.

"Gary Kirsten is a renowned coach but he will be fed information by those who will select the team. He does not have a base in Lahore nor has he grown up in Pakistan to understand the nature of different players," Shehzad told Geo News.

"At the end of the day, those involved with PCB are the ones who will be guiding him and doing all of this 2 years will have passed by. Already he has made a statement that I did not like. Kirsten said if we do not win the upcoming T20 World Cup then we might do well in the next two.

"So already he is keeping himself in a safe position. He must show confidence and these are weak statements. This is not how a winner talks."

“This is not how a winner talks” 😂 coming from Ahmed Shehzad of all people. Dude was too busy cutting Afridi’s hair in the swimming pool when the team needed him to perform.

Lets be honest. Kirsten is only coming in to collect the fat pay cheque (which we may or may not find out about after the WT20). There's a reason why he is still completing his IPL stint. He will be leaving after the WT20.

As an experienced professional coach. He knows without a long-term path and process you cannot achieve high results. He also knows PCB at current state is the last board you would go to accept a coaching job as a foreign coach.

Shaheen Shah Afridi speaking about head coach, Gary Kirsten, during the PCB PODCAST:

“One thing I really appreciated was something our coach, Gary Kirsten, said. He stated that you shouldn’t play for the name on the back of your shirt, but rather for the name on the front and on your chest.”

At least this will be end of yaari dosti group and babar won't have a say anymore
