Shouldn't the Afghan captain also understand Urdu/Hindi??? Granted Bengali is far more similar to Urdu-Hindi than Pashto but Afghan boys all grew up in Pakistan.

Good to see banter off the field. I think a lot of Asians understand Urdu/Hindi due to watching movies, Mashrafe Mortaza can speak it evidently from that video.

Angelo Mathews I have no idea if he speaks/understands it but some Sri Lankans will understand it because I remember my Sri Lankan friend at Uni (She's not an International student, i.e she has been raised in the UK) was watching revision videos for her course and it was Hindi but she said she could understand it as she has seen bollywood movies.

I think most Afghanistanis can speak/understand Hindi/Urdu too. I know Rashid Khan and some others can but not sure if Asghar Stanikzai can. There was an Afghani team at my work (cricket umpiring) and when they played against a Pakistani team or an Indian team they would speak to them in Hindi/Urdu.

So the awkward looks may just have been as they weren't involved in the convo as opposed to not understanding the language.

PS: By Asians I mean the subcontinent, obviously I wouldn't expect Japanese/Chinese etc to understand or speak it.
