[VIDEO] How soon will Mickey Arthur get sacked as Sri Lanka's coach?

Doesn't look likely he'll be in the job after the World T20. His tenure over the past two years has been atrocious.

He needs to be in Big Boss given his love for the camera, the attention and frequent antics.

He has his limitations , but his ideas and moves in white ball cricket is pretty decent.

He has a ego problem , if he controls that , he can be a very decent coach

Big test for Mickey this T20 World Cup - his team in the semis would be a great achievement.

More trouble for Mickey as Sri Lanka on way out...

Why would he continue to barge in with pace bowlers when his spinners were doing such a good job? Why has Hasaranga been batting at no.7 despite scoring a 70 and looking like their best batter in the tournament? Blunders we came to expect to Mickey when he was coaching Pak.

I guess some more "We are a proud side that hates to lose" by Mickey and "I have no idea what went wrong with our batters" from Flower are going to be made now.

Derbyshire have appointed internationally renowned coach, Mickey Arthur, as the Club’s Head of Cricket.
Having held head coaching roles with Australia, South Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the latter of which he leaves to join Derbyshire, Arthur is recognised as one of the leading coaches within the game, and replaces Dave Houghton, who departed at the end of the 2021 season.

Arthur oversaw a successful period for South Africa as National Coach between 2005 and 2010, a spell highlighted by series wins over Australia, India and Pakistan. He later coached Australia, before guiding Pakistan to their first ICC Champions Trophy in 2017.

In domestic cricket, Arthur twice led Eastern Cape to T20 finals in South Africa, while he enjoyed a spell with Western Australia prior to securing the Australia national job and has coached a number of franchise teams across Asia, including Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League.

Renowned for his leadership qualities and winning mentality, he was appointed as Head Coach of Sri Lanka in February 2020, leading the side through the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in 2021 and guiding a young squad to five wins, including a memorable 20-run victory over West Indies.

Arthur will link up with the Derbyshire squad at The Incora County Ground after Sri Lanka’s two-Test series against West Indies which begins on Sunday.

Chairman, Ian Morgan OBE, said: “Mickey is one of the most highly-regarded coaches in world cricket and this is a key appointment for the Club ahead of an important winter period.

“Throughout this recruitment process, Mickey has understood our heritage as a county, but also matched our ambition with a desire to make a positive impact at Derbyshire.

“We want to move forward from last season. We’ve got a talented group of players and with a new Head of Cricket bringing a fresh approach, it is an exciting time for our Members and supporters.”

Arthur added: “This is the start of an exciting project at Derbyshire, with many young players, and I’m really excited to be a part of that and to bring my vision to the Club. It’s a new challenge and one which I’m eager to get stuck into and lead this Club to success.

“There’s a good squad at Derbyshire and I want us to play a positive style of cricket, we won’t fear any team and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve for our supporters.”

I feel Sri Lanka should get Hathurusingha.

Arthur's tactics were confusing during the World T20. Sri Lanka kept on playing 3 ordinary pacers despite them leaking runs continuously.

Should have been appointed by Bangladesh. He is good at building teams and guiding new players.

Imagine this is a good move for Arthur, as success in county cricket will propel him to the forefront of the England coaching job once Silverwood leaves. If he gets them promoted to Division One and/or wins a white ball trophy, he'll be considered an unqualified success at Derby.

Whether he will have the resources to achieve that at Derbyshire is another question. In theory, he should be suited to work out of the limelight given that it's not a huge club, which makes it easy for Arthur to focus on youth and bringing through local English players without the pressure of achieving immediate results.
