[VIDEO] "I have what it takes to make a comeback in international cricket": Zafar Gohar

Nobody is hyping him. He was always known as a smart gutsy number 8 who can be a very good bowling option when the team was playing with 5 bowlers.

I dont know man he is replacing Yasir Shah not Faheem so yes I do expect him to take wickets. And if he doesnt I expect him to be replaced. Otherwise Yasir is probably the better 4th bowling option. He took wickets in the first test at least.

Which is fine - NZ themselves have only taken 2 wickets with spin in the last 7 Tests at this ground.

It's lovely to have a spinner who is a proper batsman, rather like Shadab Khan. Yasir Shah has only reached 50 once in 64 Test innings, which is just nowhere near good enough for a spinner to be selectable outside Asia.

I'd actually have gone for Mohammad Nawaz as my part-time spinner on this ground. A full-time spinner usually serves no purpose at Christchurch.

Raza hasan would have been the best option and I would always go for wasim over nawaz
Zafar needs to hold up an end for naseem and Faheem to attack

Worst selection to make him debut in NZ . Misbah such a crap coach and selector

I don’t get the fuss about him. Performance don’t support the hype

Zafar gohar Bowling average 36.76
Nauman Ali 25.39
Sajid Khan 24.96
Bilal Asif. 23.16

Averaged 36.76 last season so what makes his fans think that he will do better at international level. Nauman Ali, Sajid Khan and Bilal Asif all have got much better stats than him in the last season

It's funny how the thread title mentions 'comeback'. The lad is a nobody in world cricket, and he's already making a comeback at 25? What sort of a game is being played in Pakistan?

Absolutely non-threatening bowling. Yes, not the right conditions for spin but unfortunately despite that there hasn't been any positive signs in his bowling yet.

Exactly, if you debut a young pacer that makes sense. Debuting a young spinner in Christchurch is as cruel as it gets and people calling zafar the nobody in cricket. You can see NZL dropped Santner and playing Daryl Mitchell in his place.

Misbah sent Hasnain , Haris rauf, Wahab riaz, Musa and Amad butt to Shaheens

The only bowler left with is Sohail Khan

Who selects all these bowlers ?

Wahab riaz , Sohail Khan, Imran Khan all these oldies selected since he got in, played Imran Khan on back of a practice game performance in Aus and suddenly reverted back his decision.

Why Sohail Khan keeps getting selected in all tours and not play a single game.

Can’t wait for Misbah to be sacked , he is a shame?

Misbah is a crap on the whole.

Bowled poorly, but he will bounce back in his next match. Very talented player who showed his ability with the bat in the first innings. Pakistan need to persist with him.

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Moin Khan has high expectations from leg-spinner Yasir Shah to do well in the home series against South Africa. “If conditions favour spinners in Karachi, Yasir Shah will be effective and a leg-spinner in rhythm can be unplayable at times.

I also feel that the decision to play Zafar Gohar in the presence of Yasir, against New Zealand, was the wrong decision as the former isn’t suited for Test cricket.

Zafar’s performance in domestic cricket can’t be termed very impressive as well,”

Moin said it was good that Skipper Babar Azam has been given the authority to finalise the playing XI, something which has been reported in local media. “He is the top performer in the side and he will have the confidence to tackle the players.

I don’t know if he was intentionally dominated, in selection matters, previously but it is good to know that this trend has changed. I’m sure when Babar has full authority, the team will do well,” he said.

He also praised the selection committee for giving preference to players doing well in domestic cricket for the upcoming Test series against South Africa.

“Domestic performers have been included in the Pakistan squad which will enhance performance of the side as decisions are made on merit.

Pakistan will have to put in the hard yards as South Africa team is in good form as compared to them but Pakistan will have the advantage of home conditions.”

The former wicketkeeper-batsman also opened up about the future of head coach Misbah ul Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis.

“They (Misbah and Waqar) will be under pressure to deliver in the series and if they do that, it’s well and good. But if they don’t, then naturally there is time for change. Everyone should be held accountable and I’m sure the cricket committee will review their performance.

We have always lacked consistency in the coaching department.

There have been numerous changes but we have never seen a proper plan and direction.” He also urged former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed to fight for his place in the national side. “Sarfaraz will have to fight for his place because Rizwan is in really good form.

The upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season, where he will play under my coaching for Quetta Gladiators, will also be a good chance for him to impress the selectors once again,” he said.

Bombed out completely. No place in the squad for Africa tours.

"In case of Zafar Gohar, for the home series we needed a spinner who could be an all-rounder but looking at the conditions in SA, we decided to reduce one spinner go with Arshad Iqbal as the role of fast-bowlers would be more important there" : Mohammad Wasim

Hope he returns to the squad for the next home series then, otherwise Wasim is just offering excuses

65 runs in 4 overs! Taken to the cleaners Gohar but then most bowlers have been in this game

Sadly he won't be getting another chance for a while now. Must be very demoralizing. What is wrong with Shadab's fitness, I don't think he has played games consistently for the last year or so.

Gohar out at 5 (10)

Day 3: 1st Session - Gloucestershire lead by 2 runs in answer to Glamorgans 309

Good work today for Gohar playing for Central Punjab - taking four wickets for 93 in game vs SP in QeA21

Gloucestershire have re-signed Pakistan spinner Zafar Gohar for the entirety of the upcoming 2022 cricket season.

The 26-year-old made a tremendous impact with the ball for The Shire in the final few matches of 2021, and the Club is delighted to welcome Zafar back to Bristol for a second spell.
Zafar re-joins the Club as a retained player for the first few months of the season and will turn full-time for August and September, meaning he will be available for selection from the first match of the season on a pay-by-appearance basis until the end of July.

The exciting bowler had Glos supporters off their seats and quickly became a fan favourite with his explosive performances in the final four matches of the LV= County Championship Division Two season. After making his debut against Northants in August, Zafar went on to take 3/77 against Essex and then 6/43 against Glamorgan, both away from home.

But his best performance came during the last match of the season when Zafar stunned Durham to take 11 wickets, 5/50 and 6/51, to help Glos on their way to a dominant seven-wicket victory.

Speaking of his excitement of re-signing for Gloucestershire, Zafar said: “Playing County Cricket this year and making my debut for Gloucestershire was the realisation of an ambition I've had for some time. Getting the opportunity to pull on a Gloucestershire shirt and contribute to a winning team was a great start to my career in England, and I'm very pleased to be returning for a longer stint next year.

“We have a team capable of challenging anyone, and some great momentum from 2021 to build on. I can't wait to get back and hopefully pick up where I left off."

This would be a good move for him. Hopefully he continues to develop and get better.

No, not at the moment.
He's got a beautiful shape and gets good flight. Not dissimilar to Ajaz Patel. Looks far more varied than Imad. It's Division 2 he plays in but that doesn't count for too much just the size of club.

Central Punjab had a second innings lead of 188 against Northern at stumps on day three of the four-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23 match, thanks to Zafar Gohar’s splendid bowling performance.

The left-arm orthodox recorded his first-class career’s 16th five-wicket haul, returning incredible figures of six for 96 in 31.2 overs as Northern were bowled out for 333, in reply of Central Punjab’s 385, after beginning the day on 194 for three at the LCCA Ground.

Zafar snared five wickets on Thursday, including Umar Waheed’s who fell four runs short of a century. Umar converted his overnight 42 into 96. He batted for 186 balls, in which he hit 15 fours.

17th five-wicket haul for Zafar Gohar as he registers 5-94 against Balochistan in QeA22

He needs to be in the squad, not just for his QEA performances, but also because of the incredible season he’s had w/ Gloucestershire, in county cricket division 1.

I’m afraid that he’ll sit out for Nawaz, who’s more useful in white ball cricket.

Happy Birthday Zafar G!
