[VIDEO] "I was an automatic selection for the World Cup" : Imam-ul-Haq

As I suspected, his innings was slow compared to the pitch. It was a good knock but Pakistan was at least 20 runs short. At this pitch, his score should have been 151(120) ish at least.

He was slow. Hence was Pakistan.

We need him..
We don't have any roy or Bairstow waiting. You can criticise him but we don't have any better option than him.

Well on the other hand, if you take his 150 out, it's a sorry score from the rest of the fellas. Slow or not, he did do the job for them to let the bowlers bowl at something.

How is that arrogant? what's wrong in speaking about his average and accomplishments that led him to be the automatic selection in WC? Nothing wrong with his answer, in fact I feel happy that he's boasting about his average and he's entitled to too! I like this lad's confidence in interviews! He speaks better than Bobbies and Sarfarazs for sure!

Yup, agree

Starts with 3(13) on a 481 pitch.

...this isn't really great.

Retired hurt for now.

Brilliant knock of 2 from 11 balls, am sure Inzi was proud of the effort to try and see off the new ball ;)

This guy makes me sick - sealed paks world cup fate in the first 4 overs played 10 dot balls on a batting paradise patting full tosses back to the bowler started the rot.

Inzys put him in the squad & also a god given right to play in all matches undroppable from the team never mind squad!

Just played a maiden over, at the start of the innings!

:usman

:ua

Might just score another Tendulkar-esque hundred in a losing cause.

But who cares if Pakistan loses as long as average is maintained

44 (58) on a 400 pitch. :amir

Played only ONE scoring shot in 58 balls, that too his signature run down the pitch against the pacers.

Tried to play a 2nd shot, got out. :srini

He will be the most hated pakistani player of his time, utterly obnoxious yet plays like a wimp

His good qualties cannot mask how bad he is when it actually matters.

He is a good looking batsman but his inability to rotate the strike is a huge issue in this day and age. Sr of 75 is not acceptable at this World Cup.

I wouldn't have been as worried about his slow strike rate if he had some shots in the armory.

Guy can't play any boundary scoring shots.

That's the biggest issue with him. Just charges down the pitch against the pacers.

His inns at SR of 75 was pathetic, simply not acceptable in modern day game.

Pathetic player with no shots. Can’t hit, can’t rotate strike. On top of that, has Kohli’s attitude.

It was a scratchy innings - mishits, some poor shots, plays and misses and a couple of very good shots.

He didn't look at his best - Michael Vaughan suggested some technical issues with his batting on commentary.

His bat gets stuck as it comes down when the ball is bowled on his off stump

Not one of his best innings but this was needed from him. He's needed to take the shine off the ball so others can have it easier

Shine off the new ball? this isnt 1999, no teams take shine of new ball in ODIs in modern game.

Long time lurker on this place but the discussion around Imam has finally persuaded me to post.

Comparing Imam and Fakhar’s dismissals today and the level of criticism Imam has received such as being called a ****** and snail, shows the mentality of some Pakistan fans. It’s similar to those blinded by anything resembling a ‘Phaast’ bowler needing to be fast tracked into the team.

Imam gave us a solid start today. He’s averaging over 50 in one dayers with a strike rate of 80. That’s good enough for me.

From watching Pakistan cricket for a number of years, we have not been blessed with high quality batsmen recently so I’d love to know which new star opener we have waiting in the wings.

I like that Imam puts a price on his wicket. His technique is pretty solid, although there are some chinks there, he looks like the type of cricketer who will work hard to fix them. The consensus from most experts in the commentary box such as Nasser Hussain is that our batting order top 3 is fine. I’d prefer to focus on our middle order, which is the biggest weakness.

No bigger turn off than watching mediocrity being celebrated with great pride. No wonder our cricket is in total shambles.

Chachu's Dream was 20 off 16 at one point of time. Scored a whopping 24 off next 41, to finish 44 off 57. Legendary, to put it in one word.

Had any other half decent opener got a similar start, they would have gone onto score at least 70 off 57. However, the second coming of Lara, totally sucked the impetus out of batting and brought Saffers back in the game. Mad respect for him & his fans.

Should be auto dropped from the remaining games. Still riding on the 150 before the WC. Open with Hafeez and bring Asif at 6. Only fix needed in the playing 11.

Cant play short bowling, cant rotate strike, bats with a low strike rate. Am I missing something else?

He has been poor. A bit surprising considering he had a solid series in the bilaterals vs England.

He will come back. This is his first big tournament. I will have him over both Asif and Malik any day of the week.

You should be the last person criticising anyone considering you're a Malik supporter.

Asif is trash, Hafeez can't last a single ball opening.

Imam is doing fine but today dismissal was soft .he was not expecting short ball from ferguson that too on very first ball of his spell .

We are stuck with him .hopefully he can turn it around in last 2 matches

I knew he was not ready to play in this WC and instead should have got his chances in the first team after this tournament.

Yeah he will keep coming back with his garbage batting for another 20 years like Malik and Hafeez...

If he fails to perform for even 12 months, I am sure he will be dropped. However, it is foolish to compare him with Hafeez and Malik who used to average in the 20s at this stage in their career.

He is making it through the first 6 odd overs and then getting out...That ball today was a peach...would definitely stick with him for now.. Im positive he will come good.. specially in the next two matches where we wont be facing any quality fast bowlers with new ball(bar mustafizur).

If he is to be dropped based on recent performances, then Fakhar should go with him...

Sigh.. can't believe people are talking about dropping Imam. Though I know I've been repetitive on this forum but the Pakistani Top 3 should not be tampered in 99% of circumstances, including right now. They will see this tournament through. Hafeez cemented spot #4 after his knock against England - and he's shown that if the wicket is easy to bat on he can still score runs at that spot. Sarfaraz was holding down #5 and we were unsure of 6-7. Now with Harris grabbing the opportunity with both hands, our top 6 is cemented. The #7 for now is Imad Wasim and I like the balance he brings. With Shaheen having performed today and showing he can learn from mistakes - well - looks like it's all coming together boys isn't it? The XI that played today will most likely repeat itself in the remaining games of the tournament barring injury. I expect Fakhar or Imam to own the next two games - and they will expect nothing less from themselves either, especially Imam!

Despite my criticism of his handling of the short ball, he is still worth his place for the moment. He is reasonably well organised and has a solid technique. Plus he is quite gutsy I feel, and you need to be as an opener. Whether he's good enough long term is another matter, but he deserves a chance to show he can do it on the big stage.

Fakhar and Imam should be persisted with in the remaining WC matches unless there is any injury.

Imam is trying to take responsibility which is good but he gets too defensive.

Stage 1 : Plays well. Scores at reasonable SR and sees of new ball threat.

Stage 2 : Trying to play responsibly & safely he gets bigger down.

Stage 3 : Gets out after consuming loads of deliveries while being set at crease.

Imam needs to fix stage 2 of his batting. That is costing him heavily. He needs to capatilase on the good starts and make sure that 8/10 times he scores in excess of 60 at a SR of 80 plus atleast.

Wrt Yesterday's dismissal Imam knew that quick short ball is his weakness and Ferguson is a genuine FAST bowler and he will target Imam's batting weak areas so he should be ready to counter it.

It was not 151.8 kph delivery which dismissed Imam rather it was a Fast Medium bouncer bowled at 140.3 kph so Imam had enough time to either duck or play a hook shot. There was no need to rise with the ball. Ideally he should have ducked.

I hope he is backed by Captain, Grant and Mickey and he performs well in all the remaining matches. InshaAllah Taala

Imam is still an automatic selection. Nice start yesterday and needed to go on.
Hopefully him and fakhar can get us off to a flier Vs Afghanistan and BD

This guy will always do just enough to stay in the side. He obviously doesn't have the game to be called a very good match winning kinda player
