The stick is too thick. Shouldn't be used to discipline someone.

Barbaric BJP.

A backward barbaric nation.

This is something you'd see in the wild west or middle ages, yet we have shining India doing it todayu.

Of course some RSS fanatic will appear to justify this.

These idiots pelted stones at temple during Navratri celebrations while men & girls playing Garba.

It's a good lesson to teach them how to respect others.

Culprits while eve-teasing ladies, stone pelting and trying to enter Garba venues with fake names had "No Religion" but after they were caught and beaten by Police, suddenly they have a Religion... Lol Alzazeera article.

It didnt take long for an RSS supporter to justify this.

No matter what someone did, do you think in a modern cilivised world POLICE should flog people in public? When will India become civilised. :)

So is this some kind of jungle justice?

I was told that in India the court system is very good and everything is done as per laws.

Generally agree with this post.

Religious festivals and places of worship shoulf be safe from hooliganism, and a stick to the backside will give these idiots some food for thought.

The issue is when this sort of treatment is reserved for one community.

We had a thread( I cant remember which one) where Hindus were disrupting muslim prayers but the police watched on.

The state should either give danda to all or none.

regular people all waiting for their turn to have a crack, u must have a serious inferiority complex to queue to beat up one dude held in place by others.

So is this some kind of jungle justice?

I was told that in India the court system is very good and everything is done as per laws.

So you expect them to go to a magistrate and get a legal notice/warrant to serve them when there are stones being hurled?

If some hooligan Hindus did that no one would support them either and in fact would endorse such a bamboo being given as the one posted above.

I don’t know why people expect the other person to be that blind and not use common sense just because they differ on politics etc.

How about they tie him up and wait for the police to come and handle it?

These are not super heroes who have emotions under check. That’s how these urchins and petty criminals usually get dealt with in our part of the world. As long as they are not being executed a small trashing goes a long way in setting people straight. I am confused if some of you are actually “British” British all the way and have no idea of how some times things get handled in sc or one of those who lived in Pakistan for a while and moved to Britain based on the posts.

Most probably guys like you would have defended those Hindus as well and tried to justify it. There are countless threads here where you and others can be seen singing a different tune when hindus are the culprits. :inti

Which part of the world are you talking about? Few years ago I saw a similar video but that was from Taliban. Are you a supporter of hindu taliban? Let the court and police handle it. Just recently son of a BJP politician in Uttarakhand was involved in a murder of a 19 year old girl. Why didn't Uttarakhand police beat him with sticks like that? :inti

I highly doubt any sane minority would go and attack any Hindus in India. With the rabid racist fascists incharge that'd be like a death sentence

Cops flogging people in public and allowing the public to join in is not a regular thing anywhere in the world. You need to get out of backward India and travel.

lived in Pakistan for nearly ten years, never saw a public flogging with people waiting in line to hit someone, and those I heard about, never saw being vociferously justified like Indians do on this forum.

Indians defending this barbaric act should be ashamed

I mean its one thing crime being committed but for so called educated people defending it!!!

We expect something like this from the taliban

Shining India

Barbaric yes. Either done by the common man or the state. It’s barbaric. Either done by India, Pakistan, indonesdia or saudi. It is a barbaric practice . Not belonging in the 21st century. There is no way Indian posters should be defending this or Pakistani posters defending it in their homelands. I sass plenty of floggings in Pakistan under general Zia . Was disgusting then and is disgusting now.

Cops should be fired. They can't be judge, jury and executioner.

It must mean this is normal in India. I wonder if any Hindus have been publicly flogged for abusing or attacking Muslims?

This is also in Gujrat? No surprise there.

Last i heard the police uphold the law not publicly and ashamedly break it

You cant condone this sort of street justice

Have they even been arrested yet?

?

A group of Muslim men accused of throwing stones at a Navratri event were tied to a pole and flogged.

New Delhi: More than 24 hours after videos from Gujarat purportedly showed the police publicly caning Muslim men accused of disrupting a garba event and throwing stones, authorities say they are yet to verify the facts.

https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/on-...ging-by-cops-what-officials-told-ndtv-3405597

Indian cops are confused , cant verify it or truth is they will brush this under the carpet and send Modi a 4k copy for his self gratification.

These guys attacked a hindu festival. It could have provoked a full fledged riot. The cops brought the situation under control with iron hands.

No one in this thread, is interested in talking about why a hindu festival was attacked?

How do you stop a mob of 200 people who attacked a temple and threw stones at the festival celebration?

Do you have any evidence for this or was it a private email from Modi?

Why not arrest them, take them to the police station and charge them within the bounds of the law? Or are you suggesting the police were following the law of Hindu India?

Finally any Hindus being flogged like this in India?

Oh finally finally, would have lined up to join in with the flogging?

Why not prosecute them and let the law take its full effect. Since when have the Police become judge and jury

This is as bad or bad as the Taliban. At least the Taliban don't deny what they do where as Hindu fundo's are trying to justify it. This is something from the medieval times when people where cheering whilst watching innocent people suffer. It clearly shows that the Indian police are happy to let such things happen while doing nothing. Subhuman people of a subhuman country.

How many tanks, bazookas, AK47 were used by the culprits during this attack? :inti

Only in India 20 crore people are considered minority.

Muslims are 2nd highest majority. The real minority are Jains, Parsis, Buddhists. May be Sikhs.

Muslims, Christians are not minority. They are only minority relatively.

While it was pathetic from the Muslim youth to attack Women doing Garba, it was pathetic from police to publicly hit the culprits on their behinds. They should be arrested and prosecuted. If proven guilty, they deserve some flogging. Until then, they are innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.

I am not sure if Indian law allows flogging. It will surprise me. Normally, most democratic set ups don't have such laws.

What's missing in this story is that there's a mosque opposite the temple. Muslims didn't want the partying near their mosque which is rubbish because no one has the right to tell what others should in a public place as long as it's legal. But unless I see videos of stones being pelted, I'm sceptical about what actually happened.

The truly disturbing part here is that the damn police itself is leading the mob lynching. When they should have arrested the accused and investigate. In other words, follow the damn law. Instead, the audacity to film it and distribute.

This is some slavery level bull****.

A deeply rooted, perverse mentality on full display.

Tie a mob of nearly 200 people?

Why did muslims attack the temple and the festival celebration?

On one hand you demand that Pakistanis not post their opinion/s on any indian matter on a Pakistani forum, on the other here you are asking Pakistanis why indians allegedly behaved the way you claim they did.

Doesn't matter.

There are realities in India whether one disagrees with them or not. People being tied up to poles and beaten by a mob is not uncommon. Have seen it happen to a pickpocket in a city. And during the COVID lockdown, from my window I could see cops flagging down people and giving them a similar caning if they didn't give them a satisfactory explanation for being on the road.

So I'm not shocked by the caning. I'm more interested in whether the Muslim guys actually threw stones or merely objected verbally to the festivities. I'd like to believe that such a huge crowd enjoying the caning can't be that crazy, if the guys were being whacked for no reason other than for being Muslim.

In any case, one thing that was unquestionably despicable, was the Bharat Mata ki jai sloganeering I could hear in the background.

I don't know how can people justify such act. I mean without intervention by police and court it's not even proven whether those guys have actually done anything offensive. This kind of mob mentality only leads to greater lawlessness. Somewhere in distant past Taliban and it's likes across those ME nations started just like this.

I understand the reservations against scores of strangers coming in to Dandiya celebrations as many of them have own agenda, somewhat similar to why stags are not allowed in many pubs across the country. But to tackle it with a baseless vigilant attitude that prompts people to take law in their hands based on their own defined parameters is a dangerous precedence.

It has been reported in every media that these guys attacked a religious festival.

A mob was attacking a hindu temple and police used force to control them. There would be no mollycoddling for such people. They won't be able to cry "Racist" at police and get away here.

So the police went on a rampage and started executing justice as they pleased.

My assumption was that Indian courts and justice system has a great reputation - looks like I was wrong

Sane post covering all parts of the incident.
cricketjoshila who keeps bragging about the legal sysem of India just got caught with pants down as this time his agenda didn't suit the actual matter.

Lol at "The cops brought the situation under control with iron hands". So you are supporting public flogging by the police now?

And if some hindus start pelting stones at a muslim relgious gathering, would you support police in India flogging them also "with iron hands"?

Police did everything that they needed to make sure this didn't escalate into a riot.

Why did a muslim mob of 200 people attack a temple and the religious festival? What was their intention?

When dealt strongly by the police, the likes of AL Jazeera cry victim. This game doesn't run in India anymore. Extremist muslims attacking other religions and then getting covering fire from friendly media and NGOs.

Some Muslim youth throwing stones at Hindu religious festival: can be overlooked

Why are these kind of people coerced into participating in such activities: not an issue

What if these guys arrested and booked under terrorist acts : will revisit that when it happens

A couple of spankings to such miscreants and some how this ties up to Hindutva, Modi, RSS etc etc and the usual tropes.

The cop may have overplayed it here but just fyi the guy getting spanked isn’t exactly a freedom fighter. Not sure how many of you watched the movie RRR on Netflix but this isn’t exactly a copy of that scene.

I would personally be happy if this story doesn’t end up as the kid in the picture gets booked under some terrorist act and become even more extreme. If this changes his life and puts him on the honest right track I would be all up for it.

It’s a questionable source that twists things anyways due to political leanings.

If this had escalated and hindus had retaliated, what would have happened? There would be a thread here on how hindutva extremists attacked muslims.

It's a question of law. Police have no rights to hand out punishments. That's under judiciary. If they think they are troublemakers arrest them.

Just to put in context: Nupur Sharma is still living in fear in her own country. Rehmaani the guy who was provoking her is on every tv channel. That’s the reality of the aftermath after whole debate we had on here.

Don't you have a legal system to take care of this?

Again:

And if some hindus start pelting stones at a muslim relgious gathering, would you support police in India flogging them also "with iron hands"?

I am ashamed of my country. We are emulating the Talibans. I don't think there's a bigger insult to a nation.

They arrested the culprits. Before that they used force to control the situation.

So when a mob attacks, police should go to the court, ask the magistrate and then stop the attack?

This was not only stone pelting. A mob of nearly 200 muslims attacked a temple and the religious festival.

You are running away from questions as usual.

Anyways, don't know what World you are living in. Of course police have to use force to arrest any culprits who are not listning to them, but it's a big difference between arresting people (even with force) and start flogging them in public one by one.

And the guys who are being flogged, do you see them pelting stones at time of being beaten in the video?

They arrested the culprits. Before that they used force to control the situation.

Using force to control the situation means you use force to an already rioting people. It doesn't mean you use force when the situation is already under control. It is clear from the video that the police already apprehended the culprits . There was no need to use force there.

Just to put in context: Nupur Sharma is still living in fear in her own country. Rehmaani the guy who was provoking her is on every tv channel. That’s the reality of the aftermath after whole debate we had on here.

You see, extremists muslim organization have a very old trick. Wherever they are in minority, they will take the cover of racism, multiculturalism, secularism etc to carry their extremist agenda. Whenever law enforcement will come after them they will take this cover.

The culprits were muslims who attacked a temple, but with the help of pliable media they are trying to spin it on the police.

Not one person on this thread has questioned and condemned the attack on the temple. They have questioned why police used force, they have questioned if muslims attacked the temple and garba festival.

This is how it works.

Why would 200 people attack a temple? It doesn't seem believable. They gain nothing from attacking a temple. Any video footage of this?

You are focusing on the "temple attack" without verifying the full story.

Also, which Muslim organization is extreme according to you?

According to you there were approximately 20o0 culprits . In the video we see three men being flogged..so there were 197 possibly rioting people and the police could afford to spare some force to do the flogging. Does this version seem believable to you ?

The story is in every media outlet. The OP also says that they attacked a festival.

What did they gain by attacking the WTC towers? But they did attack it.

There are many. A number of them are banned.

I think a lot of that has to do with the foreign reaction to her statements.

Sadly for this woman it makes sense for her to be cast to the shadows - it will make some Muslims happy and the right wing hindu government can hold hands and smile with their Arab friends.

You've went from temples to world trade centre very swiftly.

We all know what kind of credibility Indian media has. They tend to spice up things.

This is what I said in a previous post. I don't know why saying it is so offensive, when you get educated posters justifying flogging then what is wrong in calling it what it is?

TBH I wouldn't mind if our police rounded up drunken football fans occasionally and hit them on the backside.

The main issue isn't the beating. Its perfectly normal in the 3rd world and is a reasonably efficient way to bring in order and maintain fear of the law.

The issue is that the "law" is very easily circumvented for Muslim miscreants and not for Hindu miscreants.

For every Hindu crime we have discussed on PP Joshilla usual line is its went to court, let the judiciary decide etc.

The double standards is shocking.

All backsides should be equal.

Your police doesn't do that to the drunken football fans is one of the main signs of your country being a first world civilization and our country being a third one. Giving the chance of self-defence to the defendants is one of the basic criterions of a civilized country.

2nd amendment type law in a country like India is a recipe for disaster.

Rather I would say arm the police with better equipment. When people are throwing stones or getting sophisticated equipment from questionable sources there is only so much the police can do.

While police in India get enough flak deservingly so they also aren’t appreciated enough for what they are up against at times.

NDTV - Opinion piece:

==

Today, October 5, there will be numerous events to declare the triumph of good over evil in Dussehra celebrations with the burning of the effigy of Ravana. Elsewhere, there will be elaborate preparations for the immersion of the clay images of Goddess Durga after celebrating her victory over the demon king Mahishasura. These festivities traditionally involve crores of Indians within and outside the boundaries of India. The beautifully-decorated puja pandals are visited by people across communities, just as the audiences at the performances of the Ram Leela are inclusive of people across communities. This is how it has been in the past.

But will it remain so? Will we soon have signboards outside the pandals that state "Hindus only", much like the signs in British India that forbade the entry of Indians into many public places? If a pandal in Kolkata can actually portray the demon king killed by the Goddess in the form of Gandhi-ji, is the idea of "Hindus Only" signboards so outlandish? The Vishwa Hindu Parishad spokesperson Chandrachud Goswami, responsible for the abomination, was not shy or defensive. He said, "Gandhi does not deserve respect. We want to send a clear message that we want a Gandhi-mukt Bharata Varsh."

India needs to ask itself some hard questions - in our own times, in our own society, is evil triumphing over the good? Perhaps not. The people of India, the working poor, the workers, the kisans, have historically, more often than not, chosen the path of acting for what is right, fighting back the forces that want to enslave us, to divide us, to perpetuate injustice. But today, it is not an ordinary fight. Every day brings new examples of why the question is relevant. Look at the recent developments over the "garba" celebrations.

The beating of Muslim men at or even around the vicinity of "garba pandals" by private armies of the Hindutva brigade are akin to lighting bonfires of the Constitution. The attacks constitute a level of crude religious profiling that is quite unprecedented. It is a shameful demonizing of a whole community as potential trouble-makers, as harassers of women, as 'love jihadists'. In all these attacks, the police have admitted that there have been no complaints of harassment by any women attending the garba events. The charge against Muslim men as "luring women" is insulting to Hindu women, too, who must be considered brainless if they can be so easily "lured".

Such attacks are taking place in centres in BJP-ruled Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Instead of arresting the attackers led by the Bajrang Dal and, in some cases, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the police have arrested the victims. Since there is no evidence of any crime against those arrested, the police have used Section 151, an open-ended clause, which gives police the right to arrest without any evidence or proof of crime committed but to "prevent the commission of cognizable offences". It reads "(1) A police officer knowing of a design to commit any cognizable offence may arrest, without orders from a Magistrate and without a warrant, the person so designing, if it appears to such officer that the commission of the offence cannot be otherwise prevented. "The Hindutva brigade have made known their intention to use the present religious festivities to target Muslims, they are the people 'so designing'." But not a single one of them, not even those easily identifiable in the videos shown on national television, have been booked by the police. It is known that sections of the police force have been communalised. But the blatant bias in their actions in these cases is because of the public support to the Hindutva gangs by the governments of both Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

The leader of the Bajrang Dal in Indore, Tannu Sharma, stated that Muslims would not be allowed into garba pandals. He was quoted as saying "Pehle rokenge, pair tokenge, phir thokenge" (we will stop them, then threaten them, then beat them). Pragya Thakur, Member of Parliament and accused in the Malegaon bombing case, stated, "Muslims should not be allowed into garba pandals", and further, "shops owned by Muslims near the pandals should be shut down". The Minister of Culture, Usha Thakur, echoing the Bajrang Dal, stated that "Garba pandals are becoming the medium for love jihad". This was followed by the statement of the State's Home Minister Narottam Mishra that "identity cards would be required to enter pandals". In compliance with his statement, orders making ID cards mandatory were issued by district administrations in Ujjain, Bhopal, Indore, Narmadapuram and Khandwa. So, what started with the Bajrang Dal ended with the official approval of the government. Let's not fool ourselves that these are "fringe elements".

Madhya Pradesh has a high crime rate in sexual assaults against women. If there are goons, as there often are, at such public events where large numbers of young women may be present, the police have to ensure their arrest and the protection of the women. Identity cards do not show records of criminal history - they only give the name and address of the person concerned. The order for identity cards was not to protect women, but only to humiliate members of the minority community. Many of the pandals are on public thoroughfares, so at any given time, there may be members of the Muslim community passing by. They too were reportedly subjected to harassment and physical attacks. In Indore alone, 14 members of the Muslim community were arrested.

In Gujarat, the Hindutva brigade issued orders to organizers of garba pandals assuming the authority of the government. Hitendrasinh Rajput, the spokesperson of the Bajrang Dal and the VHP, declared that "Bajrang Dal in advance has instructed all organizers to ensure that no security person is hired belonging to the Muslim community as they have malafide intentions of luring Hindu girls. If it is done, then such clashes will happen." This was his justification after his gangs attacked Muslim security guards at a garba function in Surat. The Bajrang Dal announced that its men would be 'checking' to ensure that there are no Muslims at the pandals. If the Hindutva brigade can act with such impunity, it hardly needs a political scientist's analysis to point out that this is a clear example of state support for wholly illegal actions.

All these decades, "garba" celebrations like those associated with other religious festivals have been celebrated by members of all communities. But after the advent of the BJP government in 2014, the trend has increased of religious festivities becoming occasions to create and deepen fault lines between communities. In Gujarat, where the garba tradition originates, Muslim musicians have long been associated with the festivities. In 2015, there were incidents in Ahmedabad of Muslims being excluded from garba celebrations. At the time, it was not "love jihad" but "beef eaters" who were to be kept out of the pandals. Achyut Yagnik, a well-recognized author and analyst of Gujarat society in an interview (Economic Times, Oct 10, 2015) had said "The Muslim 'Mir' or 'Langa' community was traditionally associated with music in Gujarat and their members participated and played music in Hindu temples and festivals. In recent times, Mir singers, male and female, have become very popular and are invited to sing during Navaratri in various towns and cities. " He criticized the trend of keeping Muslims out of the celebrations.

There has been growing communal friction surrounding festive events in recent years.

Since 2015, the situation has worsened with attacks taking different forms. With the commercialization of the festivities, huge garba events inviting Bollywood stars are organised by professionals, many of them Muslim event organizers. They are not being allowed to organise such events. The events require security arrangements. Some of the guards are Muslim workers earning an honest living. This too is stopped. Shops to be shut down because they are owned by Muslims, workers to be prevented from going to work because they are Muslim, event organizers prohibited from providing professional services because they are Muslim - this is a direct attack on livelihood.

A few months ago, at the time of Ram Navami, we saw a concerted plan being put into action when aggressive processions of slogan-shouting members led by the same organisations - the Bajrang Dal and the VHP - deliberately provoked clashes outside mosques at a time when the Muslim community were observing ramzan. Hundreds of Muslims were arrested and many are still in jail. Bulldozers were used to raze Muslim-owned properties to the ground while the provocateurs got away scot-free through government patronage. Today, navratri or puja celebrations are sought to be used to fulfil the same aim of demonization of a community, division of society and destruction of pluralist cultures.

Symbolic actions of the ritual burning of effigies representing evil will have more meaning when we have the will and determination to identify, recognize and fight back the forces of darkness in our midst.

Whatever be the intention of the Muslim mob, it is not for the police to execute Taliban style punishment in the middle of the street. Arrest them and take them to court. Police cannot act like vigilante groups.

Investigation has to be done as to who assembled the Muslim mob. This was a clearly planned attack and police should invest in finding out the real culprit. A moulvi or a politician is clearly involved.

Your police doesn't do that to the drunken football fans is one of the main signs of your country being a first world civilization and our country being a third one. Giving the chance of self-defence to the defendants is one of the basic criterions of a civilized country.

Exactly. The reason the police are resorting to ad hoc beatings is the same as the the reason these people resort to mob agitation in the first place. They are basically third world yokels living the same culture as the much derided Taliban. At least the Taliban don't pretend to be anything else.

Absolutely disgusting videos. It's an insult to Indians everywhere. There is no way to defend this.

Use of force is needed in India to disperse violent crowds and make sure they don't reassemble.

This had the potential to escalate into a full fledged riot like it did during ram navami festival in Delhi.
