Ind have earnt the right to play as they want. We should have beaten the terrible Windies team and we wouldn't be relying on others to do us favours.
 
Why India deliberately not performing 100% against an opponent for the strategic reason of not letting another team proceed, is considered a bad thing?

Exactly. Even if India did decide to throw the game ( which I highly doubt) they can do as they like as they have already qualified. Getting any sort of a score against the Windies would have given Pakistan a great chance of winning, as it is, they lost that game within the first 10 overs. No need to look anywhere else for blame.
 
So as per Basit Ali, India is deliberately loosing to England as otherwise they should win against them easily. However, if India wins against England in semi or final then same Basil Ali will say match was fixed.

Basit is the shaki type and but I would be surprised if Ind have the same motivation as if they would do if they hadn't qualified. Quite simply they can do what they please because we should be never in situation where we need others especially Ind.

The moment your team qualifying depends on results of games going a certain way. Know that they are on the edge of the Knockout line.

So many years of watching Indian cricket, especially batting, this is not how we address chases/big totals.

I don’t even feel I’m seeing India playing.

They don't seem be giving too much effort, but I won't say they want to lose either.
 
I think next match india need to play jadeja as the opener. Any way rahul is doing nothing to claim his spot.

I don't blame India because they don't owe Pakistan anything but we have to call a spade a spade.
 
Man was spot on just as he was when he blew the whistle on holy cows of Pakistan cricket Wasim Akram and Salim Malik for match fixing...

It was highly disgraceful for Pakistanis to be hating on him then and now for he didn't belong to their city/province...

Not blaming India...ICC should be blamed for allowing the format in place that leads to these fixed matches...the previous WC formats with smaller groups and then knockouts mitigated against it.

Football learnt it lesson in 1982, cricket governance is just too wishy washy and inequitable that is was bound to happen.
 
India didn't take that keen interest to win the game.But that wasn't deliberate , but to keep up their own interests for which they can't be blamed at all. Having said that the absence of Dhawan is affecting this team big time.
 
If India really had to lose intentionally, wouldn't Dhoni & Jadhav just throw away their wickets? Not going for the kill made them look bad. Suicidal shots would've been easier & plausible option.

India didn't lose deliberately today but they stopped trying to win in the final overs or didn't care. I guess Basit was partly right.

No, Basit Ali was wrong. England played exceptionally well today. Too bad the outcome was not to teh liking of Pakistan fans.

Stop complaining and have your own team perform to win rather than relying on the outcome of other matches for the knockout stage

Dhoni's cricket career has been on life support for a long time. Most Indian fans pray that he leaves for good from all forms of the game. Today's match just exposed that this INdian team is really not as good as it seems on paper. Nothing more to this match than that.

While I am an India fan and very heartbroken by this loss, I have reluctantly come to accept that IND just does not belong in the top league, after todays match. ENG totally outplayed us today. Just look at the unbelievable fielding by ENG players today.

Time for India to go back to the drawing board and discard a lot of dead wood from this team.

As a south Asian it breaks my heart that the chances of any south Asian team winning this cup has come down drastically. Pakistan's almost out of the world cup. India's shortcomings very badly exposed.

What is a south Asian cricket fan to do?

If root had not dropped a sitter off Sharma the loss would have been even greater. Accept that England outplayed India. England will also beat New Zealand and qualify.

Dhoni seemed to be making a point. Maybe to the Indian fans that they didn’t want to do Pak any favors.
Very disappointing.

Don't be so heartbroken, when it is India, England or Australia playing against each other the toss is almost decisive.

You are preaching to a partisan crowd who would have it their own way only. For them any way that Pakistan looses directly or indirectly is a conspiracy
 
We did the same thing with India on Champion Trophy 2009. Make sense if India does the same thing allegedly. With red form of Pakistan and barat-mata craze going on, it is short cut to the glory without glory. :jimmy

Looks like Bangladesh are the only team that can catch nz on nrr
 
The saddest part was that fans starting to leave the stadium well before the last over. I mean Dhoni (the star) was possibly batting for the last time at Edgbaston, the fans were booing.

In 2007 both India and Pakistan were knocked out in Group stage and ICC lost millions.

Of course, you dont care about that point.

You dont have to pay the millions in losses.

This format is great.

Each team creates its own destiny.

If it leaves things to other teams for their destiny, then that team does not deserve to qualify.

Simple.
 
I don't understand how a strong team like India can't drop a batsman who can singlehandedly lose them out on a big game in a crucial situation?

They were both knocked out and deserved to because they both played badly and lost to minnows, the competition was fair and that's the first and only requirement of any tournament, league and competition...

If "millions" take precedence than all the matches should be arranged so as to guarantee WWE style format and only the 4 top revenue generators qualify for Semis each and every time...and that's what international cricket has essentially descended to, so not surprised in the least...

Basit only stated the obvious, his haters were peeved as to how dare he call a spade and spade and are no even more peeved that his prediction came out to be true and it was all plain and simple to see Indian batters leaving balls, playing dots, deliberating mistiming the shots, and English bowlers bowling off short runups with reduced speeds..

He will play on this ground twice more if Aussies beat the saffers. The game vs BD and the 2nd SF. Indian fans leaving was more to do with getting out ahead of the traffic. People are dumb if they think they thought Dhoni was gonna score 70 runs in 30 balls. As some of the posters already said, it could have been a team decision to protect the NRR. India has virtually booked a SF spot with this close loss.

Yes, I looked at MSD's innings that's whay I said England bowled well and to a plan. It was #1 & #2 ranked teams playing and anyone of them could have won. Depends who was able to execute it better.

Just wishful thinking wont get your team anywhere.

In case you missed, most of the Pakistan fans didn't even have the desire to see the Pakistan matches, in person after the thrashing it received from the Windies. A lot of those fans actually pedaled their game tickets knowing that the Pakistan team won't make it too far.
Now that it has won a couple of games, all of a sudden a lot of Pakistan fans now want their team to make it to the SF at the back of other countries.
Did you forget about the Pakistan fans who were so distraught that were literally in tears after their teams performance.
Nothing can be sadder than that.

India will lose to england to help knock out pakistan, a team they have a superior record against, and allow england to go through which has been a tough tough opponent. :D

India wins - IPL contract on the line for opponents.

India loses - They are afraid of pakistan. :'D

LOL why do Pakistan team need to come to a point when they have to depend on other's team win/loss in order to qualify further? On top of that rather than depending on luck why blame the other team of conspiracy?

Basit Ali is a smart chap - If India loses to Bang & SL he will claim he sensed it well in advance. If India wins, he will still take the credit, will say India came under tremendous pressure due to his comment and won the matches just to prove him wrong.

Are you crazy or what? Every single Pak match has had a sea of green supporters except for the India match where tickets were unfavorably allocated by ICC. Against England, SA, NZ and Afg the stadiums had overwhelming majority of Pak fans. Running mouth like that might get some traction for you on your garbage Indian forums not here.
 
ICC World Cup 2019: Vijay Shankar ruled out, Mayank Agarwal set to join India squad

Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has slammed former Pakistan international Basit Ali for his comments regarding India deliberately losing in the World Cup 2019 to ensure their neighbour's ouster from the tournament. Earlier, Ali had claimed that India will "never want Pakistan" to make it to the semi-finals of the ongoing World Cup and that's why the Men in Blue might perform badly and intentionally lose their matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

When asked about his response to Ali's comments, Harbhajan told India Today that it was a 'stupid' remark.

"What makes him say that? Is he stupid? I don't know what is he smoking, seriously! He's got to be on a different planet in order for him to talk ill like this. That's probably the way they have played their cricket and that's how they see the game," replied Harbhajan.

Basit Ali had also said that New Zealand had lost their last league match against Pakistan during the 1992 World Cup as they wanted to play the semi-final in their own backyard. Harbhajan was not amused after hearing this and said that such claims are baseless and Ali should be 'fixed' by then captain and now Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

"I think Imran bhai should fix him now. I think he needs to be fixed because you can't put your team down like this by saying that '92 was fixed and now 2019 is fixed as well," said Harbhajan.

Do you know how to read and understand? I clearly mentioned how a strong team like India can't drop a player like him, Pakistan isn't a top tier team and apart from 3-4 players, all of them are similar to each other in terms of performance.

He is a very good analyst but his victim-mentality and paranoia with respect to India gets the better off him.
 
With due respect, Basit Ali has a great deal of admiration for Rohit Sharma and sincerely believes he should be India’s national Captain versus Virat Kholi.
 
Basit Ali is too emotional and hot headed but he reads the game well if you listen deeply to his analysis
 
Basit looks a lot worse than he actually is, and the main credit for this goes to Tanvir.

I mean how can anyone sound logical when you are partnering with Tanvir.
 
He was not only one to predict this , many ( including myself ) did the same , that does not make Basit a genius. Most of his statements do not make much sense.
 
I also predicted NZ beating India. However, I expected Aus vs NZ final.

Basit was wrong. India or should I say Dhoni deliberately lost to England no doubt about it whatsoever. This man who hits sixes for fun with his eyes closed was playing defensive shots in the last five overs or something. This is why it was brilliant to see him crying when walking off the field against New Zealand, he deserved that. It was divine justice that a cheat like him's last match in the WC end in a way that he is bought to tears. I have lost complete respect for this cheat now.
