"It was a very important innings for me and will really boost me for the future"

"when I played that shot which led to the dropped catch, I said oooh, but Allah helped us today"

"I cannot praise Mohammad Amir enough today. He batted really well"

"the turning point of this match were the spells by Junaid Khan and Mohammad Amir"

"coming into this tournament nobody gave us a chance but look we've won 2 matches & are in the semi-finals"

"we're thinking about the SF, not looking ahead"

"credit to the team management for boosting the players after india match and then the bowlers for their performance"

"our start was good but we lost momentum - we lost a lot of soft wickets and that is an area of concern, we will talk about it"

"I hope we will take confidence from this match and perform well in the SF"

"our team is in a difficult time and a lot of people aren't supporting us, we get a lot of criticism when we lose so these two wins are very important for us"

"Azhar Mahmood deserves a lot of credit for the pacers and the bowlers are also bowling according to the plans and in the right areas"

"we have an excellent batting lineup, I have confidence in the batsmen and I have full faith that in the SF against England we will put up a superb performance"

"considering the start we got, we should have won the match comfortably but still a win is a win, but we will try to ensure that we don't let it get to the late order in such situations next time"

"we will see the pitch and situation for the England match and then decide the team on the day, we haven't made any decisions yet"

simple ,jolly and passionate guy
he cant express much in english but still better than inzi . hope he learns it quickly

He is a fighter and this knock proves that again.

Wins like this in KO tournaments are special.

England wr coming.

a great leader and is doing what Azhar Ali could never do as a captain, making Pakistan fight...

He has shown more guts as a captain than Misbah in ODIs, mainly because Misbah can't bat the way Sarf can, which makes a huge boost to the batting side...

Misbah could never play this kind of knock in a big tournament... he's better at getting the team to a par score than chasing a total down (in which Misbah usually choked or ended up making himself look bad)

I feel AAMIR should have been MOM but doesn't matter now... It was a composed innings.... and took 2 wkts as well

Well done Saffy... just highlights why he should play at 3 or 4... dont want him to be another MISBAH... to do the damage control after collapses...

Well done mate. Now do something about the england game .

Why the hell u people keep dragging Misbah everywhere and everytime into everything.... The man has retired now and let him be in peace... and man he retired from ODI'S damn 2 years ago

I am jjust comparing past captains no need to get your knickers in a twist

Misbah deserves a lot of criticism he bought in tuk tuk, he then after leaving left Azhar ali as captain to further his sick tuk tuking legacy

As we know we cannot sarfaraz was good without ex captains

The one thing that worries me is that he may now stay at 6 in the long term, would be big mistake. Right now he should bat at 4. Down the track maybe 5, as I feel Harris can be better 4.

At 6 you need somebody with more brute power. Not many in Pakistan but this is where I feel this where we need to experiment with Talat. he has the power plus he is a good rotator of strike.

Still don't like him as captain. Tried to bottle it many times today, but thankfully for him, the Sri Lankan fielders turned out to be even bigger bottlers and kept him in.

agreed.. misbah would have choked himself for sure made an inns of 55 (95) and still would have lost by a 20 run margin... the difference i see here is Sarfraz put away bad balls and hit boundaries when it is in offer and there was never a moment he choked the chase by running out of balls...sarfraz got the luck of a dropped catch but even then amir and hasan would have managed

You are 100 % correct! Bless you brother ! You deserve credit for speaking the truth. It is something most are afraid to do. What you said takes courage. Inshallah may it continue

Because we must learn from our mistakes and not brush them under the carpet. There must be some kind of accountability. The ones who have lead us to the bottom of the ranking must be held accountable and not glorified or saved from constructive criticism

Honestly Aamir batted better , was more composed of the two .
Sarfaraz gifted the match few times to SL , just that the lankans where even more generous .

Hafeez should be replaced with Haris Sohail. Malik can be our sixth bowler. Shadab comes in for Fahim Ashraf.

Bro, tell me one thing, why do you keep comparing every player with other players. Talking about Junaid Khan you allway bring in Riaz and here you bring in Misbah and Azhar comparing to Sarfraz?

So true, so many near missed run-outs, catches etc from Sarfaraz. Considering the RR and that Lankans used up their premier bowlers by the 40th, it was very poor match awareness from Sarfaraz. All he had to do was hang in there and get couple of singles every over, hit the loose balls to the boundary.

Agreed , but still u cant tuk tuk the premier bowlers till 40th over and that would be a miscalculation..

if the captain or the batsmen playing at the crease calculated to see through tough bowlers and then unleash power hitting from the 40th over then that would bring a score of 60 runs needed of 50 balls or 75 needed of last 10 overs with 3 wickets in hand... eventually will be bundled out in a 20 run margin, which was the MISBAH' case..

I'm a big fan of Misbah, but there is no doubt that his way of playing ODI cricket was old fashioned, and he really choked in big chases, whereas Sarfraz purely with a superior batting technique has holed out Pakisatn from what looked like a certain defeat

Maybe because we have made manageable chases very difficult for our own selves by shooting on our foot a few times...

If you watch the Pak vs WI bilateral series of 2013, you will see plenty of 230-40 run chases going down to the last over... with Misbah at the helm of the chase..

In the PBP thread I called him a mental midget.

I apologise, he played a great inning.

Just hope some of the other batsman wake up.

‘Will have to play positive cricket against England’ — Sarfraz

Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, who forged a record-breaking stand of 75 with Mohammad Amir to take his team to the semi-finals, has made it clear that his team will try to adopt positive, aggressive approach against England and repeat their last year’s Cardiff victory — their only win in a recent 4-1 drubbing in England — where they chased 303.

"We chased down 300-plus runs and that is a good memory,” he said. “We have to play positive cricket as England have been playing positive cricket in the last two years. Obviously we have to play hard and we will try to replicate our last year performance to win them again in Cardiff. If you’re playing a world class team you play more positive cricket. So will definitely do that against England.”

If u hav to move forward u gonna forget the past....
English people never talk abt damages done by Cooky or abt his defensive mindset.....
just move forward....

You guys mostly do the opposite of what you say..

Which team do u have to play negative cricket against Sarf? :))

The way they are reminding us of that 300 run chase at cardiff, it makes it pretty much clear what they'll do if they win the toss.

As opposed to the negative cricket which is the trick to beat other teams

What does positive cricket even mean

EVERY captain we have ever had wants to play positive, aggressive cricket... Just learn a few words and just throw them around.

I Disagree with you on a fundamental level. You have to learn from your mistakes otherwise you are doomed to repeat them. Cook did receive criticism, in fact he was treated quite harshly. He was dropped unceremoniously before the world cup and was indeed upset about it.

After the failure in the World Cup, England completely changed their approach and philosophy in ODI’s. The difference between their previous approach and the one they implemented is night and day. Andrew Strauss became the Director of Cricket for the ECB and he openly criticized their previous philosophy and approach. Among other things, he mentioned that ODI cricket should not be treated as an afterthought, but should be taken seriously. He and other former cricketers admitted that at times ODI selection for ENG was seen as a reward for good performances in test cricket. He mentioned that this needed to change and that ODI selection should be specialized. The ECB did a lot of analysis and soul searching. They did not just "forget (about) the past".

We need to do the same if we wish to improve. Still to this day we think that if player is good in tests it means that he is good in all formats or vice versa. That is just of several issues that we have.
Let us be honest, one of the main reasons that some people do not wish look at the past and would therefor prefer to forget about it, is because of a certain person who has been glorified to no end, by some people, as a great and almost saintly figure. However, for betterment of Pak cricket we must speak the truth and not be beholden myths. Even if a person is nice it does not mean that we cannot call them out on their mistakes in respectfully and constructive manner.
